Is this season a bit dull ?

My high blood pressure is certainly easier to manage this season! Personally I’m enjoying the progress we’ve made as a team - more attacking, younger, fitter, and increasing depth in the squad. The games are much more enjoyable to watch and even the odd loss doesn’t feel so bad.
Great to see the academy start to produce talent even if they end up bringing in a fee and going elsewhere. The occasional player getting into the first team is great to see. It feels like we finally have a business model which works for us as a club.
The only times I feel that old anxiety creeping back in are during the January and summer windows. Will we lose our top players? Will we finally sign someone? Even that is a little less stressful knowing that, should we sell the likes of Guehi and Eze, it’s not the end of the world. We have strength in depth and players ready to step up.
Just need Ollie to sign a new contract and life will be beautiful!

I just can’t count the intertoto cup in July!! I think the club just treated it as part of pre-season, but I suppose technically I have seen palace play in Europe then, does going away to Cardiff and Wrexham count as well? 😀
So have I. Saw Palace play inter Milan at Selhurst in the Anglo Italian Cup.
That was a great game and atmosphere. Reckon every Italian waiter in London was there !

I remember going to that game. Such a good atmosphere.

Without googling it didn't Adriano score in that game?

The Premier League is boring!!

Teams all play a no risk, similar style to one another. There are hardly any maverick, genius types like 15 years ago. There’s very few great goals now, especially dribbling type ones.

I find myself watching more and more Championship footy now as it’s not so predictable and therefore more exciting.

It is all patterns of play. You very rarely see dribbling type goals as you say or headed goals from crosses in open play. Teams are rigidly drilled, very fit and can change half the outfield players during a game which means you don’t find player getting tired and leaving space. City were dominant because they perfected this ultra controlled, ultra drilled way of playing and had two elevens worth of players to do it. It’s very impressive in its way but a bit sterile. A bit like Team Sky were in cycling

Title holder and relegated teams confirmed already.

But at least City, United and Chelsea are all in places they absolutely wish they were not. Tottenham too I suppose but I don't mind them.

I look at the season so far as a wasted opportunity.

We really could have been in top 8 at this stage.

Football has started to be dull for a while now with the silly changes they keep trying to push.

Stockport was not good for the old ticker. Glad not to be anywhere near that kind of jeopardy.
I remember that day was the first visit for my missus and me to see our new-born nephew. I got in big trouble because I sat watching the football, and in even bigger trouble when she came out and saw me with tears of relief in my eyes after we stayed up. "You've got your new-born nephew in the room next door and here you are crying about the bloody football," or something along those lines, she said 🤣

This sounds like the Chinese curse " May you live in interesting times" dullness is given a bad press. You have seen the headline WAR but i'm happy with the headline peace.

One of the other things that I think has taken out some excitement is that most of our games have either been very professional wins where we weren’t in huge danger of losing or losses where we don’t play well. There haven’t been any see saw games I can think of or dramatic turnarounds etc. Maybe coming back from 2-0 at home to Leicester or scoring in the 94th minute vs Newcastle but that’s it.

I was present at the game against Inter Milan.
I cannot recall who scored for the visitors but recall that Alan Birchenall netted for our club.
Did the game not end 2-0 to inter Milan? Or am I thinking of a different time we played them?

Not bored at all. The beginning of the season had our usual relegation worries coming back, but thankfully that was quieted by the end of the Christmas season. But the best part is that our style of play is soooo much better under Glasner than Hodgson. I don't blame Hodgson for playing that style, he really didn't have much flair players to play differently, but it was dull at times.

So I look forward to games for a different reason. Exciting play. It used to be only Wilf that got you out of your seat when he had the ball, now it's Eze, Munoz, Wharton, Mateta, Hughes, etc.

As for the boring Premier League people have commented on, I'll just say yes, and no. I find Man City painful to watch when they go ahead in games. Just passing and probing constantly, with the other team chasing the ball. That being said, its one team (and thankfully they haven't been ahead in so many games this year). Most of the league is actually quite exciting to watch (Palace, Tottenham, Liverpool, Chelsea, etc.). Yes, there are boring games, but that happens.

The alternative for me is watching the MLS, where teams "go for it" in all the matches. It's usually a much more open match, but the quality is lacking. So a trade off.
