The CFCB First Chamber had opened proceedings against Crystal Palace and Olympique Lyonnais due to a potential conflict with the multi-club ownership rule provided for in Article 5 of the UEFA Club Competitions Regulations.

On 9 July 2025, the appeal instance of the French financial control authority (DNCG) decided not to relegate Olympique Lyonnais to Ligue 2. Consequently, and following an assessment by the CFCB of all the other relevant conditions included in the settlement agreement, Olympique Lyonnais will not be excluded from the 2025/26 UEFA club competitions (see media release of 30 June 2025).

Consequently, the CFCB First Chamber pursued the assessment of the documentation submitted by Olympique Lyonnais and Crystal Palace and concluded that the clubs breached, as at 1 March 2025, the multi-club ownership criteria foreseen in Art 5.01 of the UEFA Club Competition Regulations.

For this reason, and in accordance with the provisions set in Art. 5.02, 5.03 and 5.04 of the UEFA Club Competitions Regulations, the CFCB First Chamber decided:

• To accept Olympique Lyonnais’ admission to the 2025/26 UEFA Europa League; and

• To reject Crystal Palace’s admission to the 2025/26 UEFA Europa League and to accept Crystal Palace’s admission to the 2025/26 UEFA Conference League.

The present decision may be appealed against before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, in accordance with Articles 62 and 63 of the UEFA Statutes.

Gutted for the players and manager. The best thing about being in the Europa was the possibility we might keep our best players and/or sign some decent ones on the back of it. What happens on that front is key to our season. Either way I hope we don’t fold and sell our stars in the cheap. Also likely to impact on the chance of persuading Ollie to sign on for a while longer.

Likewise, the Conference has a direct route to the Europa. Two of the four winners, Chelsea and West Ham
That is like selling someone the bike you just stole from them.

you have to remember, we won the FA Cup, we are in Europe & at the moment, have kept all our players. Br1-3ton on the other hand . . . 😀

It seems there's a decent chance CAS will overturn this as the clause UEFA are basing this on looks debatable at best.

One thing football bodies are crap at is upholding their rules. Just see the number of cases the Premier League has lost recently and how Many City are currently dancing around them. City won the right to get even more lucrative 'sponsorship' deals from the Emirati and Newcastle have the right to do the same from the Saudis. The Prem also lost their case on enforcing PSR regulations on Leicester.

What the bodies have managed to do is punish Palace for Textor having too much control, when he has argued for years his frustration at not having any control, and benefit:

Lyon, whose finances are so bad they were initially relegated by their own league

Forest, who have broken PSR rules and whose owner quite literally runs two clubs (but that is fine as long as the paperwork says something else)

and allow City and Girona who have the same sponsor (the owners), Girona are 47% owned by the City Football Group and are the largest owner, and have made 25 transfers between each other on the last 10 years.

The rules aren't even stopping the thing they're meant to stop. It's an absolute farce.

OK if appeal fails and we are stuck in Conference
firstly we have to win it and qualify for the Europa League and then see how we can be barred from the elite. (expect they will change the rules of entry before then mind!)

We also need some good songs ref this though.
Would love us to embrace some good songs
Already seen someone adapt a favourite on twitter "Conference league don't give a .fck... we won the FA Cup.
Could get the upper homesdale and Arthur singing this. Then a response from the lower
UEFA are a fking joke, we won the FA CUP.
Perhaps we might sing it at the end of rounds we win!

Be loud be Palace. Lets continue to ride the FA Cup wave. And get the vocals loud on tv through all the rounds!

Is anyone else thinking we could win another trophy (yeah yeah, a mickey mouse one) and then play in the Europa League? It's two for one.

In the spirit of everyone posting strange analogies tonight, it's like buying tickets to see Taylor Swift and finding out she's been replaced by somebody that isn't a vacuous and talentless oxygen thief. Because she's been in a car accident.

I don’t need to say it but… corrupt c****! Utterly shameless c****. Plain simple c****. Right that is UEFA rant out the way.

Ladies and Gentlemen… we won the FA f***ing CUP!!!

Nobody but nobody can take that or that incredible day away from us. Everyone with even half a brain knows we should be in the Europa League as we won the right fair and square. Even if (and we all know he didn’t) Textor ‘had’ a decisive influence he absolutely doesn’t going into the season in question as he no longer owns any part of the club. Common sense was never going to prevail with those brown envelope loving Euro c****.

Anyway. Reasons to be cheerful.

1. We can get on with the season now, onwards with a proper pre season.

2. Forest and the fat f*** owner are getting raped for there best players… let’s all enjoy them getting f***ed early on in the Europa. Even threatening to take spurs to court 🤣🤣

3. We can really push on and win the europa Zenith data cup and qualify for The Europa that way.

4. We can retain the FA cup and qualify that way

5. Push the f*** on and finish high enough to qualify that way.

6. An extra season before a proper European invasion will do us good to build the squad.

7. We have Olly…all of the above is very very doable.

8. WE WON THE FA f***ing CUP BABY!!!

Also as Solhekol points out in the video posted above their main concern is for the (ahem) integrity of the competition. Textor has resigned from Lyon and sold his shares in Palace so how can he impugn any integrity going forward?
