Whenever freedom of speech is being eroded, as it is now, it’s in transition. A complete ban doesn’t exist or there would be already be an autocracy and not complaints that there is a threat of one.

So opinion polls have not been banned. Yet! However, if they start showing results that portray the administration as unpopular how long will be it be before only licensed and approved polls are allowed?

as previously discussed on here, only some kinds of speech are being curtailed.

Fellas can still openly blaspheme against Christianity with wanton abandon. They can give it, but they themselves cannot take it (disrespect).

Sounds familiar.

That’s not the way things played out, especially in the United States. Experts, like everyone else, have their own biases and perspectives. This showed up in the choices some made about what to fact check and how. Over time we ended up with too much content being fact checked that people would understand to be legitimate political speech and debate. Our system then attached real consequences in the form of intrusive labels and reduced distribution. A program intended to inform too often became a tool to censor.

i now predict McGregor will get taken down. One way or another. Lawfare, the taxman, whats left of his reputation, a tragic accident while out on his bicycle, some other thing we have already witnessed elsewhere.

unfortunately Trump is going after anyone who he feels has either 'wronged' him or questions his actions.

He even stated the Voice of America was anti Trump - he's not even trying to hide it.

There will be more to come.

I fear you are far, far too late in that regard - McGregor is a coked up scumbag with major delusions of grandeur.

The idea that anyone needs to 'take him down' is quite funny - he's being doing that all on his own over the last few years.

I don't like McGregor at all. But I agreed with everything he said in the Whitehouse yesterday 😯

He also clearly triggered a lot of the Irish politicians and journalists which is my book a good thing 😃

He holds alot of sway and no doubt the civil court result hit on him just before the elections last year were well timed.

Totally untrue and out of the context here.

Which is how people in the USA are now feeling.

When you have a thin skinned President who sees any criticism as deserving of retribution then you have a big problem.

Comment was never though prohibited in the same way was it? What we are witnessing is seriously scary.
 
By rights Trump should be the most important defender of free speech and democracy in the world. The sad reality is that he is a would-be dictator, and he is so disparaging of alternative viewpoints that he didn't believe he really lost the previous election. Mind you most of us would disbelieve it if we lost to Biden !
