It's on the Mail so can't be true

The criticism of the Mail is not that it invents things. It would be sued more often if it did. The criticism is about the choice of stories and the presentation, the emphasis on some aspects and the deliberate omission of others. It has an agenda and a readership to satisfy so spins everything to suit.

Are you considering applying for a job there then?

I know you're retired but with that job description it sounds like you could run the place.

That could be said of every media company surely?

I am far too busy and not a journalist they would want, although I have a friend, now retired, who is passionately opposed to anything on the hard right but who worked as a sub editor there for many years. It just proves professionals can separate their personal opinions from their work ones. He knew the company style, what they wanted included, excluded or emphasised and how to précis a story to fit the allocated space. He did it because it paid very well and he was good at it.

Choice if “ stories” ! Do you mean what other outlets choose to ignore? So should they not report what is going on? Or should it all be swept under the carpet?

If a story is genuinely newsworthy it gets covered by all the media. If it only gets covered by the Mail then perhaps it isn’t really newsworthy but something they feel their particular readership will enjoy. Perhaps because it panders to their prejudices.

Apart from that the Mail is particularly adept at emphasising aspects that chime with their political positions and ignoring any that might conflict with them.

Headline from the Western Delusional Gazette

" Person who considers himself better than everyone else doesn't like newspaper reporting facts"

So is this one newsworthy? Or I you saying he didn’t say it because it’s in the Mail? Or does it just not fit with what the public should be told? At last a politician with the balls to say it as it is

Well done Greece. And also evidence that you can be in the EU and have tough border laws.

Haven’t heard what the EU have said about it yet 😂.
Serious question do you believe countries like France Germany, Italy have strong border controls? If so, how do so many undocumented migrants make into their country?
