A Beaver to replace Churchill

Who voted for beavers anyway? Adorable, yes, but recent reintroduction aside I do not associate them with Britain at all as they haven't been present in the UK for over 400 years.

Deer, stags, badgers, falcons, ducks, puffins, hedgehogs, foxes, owls, otters, rabbits, mice and moles and even stoats and weasels. But not beavers.

That is part of the midset for sure.

Who would be offended by Churchill? Only those who are morons or shouldn't be here in the first place.
Who has suggested anyone has been offended by Churchill?

That said my Dad, whose ship was sunk in WW2, was pretty offended by him for sending it to the far east without sufficient air cover.

You though get offended by some very strange concepts! I really don’t care too much what’s on our notes. Especially as I rarely see one these days.

It’s my understanding that the BoE carried out a consultation with the public on what they want. British nature being the preference. So, despite the nonsense being spewed out in places like this it appears likely the new designs will prove popular.

I cannot understand the outcry on this subject, the BofE has stated that animals are much harder to forge and that is the reason.

Depends on how the consultation was conducted.
A developer is trying to build some houses on some greenfield site in my village and sent out a questionnaire for the locals to complete.
The questions…How supportive are you about the proposed development?
1. Very supportive 2. Supportive 3. Undecided
There was no option to object…

Unlike you it seems I am not so cynical. I assume the BoE would conduct a survey to actually find out what people thought.

You are correct a consultation will take place but the Governor will have the final say, just to make sure a sheep called MacBoaty face doesn't emerge.

Perhaps a note with a sturgeon on it would be popular there?

Then you could go the whole hogg, reintroduce the old penny and call it the salmon(d).

That would make the regressives happy.
A sturgeon wouldn't be as popular as it might have been a few years ago.
The £5 note already has two mackerel on it which most people assume are salmon anyway.

I would take your point if Churchill was replaced by notable members of our minority - see for instance the current members of the Order of Merit (and compare to illustrious former members).

However, sticking a hedgehog on was probably designed to offend no-one. If they (whoever "they" are?) are guilty of anything, it is trying too hard to steer a middle course.

Rather obviously this is how it starts.

I can't believe that you don't intrinsically understand that.

You create the precedent to normalise the change.

For example, we didn't go straight to gay marriage but started with civil unions.

You are obviously fine with this. I'm not personally Churchill's biggest fan, but that's not the point. He is a monumental part of our history and he and others being replaced by wildlife is an insult.

The mainstream left's attitude to Britain's past is hardly a secret.

Personally I am fond of a bit of beaver......

But why the froth now? We replaced all of the crowns and pageantry on our coins a couple of years ago with animals and there is now some fella on coins notes and stamps rather than the old queen.

Methinks Mr Farage is just making mischief again as he seeks to deflect from real issues like struggling at one side to support his pal Donald (whose possibly making less sense than even his usual low bar) and prices going up linked to war in the middle east.

Scottish notes already have squirrels and otters on them and I'd be more than happy to accept lorry loads of them.
I thought we already did that in order to pacify the unruly Scottish heathens. if I had my way we would return the Scots and keep the banknotes, thus giving all taxpayers a months visit to Lanzarote. 😉

I have some dear friends who have recently returned from Lanzarote where the weather was a combination of overcast, rain, wind, with the sun only making a fleeting appearance before it was engulfed by heavy cloud.Visitors had to resort to attire normally worn in England, jackets, fleeces, cardigans etc. My friends could not wait to return home after 10 days.

More fool them going this time of year then 🤣

I was there too, returning a week ago. It was very windy, gale force at times, with some rain at times. Extremely unseasonal! The biggest problem though was the chaos at the airport where the new EES system isn’t functioning properly. The queues are long, tedious and fill the departure areas then when you reach the front the machines, of which there are only a few, fail to work properly. Flights are being delayed and at least one left without loading everyone.

You and I know they are here to steal the resources that the previous generations built for this country.

They feel entitled to it.

They aren't here because they are anglophiles.

A lot of them are the very opposite.
Do you seriously believe that?

Don’t you think that most are simply trying to find a better life for them and their families? Some fleeing war, and/or persecution at the same time. Often incurring significant risk and costs in the process.

We can agree they aren’t yet anglophiles, in the traditional sense. Just as you aren’t in the sense of today.
