This is indeed a pointless debate. They were the same people living in that area for thousands of years.....Arabs came along with Islam in the 7th century....so they are heavily mixed in with Arab.
The Jews have had a massive admixure of European genes over the best part of two thousand years from multiple types, Netty is probably just as German as he is Jewish.....but most Jews were Eastern European.
I read about some Jews who have gone back to Poland because they felt it more their ancestral home, which for some Jews makes sense.....obviously most Jews are in America.
It's a moot point.
Both are ethnic groups.
Israel as we know it now exists purely because of the Holocaust and religious texts.
The Jews have always been a dispersed people. From Ramesses II to Hitler and Stalin and a whole lot more, Jews have had a rough time being accepted just about everywhere they have gone. Nonetheless, many Jews are doing fine where they are now. Particularly in the US.
Using the logic that Jews used for the creation of the state of Israel, one could just as easily claim that Catholics have a right to a place in Palestine, since their religion began there. In fact, all Christians could claim it as their homeland.
Now we know that there are Jews who are related through blood and those that have plenty of other genes swirling around. Some might claim a direct genetic link back to the Biblical lands some not so much.
Does that means that all people of Irish or Scottish descent or indeed anyone else can citizenship in their mother country in two thousand years if things aren't going too well for them? Unlikely.
My point is that logical arguments have no place here. Who was there first or second? It doesn't matter any more.
Israel exists because it was essentially a gift to a people who had just seen 6 million of its number destroyed in a few years. I don't suppose that those who signed off on it ever realised how big it would grow or bothered themselves with the possibility of regional destabilisation in the future. They had a lot on their plate already, and the Jews were a problem that had to be resolved.
So here we are.
