A Beaver to replace Churchill

I was there too, returning a week ago. It was very windy, gale force at times, with some rain at times. Extremely unseasonal! The biggest problem though was the chaos at the airport where the new EES system isn’t functioning properly. The queues are long, tedious and fill the departure areas then when you reach the front the machines, of which there are only a few, fail to work properly. Flights are being delayed and at least one left without loading everyone.
My dear friends had no issues on entry to Arrecife airport, however on their return the queues at 'Check-in' were lengthy and they stood for an hour before they reached the desk ! They then had to validate their passports in the Departure Lounge then queued before proceeding through 'E-Gates' at the Boarding Gate, followed by a passport check by Police and finally a check by the Handing Agent before boarding the flight. All-in-all it was not a good experience for them.

That is now the new normal, i'm afraid. It's all down to the new 'EES' system(Entry & Exit System) required for non- EU travellers. You will get your passport & boarding pass checked at baggage, then you need your boarding pass to get through security, after going into the departure lounge, upon going to the departure gate you need to queue up to get through e-gates(IF, they're working) then get your passport stamped by border control & finally when boarding the aircraft you will need you pass to board.

I'm fairly lucky, as i can skip the queue's due to having SA(special Assistance), but, still have to go through the same process. Thing that's causing massive queues now is the fact that most people haven't had the retina scan nor their fingerprints done.

My friends mentioned that on entry at Arrecife airport they were directed to machines (Before E Gates) containing a passport and fingerprint reading facility. They inserted passports and received a message "Proceed to E Gates" so they never needed to register fingerprints.
On their return, they were informed to use machines in the departure lounge prior to proceeding to the boarding gate.Same machines as per entry, just passports were read, same message "Proceed to E Gates", no fingerprints recorded.
They have been regular travellers to Spain so suspect they had recorded their fingerprints previously hence it was not required on their latest visit.

I travel all around the world and none of the above is new. The real issue here is that the airports / government don't employ enough staff to handle the volume of people.

Nonsense, it's because they are all lazy civil servants who insist on working at home and who are just serving time until they get their gold plated pensions surely? 🙂

Very funny, although my recent experience with the baggage handlers at Jo'Burg airport tallies with your comments.

Lazy, useless, disinterested and completely unhelpful unlike the BA customer staff member who did his best to gee them up to find my bag (they refused to even consider looking for it).

For a brief period (a few decades) it became easier to cross borders legally however the prevailing wind is to go back to the Seventies et al. I forget how many times I have had to give fingerprints and stood for a photo at airport security it's no big deal and only takes moments. Like I said the only issue is when you have a plane load of people and only one passport officer.

Flying into Venice about 2 years ago we split into EU and non EU queues those with the dodgy "Oirish" passports were gloating about Brexshit etc. However both queues only had 2 staff per queue so yes they made it through a little bit quicker but we were all held up looking at the many empty unstaffed passport booths.

Having to wait is just part of the airport experience it doesn't ruin my holiday.

It's what you voted for

An ardent Brexiteer speaks.
Here comes predictable Dan.

Because leaving Europe and deciding our future course as a nation and choosing pictures or boat names is exactly the same. You heard it from Dan.

Yeah it's terrible a minor inconvenience once or twice a year for most people, nah let's give up our freedom to the EU so we don't have to wait in line at the airport.

What freedom is that exactly? It's not the freedom to go through airports in under an hour like we used to. Nor stay or work in EU countries for as long as we wish either. Your freedom is based on your annual holiday not being much inconvenience to you rather than what anybody else wants to do with their lives.

At least it stopped the foreigners coming over

Really? How did they consult - by semaphore?
It'd have been impractical to consult 60m people so they used a broad cross-section. Too bad you weren't included in that. Neither was I but I'm not going to work myself up into a lather about what goes on a f*cking banknote. Besides, I think putting images of British nature on them is a rather nice idea

You’re the one manufacturing outrage over what picture is on a piece of paper, snowflake.
Outrage?

I'm just pointing out the obvious. I know what the enemy looks like.
