He was really good on the Charlton loan. And the funny thing I find about the Sheffield Utd loan is that he had similar stats to Esse. He's maybe two years older.
He needs to stand out in Turkey to have much of a future here.
I can see him being a decent championship player or Scottish Premiership as he is already. Clearly, the jury's out on if he's Premier League level.
I would have liked to see us try him but it is what it is. I do think we're incredibly slow at using young players which reminds me now of Derry leaving.
I don't think Palace have handled JRS particularly well.
If you watch him closely he is a frustrating player. Can drift out of games and looks disinterested, however, he has flashes of brilliance and definitely has the X factor.
He is physically small and appeared to be a late grower - not everyone is built like a Rooney at 16.
The Charlton loan proved there is a very good player in there but consistency and maybe his work rate could prevent him reaching the top.
His next season at Palace was a big frustration - Roy barely played him and he got a couple of injuries.
When Ollie came in he had just returned from injury and clearly doesn't fit into his plans. The wide position in a 3421 is very different from a 433 and it takes time to adjust and understand that (as Sarr has shown/proved).
I think his Sheff loan was a little underwhelming but as some say it was a failure is a bit unfair.
He arrived injured so took a while to get in their team and with many midweek game she was often alternated (with Andre Brooks who played 20 prem games the season before).
His goal record was ok, similar to Eze for us really (and Eze scores in clusters).
The concern was that he rarely played a full 90 minutes and right at the end of the season appeared to be dropped. I think he has proved he is a decent championship player, but probably not Prem standard - no disgrace there.
To say he couldn't get a championship loan this season is also unfair.
Last year on top of wages we charged Sheff U a £1m loan fee and a £1m promotion bonus.
I suspect this year we wanted a loan with an obligation to buy (as he will only have 1 year left of his contract next summer) and clearly club's were less willing to agree to this. I suspect we wanted c£10m for him (Cannon moved to Sheff U for this fee in Jan 2025 after never playing for Leicester and played less than JRS).
I think a move to Rangers would have been good for him and would have increased his exposure.
Instead all these potential moves didn't get completed and now we've loaned him to Turkey, the only option left on the table.
Hopefully he will do ok, but even if he does i suspect we will be lucky to get £5m for him next summer.
As for Ahamada he appears the perfect panic buy. Yes we needed a central midfielder but he was completely the wrong fit. Hopefully he is not on massive wages as i strongly suspect we will need to 'release' him from his contract if he doesn't get a Jan loan and his contract is up next summer.
