Labour Party politics

The Triple Lock is now costing treble what it was assumed to cost when introduced in 2012 at £15.5bn a year.

State Pension is on course to cost 7.5% of the UK's entire GDP within 50 years. Currently at 5%, compared with 2% in the 50s.

Unsustainable.

Another 2.5% in 50 years? I'm fine with that.
That would be a 50% increase.

The UK has allowed a culture of entitlement in welfare and pensions that is simply not sustainable with a combination of ageing population. massive net taker immigration, no societal condemnation of grifting and playing the system and now a govt driving away the high taxpayers.

The devil is in the detail but in principle I am okay with this.

People will say a jury trial is part of our legal system but you should also ask why?

Once upon a time we didn't have the vote and the local Baron could just throw you in his castle prison at this whim. Gradually we started to get rights and the point of the jury trial was a bulwark against corrupt and untrained judges.

Unless it is a serious case we now have a professional legal system and cases such as fraud are often too complicated for a jury to understand.

Across Europe a lot of cases are handled solely by judges. We shall have to see how Labour react.
