War in Ukraine

Tbh I struggle to see the advantage of that fancy move, the only reason you might use it is if a enemy aircraft is very close on your arse, in which case you are likely to have already had a sidewinder up the tailpipe, and if not put yourself low and slow, a death sentence in knife fights, open to a gunshots - embarrassing flying. .Thrust vectoring though, the Harrier could do it properly. That "falling leaf" stuff looks great at an airshow and in Top Gun Maverick, but Tom, what was he doing? Perfect place to light him up.

Those MiG29s at Fairford did a great display back then 😁

All that aside those days are over, it's missile tech and good radar that wins the day, and those Russian birds are LARGE airframes and give off quite the reflection, and the biggest threats are missiles.

What's the aircraft simulation you use Spindle, if you don't mind me asking?

DCS.

I concentrate on Viper, in VR, full fidelity. I'm just completing a milsim campaign based on the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah, only 12 pilots though, 8 Hornets from a carrier and a flight of Vipers. It's mostly 20k ft using the targeting pod and dropping GBU12s now.

For fun I do WW2 in IL2 as part of a large organised group (120+ active "pilots"). We're about to embark on a Normandy campaign, historically based missions.

Sounds really cool.

I have a Quest 3 but I mostly use it for fitness stuff.

That must be scary in VR. Do you have to strap in as I did the quite simple shark coming up in the sea and nearly hit the ceiling from a chair 😂

I know I can really recommend VR stuff, it's not for everyone but it's definitely not something I've regretted spending money on.

I think this is what Spindle is referring to.

Lol it is surprising on the brain especially at first. In the early days I found the lawn dart when I was shot down would give me that feeling like when you go over a hump back bridge just as I was about to hit the deck.

It is very immersive I can say that, it looks nerdy and sad but when in the 'pit it really feels like it.

@Stirling, Q3 is a really decent set. The video, yeah it's that but I can't stand those sorts of servers and pilots, it's total airquake, the guy is in the dirt shooting anything he can see. It's just not anything like how these machines are used in the real world. I wouldn't be surprised if it's even a hotstart on that server. I try to simulate, utter wannabe fast jet pilot 😀

Starmer: Ukraine peace deal would not have happened without Donald Trump.

With Trump, if the war had started there would have been the peace deal in 2022 and hundreds of thousands of mostly men but women and children too would be alive.

Before Trump turned up the Russians weren't interested in answering the phone and now I'm confident that a peace deal can be done far easier than would have been the case.

However, I doubt personally that Trump is going to get a deal before the summer. The Russians aren't going to give concessions in a war they are winning.

It hasn’t happened yet and won’t unless both Ukraine and Russia agree something.

Don’t be fooled. Starmer is doing what needs to be done to ensure Trump doesn’t give away any more than he has already.

The only reason Putin is “picking up the phone” is because it has allowed him back onto the global stage. He thinks he will get everything he wants if Trump overseas any deal and not NATO. That’s what Starmer is working to avoid.

We could once.

I don't like my nation being laughed at.

I wasn't part of the political ideology and class that took this country from a leading position in the world into one that has to kneel and scape and go cap in hand to its former colony.

Half of Trump's genes come from these isles.....Scottish mother, American father but of German descent.
