Bilal El Khannouss

Aside from the fact that they played a qualifier and lost… which means they didn’t qualify for the champions league, you’d hope the phrase ‘champions league player’ wouldn’t require this level of definition.

No, not every player in the competition would be described as such. Players for clubs who qualify almost every year and regularly reach the latter stages would be.
Good job your here to put me right Sherlock, it wasn’t a serious comment, hence the laughing emoji

Yeah, Bayern Munich are gutted they missed out on Sarr and got Olise instead. 20 goals, 15 assists, best dribbler in the Bundesliga. One of the stars of the season in Germany.

We did an incredible job to replace him with Sarr
I get the sarcasm, very droll, but my point is that you don’t need a £100m player to fill the void left by your stars, you just need the right player. Sarr has turned out to be an inspired choice, showing a clinical finishing touch that many of our forwards have lacked in the past and all for a reasonable fee. We need to find someone to replace Eze who will do the same thing.

Is this BEK chap the right one, I’m not sure.

i have to say our transfer activity this summer has been very poor. Surely we must have spoken to Eze and known that if a decent offer came in he wanted to go.
I appreciate to had limited funds but we must have had a few options lined up.

The lad from Leicester is still very young and didn't set the Prem alight last season (no surprise in a poor Leicester team). He also had a release clause that we could have activated - supposedly Leicester now want more than that figure. £30m seems too high IMHO.

We have also bid for a FC Brugge player on the week of their Champions League play off game - great timing Palace.

Bournemouth replaced their CB within days of him leaving for PSG and did similar with the LB position. So it can be done.

An interesting development is Jonathan Rowe, now at Marseille. He hasn't been great in France but seems a very similar player to Eze and can play on the left but is predominantly right footed.

We already needed an extra forward player this pre season so with the Eze situation we now need 2. The same could be said at CB if MG leaves.

Get Rowe in and maybe the lad from Wolves on loan would probably be ok. Mateta looked knackered 2nd half on Sunday so we need someone who can play up top for 20 minutes.

Of course it wasn't 🤣
I don't think one needs to stoop as low as Lincoln Red Imps to find teams without a squad full of 'Champions League level' players. I have already given you one example.

Anyway, Connor Gallagher would not suit our style.

For Atletico he has played all over the midfield and managed 3 goals last season. He would be too expensive for what he offers.
Khannouss by contrast can dribble, has good awareness and passing ability. Exactly what we need.

Conor Gallagher would absolutely suit our style, but enough of that anyway - I don't want anymore comments from weirdos policing threads while making no contributions of their own.

Khannouss is certainly a very different player to Gallagher and much more similar to Eze in playing style - I think he's a great fit for our model and would make a good addition to the squad. I would worry about him carrying the full 'Eze' attacking burden on his own - I don't think he's at that level yet and would expect a fair amount of inconsistency in his game, which seems to be the verdict of a lot of Leicester fans.

A good signing, but alone not enough to replace Eze.

The way Khannouss drops deeper to collect the ball and has a good eye for a pass would complement Sarr well (in the way Eze does). He just a lot more raw, so a lot more mistakes will be made which the team will have to compensate for. But we managed to give Eze and Olise this room for development so hopefully we can give it to whoever fills Eze's void (hopefully a burden shared by a couple of players).

It seems Leicester are playing hard ball, which they have every right to do. But I hope we don't pay anywhere over 25m +add ons. The risk would be too high and also the expectations could be damaging.

Agree this one is interesting - he had a dressing room fight with Rabiot apparently and now both are being moved on from Marseille.

He was electric at Norwich a couple of seasons back and has performed well for the England U21s.

Very Palace-like in style - a young, tricky winger who is good in 1v1s and seems to have a decent eye for goal. Reminds me of someone like Ademola Lookman.

Given the last-minute nature of his availability, I'd be approaching Marseille re a loan with an option to buy - he's not wanted there so we cover his wages for the year, have a look at him in the Prem, and decide if there's enough there to buy. Would also mean minimal expenditure in the short term.

I agree with that, but who would?
Eze is a very singular talent who I would do pretty much anything to keep if I were Parish.

How hard he has tried, we won't know.

It’s interesting that his release clause has expired and they now want more. Where as Eze’s release clause has expired and we seem to be prepared to accept less !

I've read Bayern were so desperate to sign him that they also agreed to him having a release clause in his contract. Another injury free season and I think he'll have his choice of the supposed top teams in the world Madrid, Barca, PSG, Liverpool etc

Sarr has been a terrific purchase and although a completely different type of player has shown how his attributes perfectly match Glasners style.
Hopefully a nice sell on clause included in the deal for us

The problem, of course, is that the thing that'd probably persuade him to stay is for Parish to go all out with intent to improve the squad and break into the top 6 with a sustained European challenge. not just an extra 100k a week.

His release clause was 20m ish about a week ago now looking like we are getting him for 32m ish according to sky sports, well done SP excellent use of funds 👍
This story does not stack up.

If El Khannouss was a prime target we’d surely have snapped him up when the release clause price was available at considerably less than the current quoted price.

Furthermore, it’s said that our real target was Guessand and that we backed away when the fee hit £30million , before Villa were really on the scene.
I just can’t believe that it’s all as desperate as it sounds.

Make it make sense!

Doesn't seem worth anywhere near 32 mil. Nor will I imagine he ever will be. We could bid that on Gallagher with a couple of add ons and get someone who is good enough immediately.
