Anyone thinking we are playing too many games?

We are either playing too many games or lack personnel.
25 player squad, applies to all teams.
Competition for places.
Glasner doesn't use his squad, strange given the number of games.
Correction: injuries have forced him to use players he hadn't hitherto.

Quality is the underlying issue.
Thus it has always been at the club. If we had two first teams we would be up there with Mancester City and the rest. The problem is competition for places - Eddie Nketiah, ex Arsenal, who cost north of £25m, spends most of his time sat on the bench. I wonder what he makes of it? I know he's not that good, but Glasner has run Mateta into the ground, and look at him, can't buy a goal. Now it's possible we'll get this Spuds forward, and given his fee, he'll have to go straight into the starting line. £35m, I presume someone will be sold to make up the difference.

Once you get passed our best eleven……would you?
When we were doing ok I would have given some of them more than the cursory 5 minutes at the end of a game, how else are they to get experience? The irony is that now they are getting chucked in at the deep end. Also, if and when new signings come in, they'll go to the top of the pile so the bench warmers are there just to make up numbers: such is the fate of Uche for example.
In reality there has never been much beyond our first eleven, no matter who the manager was.

I’m definitely Team Glasner over Team Board (I won’t single out Parish although he has things to answer for but isn’t our richest investor). That said, he isn’t completely blameless.

We may well sign Johnson on the first day of the new window but given history, I can see why the Board might think he might spend the rest of the season on the bench and get a 5 minute cameo in March.

Now, if the signings aren’t up to scratch like Esse, then fine. Uche has proven he can be something though and yet can’t get a game against a half fit Mateta.

Nketiah isn’t what we were hoping for but he also can’t just be our bench player all the time. A club like ours simply can’t afford to drop 30-40mil on players to rot on the bench or make 5 minute cameos.

You can blame the scouting for that but either way, you need to get your Manager’s approval on the signing and then the caveat that you agreed to this so they must get some game time.

I can see our bench being Johnson, Uche and Nketiah whilst Devenney and 40% Mateta start for the rest of the season.

25 is the maximum number you can register. There are clubs who don't use all of those spaces and there are clubs who have all their spaces used up plus more players unregistered.

Just because we all have the same maximum doesn't mean we all have the same depth (what is meant by squad size).

We have maybe 15 truly first-team players and the rest of the squad is made up of academy players or Z-list players.

We actually had a larger squad last season when we were faced with a smaller schedule. We had one retirement and let go a number of players, we brought in less players than the total that left us.

Everyone from fans, pundits, paper media, the club ownership, and the manager, have all publicly recognised one way or another that we had a small squad in comparison to most sides in this league.

Hopefully we will increase it in this window. We've got off to a great start on that mission so far by signing BJ within two days.

Plus players under 21 don't need to be registered. That's perhaps where we fall down. Isn't easy to sign or produce quality U21s. Hence we often get early twenties players - slightly cheaper and more proven.

Unfortunately it's the downside of qualifying for a European competition for the first time for a club our size. No mid table team has faired well, once they got into Europe, they just haven't got the squad depth. The possible exception was West Ham, who are subsidised by the Government with a 62,000 seat stadium, but they have gone into tailspin, since they won a trophy.
I think we had played 9 more games than Fulham this season, when we played them last week.
No need to worry, normal service will be resumed next season.

Even when west ham won the conference I think they finished 9th. in the 23/24 season.

Not to mention spurs and man u league position last year getting to the final.

I would expect if we go all the way we would finish similarly in 9th/10th/11th/12th.

I do think we need to be a little bit more strategic in resting players to avoid burnout and injuries.

What's happened to west ham since, they have crashed and burned, not pushed on to be a top 10 team.

its cruel but , he has played 220 mins so far , no matter what he still wont be playing for a week after getting back
Absolutely true but it would mean he was available for our Sunderland away fixture on the 17th instead of it being the Chelsea fixture on the 25th + if Senegal beat Mali it means he has 2 extra games for Senegal with the added risk of him picking up an injury -
