If Sage had Lacroix, Munoz, Riad, Mateta, and Sarr on the pitch, I think we would be comfortably mid-table.

Sarr and Mateta seem determined not to be available and Larsen and Nketia are nowhere near good enough. So our best chance of survival is a big spend in January on a winger, a striker and a centre back. Very difficult to pull off, but this is a position that the board has put itself in.

Relying on Riad was just plain stupid and it has been known that Mateta wanted to leave for some time.

Signing Larsen and Brennan Johnson was a gobsmackingly awful idea since we already had one waste of space up front who cost us large.

Whoever we want to blame for this mess, someone has to get us out of it, or it will be cold nights in the Championship still without a new stand built. At least we could knock the current one down and live with 20k for a season.
The best chance of remaining a Premiership side is not to have to compete in the Europa League once the knockout stages begins. To that end, the manager might 'rest' a few players before the Liverpool match. How cruel that that lot are next on the list as at present we probably have a one percent chance of beating them. But whatever our strongest team from those available might be, we have to play it on Sunday.

They will find playing in a back 4 with a defensive midfielder in front of them 100% easier than playing in a back 3 with 2 lightweight midfielders getting overrun in front of them and 2 full backs completely out of the game when the opposition turns the ball over quickly.

How many times this season have we seen the opposition attack us with a 3 vs 3, one defender has been dragged out wide, their other attacker is inbetween the lines, disasi doesn't know whether to come or stay, on top of worrying about the other attacker running in behind him. Any back three will find that difficult to defend.
Difficult is their job! If it was easy it wouldn't cost what it did to get them on the pitch. We'd all be applying. Richards was great against Besiktas but he has not been consistent this season so far. Canvot is not playing well, Honest looks lightweight, Disasi not good enough (never was imo), Riad is sadly made of glass. Lerma, while not a long term answer has to be playing at centre back right now. As for the full backs Mitchell needs to do better and for me while I still like Kalaili a spell out of the spotlight would do him good. He needs to be benched and work harder on his defensive responsibilities on the training ground. I currently prefer Mingueza who was good against Besiktas. A more defensive wide player.
Then theres the midfield. So little protection in front of them.
I would be seriously considering dropping Wharton. He was awful against Spurs and love him as we all do nobody should be getting picked on reputation. Doucoure one half, Hughes the next until Doucoure can do a full 90 mins. Timber should be coming back soon too. We need to tighten it up and go from there.
Changing the formation is fine if thats what will work but Sage clearly doesn't. Therefore if we change formation we might as well change manager because Sage has made it clear that this is how we play while he is in charge. Glasner was the same. We have to accept he is the boss or move him on. You cant keep him in charge but ask him to play a way that he doesn't want. If you're going to do that you might as well have a yes man in charge while Parish picks the team.

I just want a manager who contributes to us winning games and getting results. A good manager would recognise the current tactics are a disaster and change them. If Sage won’t then he isn’t a good manager and he needs to go.

But if you're saying that he is what you get for that money, how can they do better? Surely you're suggesting they should have more money to spend which is on the people above them.
To clarify, there's a between the lines insinuation that the recruitment department doesn't know what it's doing and is overspending. Easy to spend someone else's money!

You could be right. On the one hand I'm frustrated he wont change things (he's not going to now). On the other hand I cant help admiring him for sticking to his guns. He believes in what he is doing (even if the rest of us dont) and he believes in the end it will come good. It isn't easy to have the courage of your convictions when all around you are losing faith.

Sadly I think his time is almost up.

Some chap has literally just messaged me :
"Pierre will still be in charge for the Coventry game on 21st November".🙂

I hope he is wrong because if Sage is still in charge we might as well give up all hope of staying up. As it is we already need about another 30 points which is a win every three games. Sage has shown no signs he can deliver that. We are getting worse in every department the longer he carries on.

I can see why we went for Sage. I can also see why it won't work. Surely everyone thought it was a bit of a gamble?
I remember discussing it with a palace supporting mate at the time. We talked about it for a bit and then he just said “it all feels a bit uh oh” doesn’t it. For some reason it just seemed like one that wasn’t going to work. What’s played out is sadly almost exactly what I feared. I’ll caveat this by saying that as a Palace fan of over 40 years I pretty much always fear the worst.

If we had started like the express train under Sage and been top 5 right now (perfectly feasible when you look at how he signed off at Lille) every one would be hailing Parish a genius.

Its easy to stand on the sidelines and point fingers. Parish had a lot of good reasons for going for Sage. Its a shame its not working out but its only Parish's fault in as much as someone has to make these decisions. Personally I'm glad its not me!

Total mismanagement by Parish. He is to blame. We are going down bar a miracle.
My theory that Parish is actively seeking relegation might seem a bit too conspiracy theory for some, but I think it holds water. The longer he retains Sage the further in the mire we sink, and relegation means he can put aside any plans for stadium upgrades. Maybe a new tin roof on the Arthur and a fresh splash of red and blue paint here and there, nothing too fancy. Sell his shares and formally step down.

I would say it’s not a conspiracy theory. He is just incompetent. We all knew we were going to struggle this season. Our collective intelligence isn’t high but appears to be higher than Parish and the board.

That makes 0 sense.

Stadium plans have nothing to do with the league we are in and SP is not even a 10% share owner.

He would want that stand built no matter the league it's part of his legacy.

People appear to have forgotten he has his job at the club because the others allow it if they wanted to they could get rid off him.

He would not want the club to drop it would reduce his investment and could cost him his job (I am not going to get into him being a fan or not)

it only holds water if you seriously think he wants to receive about 50% of what his shares are worth if we are in the Championship as opposed to what they are worth selling them whilst we are still in the PL

This. As a club pretty much our whole value is tied to premier league tv money. In the Championship we’d be worth less then the likes of Middlesbrough, Southampton, Birmingham, West Brom and Norwich.

We don’t even really have much in the way of valuable player assets as it stands. Only really Wharton who would go for big money thought we’d probably get a decent fee for Pino and Hendo. That’s about it. The only good news is we’d probably be able to keep a lot of the squad if we got relegated.

Sage should have been sacked today.
The fact he hasn’t been points to one of two things. One, we are waiting for the international break so a new manager has some time. Two, we’ve identified replacements but they don’t want the job. If it is the latter we are truly screwed.
