Time to start doing Business Steve..!!

I think Devenny is massively underrated, and will compliment Wharton, Stronger, more box to box, i don't think we should buy a CM, it may hinder his progress, Future Palace Captain for sure.
I think one of our problems is that we don't rate our own youngsters or players we initially brought in for the Academy (such as Devenny) highly enough.

Devenny gets better the more he plays. He's shown he's got confidence in his own ability. At Wembley last Sunday, it wasn't just that he put his hand up when Glasner asked for the 5th penalty taker, he walked up to the other end with a confident walk. He took his time and wasn't phased by Alisson's slow return to the goal and then he slammed his kick where he said he'd envisaged putting it. Nerves of steel.

I note the Beeb has him (and Esse) among their 21 break out players this season. I'm confident that Devenny will prove to be worthy of a being a first team starter before the end of this season. I'm hoping Esse might prove he's worth regular minutes off the bench and ultimately a replacement for Sarr

Off the top of my head I can’t think of a top level professional who has missed a couple of consecutive seasons through injury and then been able to resume a career at top level.
It is likely to be the exception rather than the rule.

Doucoure was outstanding as a holding midfield player able to distribute the ball accurately.
He was our player of the season and Liverpool were reputedly interested in him to perform that role in front of the back four for them.

We don’t play in a similar way, at least under Glasner, and have not seen evidence as to whether he would be effective in a 2 man central midfield.
He had a brief cameo away at Chelsea where he helped turn the game for us , but that was because we needed to stem the attacks and he could perform that patrolling role in front of our defence.
With a back 3 that patrolling role usually becomes redundant.

I might be wrong, but I think the odds are stacked against him at becoming an integral first team member under Glasner for the reasons outlined above.

With regard to Devenny , I think it’s too early to make an assessment as to whether he can become a regular starter for us.
He’s largely performed cameo roles so far and certainly hasn’t let us down.
Importantly, he seems to have a level headed temperament, a willingness to learn, and a quiet determination to progress.
He gets around the field and has a decent first touch and an accurate pass.
I missed the game v Wolves at the end of the season when he got a rare start and my children told me had a really good game.
My slight reservation is not about his play, but the fact that the club only gave him a 3 year contract.
For young players who are viewed as being outstanding talents they usually offer longer periods.
Fuerthermore, all Glasner has been willing to commit to this season for him is that he will be ‘offered more minutes.’
I suppose if he does get an extended run, and does very well, he could save us a lot of money .

Not sure I've suggested a squad full of international players - we've certainly got plenty of room to add some more before we have to worry about squad disharmony.

Similarly, not sure anything I've said is neglecting the contribution of our existing players given I've described them all as 'good PL players' - Hughes is probably my favourite player in the squad.

But we should be in the market for upgrades.
what's all this clamour for international Standard players? I don't give a rats a*s about them being international standard. I want them to be domestic standard - and be the player we need from them in the position we want them to play in.
International football is a different beast to domestic football. It's one of it's problems.

Not sure there is any clamour.

It’s a simple way of describing a player of a certain pedigree.

I don’t want to belittle what he did, because I do agree it shows a lot of bottle, but the above also feels like it’s getting a bit excessive - he scored a good penalty in a reasonably pressured situation.

I don’t think we need to oversell it.

Media reporting departures imminent for Eze, Franca, and Eduardo.
Replacements with some 14 days to go before window shuts??
I read today some hype nonsense mentioning Real Madrid and Wharton. The piece managed to suggest that Wharton was a replacement for Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. I chuckled to myself.

Very little in the way of rumour, let alone solid interest. Something has to break soon if it’s going to. The usual late loan maybe, we could do with more than that in particular if any of those leave.

Well Edouard is crap, Franca is going on loan, and Eze's Release clause will expire tomorrow if it hasnt already, i will be Furious if we let him go for less than 68m, even worse the famous Undisclosed fee to protect your embarrassment, if he goes to Spurs he is a mug.

Mate another day goes by and nothing other than Edouard out for £4M - so we’re in profit for the window..!!

We’ve just won the FA Cup and Charity shield - I said right at the top we need to build on that momentum - 2 weeks left of the window and nothing of substance..!!

What the hell is going on..!!

I even tried to look at is positively last night - keep the squad together - add 3 more quality signings then we’re done..!!

Still nothing but inertia - we are now officially the lowest spending club in the League for this window..!!

This is just a complete shambles - we are so close to having a really decent squad - 3 more signings - but still SP procrastinates and procrastinates - same window after bloody window - OG must be pulling his hair out..!!

Come on Steve this is getting beyond a joke now..!!

🙈😡

Lets hope so. Both clearly have something about them.

Really hoping that with a proper pre-seasons to assess we'll see a bit more of both. With his utility, Devenny will be very useful this season I'm sure.

In fairness the past few years the club have been incredibly secretive about their dealings and the day we find out we have interest in a player is the day we sign them. I'm staying faithful.

Nothing tangible is going on, only complacency.
OG, when he walks could potentially sue,for breach of contract, given apparently assurances that there would be signings early in the window.
What a joke.

You’ve got far more faith than me - ATM - as I said a complete shambles and we’re going backwards at a fast rate of knots..!!

I really hope SP proves me wrong - but ATM - just can’t see it..!!

As I said last night this is bordering on incompetence now..!!
