Bournemouth vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Dreadful day. Sarr and Mitchell did well when they came on, especially Sarr. Wharton gave some control to the midfield. The rest of them though…

Riad and Devenny comically bad on the left side. Lerma continues his regression and Lacroix and Hendo had bad days. jSL getting lots of stick but he had zero to feed off first half. I’ve previously defended Johnson and Pino but I cant on that showing. They both look so lost. Zero physical presence speed of thought or movement and I would genuinely back myself to deliver a better free kick

Crazy how clubs like Bournemouth, Brighton and Brentford are so much better off the pitch than us.
Or even on it. You can add Fulham to that list. Meanwhile we chase the Fool's gold of the Third tier European competition. Yes, we need Villa to beat Spurs tonight. I can't see where any more points come from this season. One against Everton maybe?

What was the point of this afternoon's exercise? Starting without Richards, Mitchell, Sarr, Mateta, Wharton. This was Bournemouth, for heaven's sake, not Wolves.

Contribution to the team wise they are both woeful footballers.
Not really ,Devenny is cover for a number of positions and does a decent enough job when required . He had a poor first half on the left with Riad and Johnson but looked OK second half with Wharton and Sarr .

We all know Johnson is a good player though he is obviously suffering from poor form and a lack of confidence

They are a long way from being woeful

As much as I want us to win the Conference League, these Thursday night games are killing us, we don't have the squad for it. The players must have been knackered, traveling to Poland on Tuesday, travelling back on Friday, I imagine they haven't been to the training ground since Monday? Not the best preparation for a side the likes of Bournemouth.

They are all teams that have won nothing of significance ever, along with Fulham. We are playing twice a week and they aren't due to not being in Europe, so are fresh for every Premier game. We have been victims of our own success and at the end of the season, its taking it's toll. We seem to be able to raise our game for the big games, but not when we have 5 changes against the inform team in the Premier.

Burnley game was less than 3 months ago, hence he has 4 goals in 3 months, I’ll say it again, keep up 😉
BroMon, I get it why you prefer saying JSL has scored 4 goals in 2 months, 3 weeks and 5 days....instead of 3 months like the rest of us...but the reason why we use 3 months is 'cos our Burnley game wouldve been 12 weeks ago (3 months ago in old money) in less than 48 hrs from now.

Which is regardless anyway as we do not play again in the Prem until May 10th so therefore impossible for him to improve his poor return....even if you include the Simpsons Cup game on Thursday, it would still be 3 months, bro.

Obvs players are judged by goals in the Prem these days, not a 3rd rate European Rosette designed for the smaller European teams who have one good season and has some teams competing in the knock-out stages with grounds and support smaller than all 24 clubs playing in the National League. Although I appreciate we dont do too well against non-league clubs do we.

Actually, remember the Arsenal forward who scored 10 or so goals during their 2021 Europa League run but famously didnt score once in the Prem that season....I think he has since drifted off into the european wilderness.

Cannot question the support you have of our players...but when it comes to dates....

keep up.

Finally some sense spoken.

It was always a defeat.

We will not be caught in the league

We may not get another point

But if we win the conference no-one will give a toss about our league position in a few years but everyone will remember us winning a European trophy for ever.

That is a big if, i am not confident this tie is over, they are class, an early goal, and it will be panic stations, if we get to the final it will be a very, very good performance.

This season has been overall really poor, it seems we have gone backwards in terms of our EPL progression with teams like Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth all showing better development than ourselves. The transfer dealings have been very poor and we have a very weak and unblanced squad of player some of who would struggle in the championship to hold down a first team spot. We lack leadership from the top down and this summer we are losing the team Manager and possible more of our key players. We also have a very poor understanding of the transfer market and in recent times have wasted shed loads of cash on very poor decision making and just do not seem to be able to deal in the transfer market like other clubs around us. As a consequence this has left us in a very vulnerable position and even if we do survive this year, then next year may well the season where our luck runs out.

See how well they get on playing Thursday then Sunday then Thursday , Bournemouth could be champions lge next season , see how there squads get on

Well played Bournemouth. Can we have your manager please? Whatever happens at Villa tonight, the Arses will beat Wet Spam next week and we will be safe. Next season we will play a different system and hopefully play to JSL’s strengths more with a different midfield. Johnson needs to get a grip or be sold in the summer.
If we win the Conference League we will need to have a deeper squad to compete in The Europa League and survive in the PL.

Precisely

Kinda expected this performance, tho, not as bad. I understand the rotation, but it's put us in a position where we are not safe, hoping to god spuds lose tonight, then we're safe. Don't think anyone really came out of this match well. Everything seemed 'disjointed', much better in 2nd half, let's hope this idea works on Thursday, we ain't been strong at SP for a while. Worried.

Great point, which was just echoed by the ex pro's on Sky Sports. Saying that if we won the conference cup, at what cost will it come next year knowing how much we have struggled this season playing in a far less demanding tournament where we have been fortunate enough to be able to rotate heaps because of the low quality opposition.

There won't be any more £50m signings in the summer and when JP leaves, for a lot less, that no question leaves us lighter up top with Sarr, JSL, Johnson and Eddie. God help us whenever the former has one of his off days...or worse, gets injured.

JSL, Eddie and BJ leading the line? I'll pass thanks.
