Man City found guilty

I don't know what the punishment will be but relegation to the Championship would not be enough. 9 years of systematic cheating should not be rewarded with a one season punishment.

When you read the scale of fraud it is breathtaking, this was no misunderstanding but a deliberate attempt to deceive.

The punishment needs to reflect the unfair advantage they had over those years otherwise Palace and all other clubs might as well do it.

Sky Sports speculated that four clubs (who else but Arsenal, Liverpool, Man U and Tottenham. No mention of Chelsea but they'll be sniffing around too) are potentially after £200,000,000 each in compensation for losing out on CL football as well as league placings, cups, etc.
We've been assessed as losing out on £27,333,243.

also, the £100+m that the epl used to fund their legal team is money that would've gone to all the clubs in the prem including us.
 
I can’t see Citeh being in the Premier League next season either by expulsion or more likely a huge points deduction. Assuming we’re heading for a difficult transitional season this could really help us with only 2 other teams being relegated. Hopefully we won’t need that to be the case but……

Except it's no longer fair in the Championship due to the parachute payments. There are huge differences in transfer spend. Millwall are one of the exceptions, doing pretty well on a tight budget.

I would add to the BBC report it's not only the impact of the players they bought during that period. Many of those players continued to play for City after the fraud period so their impact was ongoing.

It's a bit like the high jumper who take growth hormones. The benefit lasts long after the period when they were cheating.

And of course becoming a successful team attracted players who might not have signed for City.
 
It seems pretty clear to me, from reading reports and statements about this dreadful business of City's fraudulent finances, that their Abu Dhabi owners and their Board deliberately set out to break rules and breach regulations.

Thank goodness the parsimonious Mr Parish is in control of finances at our place.
 
As more detail comes out, it is clear City have going to have severe punishments; thrown out of the PL for sure; but to where? L2 would be fitting.

Anyway, silver lining, one less relegation place for CPFC to worry about lol

correct. A cabinet full of silverware ? is as tempting as a half-million quid to a drugs-dealer/money launderer..... when facing only a short spell in jail.

would you do a year in jail ? for half a million quid ? it certainly beats working in a burger-bar.

Citeh should be stripped of all their ill gotten gains....their silverware. Palace won the FA cup fair and square.....unlike whatever Citeh won.

Strip them of their titles but don't pass them on. Citeh don't deserve them but neither did their runners-up earn them. We simply don't know what would have happened had City not cheated. For example:
  1. Where would the players Citeh bought with dirty money have gone had they not gone to City? They may have gone to clubs that finished 3rd or 4th etc. rather than 2nd with a different outcome in League Table.
  2. What about the teams City beat in the cups on their way to the final? Might one of them have beaten City and then in the final beaten the team that lost the final to City?
  3. the whole dynamic of the Premier League would have been different and we simply don't know what would have been.
For me, the right thing is to:
  • Strip them of all their trophies up to and including last season
  • Leave all the competitions they won without indicating any winners with an asterisk explaining why for posterity and a reminder to future generations of the shame.
as for the main punishment, I will be surprised if they aren't expelled from the League and forced to find a league that's willing to let them join - National League North (if they'll have them) seems about right to me.
 
Just listened to a podcast with a sports lawyer. For what is worth he reckons the most likely scenario is a huge points deduction ensuring relegation with a big fine and lengthy transfer embargo. Something Citeh might accept after a token appeal. Expulsion too messy and could mean years of litigation if they are forced into non league.
Expulsion still a possibility though.
 
Very amusing seeing the meltdown of City fans on Twitter/X. They genuinely don't believe they've done anything wrong. They think no-one will watch football if they get relegated. Liam Gallagher seems to have authentically blown a gasket 😂

I’m caught in two minds here.
The problem with not passing the titles on is that the last 15 years havé been for nothing. Clubs have spent a fortune during this period and it will at least give them some sort of closure, if not idéal. If not they’ll be looking for a refund
