Eze to spurs?

As per Tottenhamhotspur.com

Our net debt as of 30 June 2024 was £772.5m
What money is talking here?
Clubs like spurs can carry large debt because of the assets i.e value of players, ground supporter base etc. as long as thier value exceeds the debt then they can operate. My point about money looks was more aimed at players in general not just Eze. If spurs are going to offer maybe £200,00 per week then he will go as fast as his legs will take him

In 13 years
Which of our players have been ‘picked off at will?’
-Bollasie ? Great sale. Did nothing at Everton
-AWB? . £52 m from the academy. Had to go. Got great money for him, failed at Man Utd.
-olise?Buy out clause, so we had no choice. . Had to go, to one of the biggest teams in the world. Ballon Dor selected
-Anderson. Slow. Wanted too much money. Replaced by a player , that cost half as much and twice as good.

Who are these players getting ‘picked off at will ?’
And in that 13 years how many players have we had that anyone else wanted who stayed?

A mate of mine with serious (high level) Spurs connections told me today that Eze has gone for £55m plus add ons...
When will see any of that when they already owe £330 m on previous transfers.

So what's Parish done with all the money from previous sales etc? We definitely didn't spend it on Munoz, Esse etc....correct me if I'm wrong by all means
As has been said there have been other signings of Nketiah, Riad, Wharton etc. but it seems largely sales have just balanced the books and paid wages?

It just seems the sad reality that our chairman is a relative pauper worth 50 million and the alternative is external funders like Textor who don’t have the club’s best interest at heart or billionaire owners… like Maranakis.

Some good posts on this thread and agree with a lot of what has been said. My thoughts are:

- Sad, he has legendary status for the FA Cup final goal alone so his departure would always be such.

- Disappointing that it’s Spurs, awful football club and can’t see much for him there beyond a taste of CL football. May be worse than Wilf’s experience. Thomas Frank though, so you never know.

- Seems right however, Ebs is mercurial albeit World Class on his day. Had a few WHU fans tell me same thing about Kudus of course and it’s a very ‘Spursy’ signing.

- F**king annoying, on the eve of our first game and with virtually no money spent. Our summer ‘window’ seems to go from quite bad to even worse.

- Hard not to be bitter, I don’t think there’s any obligation on any player to stay at a club, it’s their career and they don’t owe fans anything, but it’s hard not to feel an inclination towards this. It will be a farewell with my upmost gratitude but not my best wishes for the future.

Not gonna lie, this one hurts.

Eze was a cup hero and certified club legend. Him forcing a move to Spurs of all people is sadly going to be his legacy and of course, he's going to score against us.

If the figure is £55m they have pulled our pants down. I've always seen him as a luxury player, but the tail end of last season onwards, he's been a revelation, running through players at ease, scoring worldies at will, like he's playing FIFA on easy mode. I hope to be proved wrong but he will be hard to replace.

Because they are the all time losers, think the are a big club, don't deliver, the only thing big about the Spuds are there big mouth fans, last time the won the league was 65 years ago, no domestic cup for 17 years, and 1 losing final in the history of the Champions/European cup, not the history of a big club, all mouth and trousers.
FYI, 'all mouth and no trousers'

Parish was trying to sell him last summer. Olise left instead.

It is what it is. He gave us the best memories a palace fan as ever had. His goal will go down in history for us and I'm sure there will be a statue at some point.

Best to go out on top anyway. He's only realistically got 3-4 years left at the top.

Great chance now for Esse to make his mark and get some game time in the conference league too.
That doesn't seem very likely. Olise was pretty much nailed on to leave and we could hardly afford to have lost both. Plus, if he couldn't sell him for the release clause last year, why would he think he would go for the same sum a year older and a year closer to the end of his contract?

If he is not in the squad today, then sadly we have to accept the fact he has left us. It’s a great shame, but as most of you have pointed out, that’s football!

It would be interesting to see how we set up without him today? Perhaps he will use Esse?

How are they allowed to keep spending big money if they still owe 330 million on previous transfers??
The Big 6 vs The Other 14!

Their net spend on transfers over the past 5 years is nearing €600 million, behind only Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal.

They're also 3rd on the list of clubs with the largest debt at €1.3 billion! Only behind Man U and Barcelona.

And yes, they owe over €300 million in transfer fees already!

We're 2nd lowest in owed transfer fees at less then €40 million

This is all very well but realistically what's the point of being in the precious Premier League? We're unlikely to ever finish higher than 8th/9th and all we are is a scouting system for richer clubs. We've been an established PL team for years, won the FA Cup and got into Europe and we're still skint with a crap stadium.
The chances of progressing when our best players get picked off at will are virtually zero and quite honestly I'm tired of the whole circus; clubs hundreds of millions in debt can spend hundreds of millions more with no problem.
Disagree all you like but this league isn't set up to be competitive; it just makes rich people richer. I know Leicester had a freak season but does anyone seriously believe that could happen to us?
The only solution I can see is for the money clubs to piss off into their Euro Super League and play exhibition games every week while the rest of us get on with it.
Your right

I'm still trying to get my head round all this

After the highs of winning the FA Cup & Charity Shield, then the downer of the whole CAS/UEFA, losing one of our key/best players on the eve of the new season seems just absurd.... and is just another kick in the nads. I'm disappointed that Ebbs wants out tbh.

How on earth are we supposed to compete in ANY competition without players like Ebbs & Marc? Our squad is so thin. Glasner must be pissed despite his calm appearance......... I can see him going in May too.

JP yet to sign a new contract too.... and not forgetting Marc will probably go any minute too...

What is going on with Parish? Has he been so focused on the Europe thing, that he's left everything else too late?

I was really excited for this season....... that's somewhat drained away now.......

Eze has been in play since it was clear from Parish's interview last season that the club was almost inviting bids.
This is the reality for all but the top clubs in trying to retain exceptional players .

For fans of a certain vintage (i.e old) he's the archetypal Spurs player.
Gifted, capable of brilliance but with spells of inconsistency which title contenders try and minimise in their players.

From Palace's standpoint, if he does leave we will still have a good structure, organisation and talented players in our team.
But we will miss his special moments which turn games.
I doubt we'd have won the FA Cup without his special moments.
We can't replace him like for like ( similar to Olise), but Sarr with a different profile of player showed it's possible to pose alternative threats.
Do you regard a team that hasn't won its domestic league for 65 years a top club?

You misunderstand me.
I don’t consider them a top club in terms of being able to retain their best players (e.g Bale, Kane) when the giants come calling.

The point I was making is that the vast majority of clubs in the Premier League will struggle to hold on to players when the rich clubs come calling and Palace are amongst that majority.
The players largely hold the power these days, and this can be even when under contract (see Wissa , Isac).
In the old days club would fine them and potentially make them train with the youth team.
These days it’s more likely that the clubs will say, ‘they are not in right head space to play.’
