There's me thinking Palace had the Indian sign over Villa and it looks as if it was all the whole Glasner who did. Today's result.

As I said to a Villa fan at work that it's just the Glasner system defeats Emri's system every time, it's not bogey team at all. Rock/Paper/Scissors

They go int head to head, he's beaten to the ball, he snaps his foot down once he misses. If it was intentional he'd have kept his foot raised and that would've really hurt.

The only reason he got hurt was because he's another of these shinpadless players, they wear tiny kids ones to skirt the rules.

Well - it all depends what’s written in the contract.

I totally understand people want to give Sage more time, but at what point does the ‘good will’ run dry? Players don’t look happy, fans fuming and management looking ‘out of their depth’.

Lots of talk on this thread about Eddie Howe joining. 2011 and 2021 linked to us but didn't happen. Judging by those years 2031 is probably when we have to see. No way that he is rocking up to us anytime soon.If after 10 games the holes in the defence haven't been plugged then Sean Dyches phone will be ringing and Roy's zimmer frame rattling or Pards with his dancing feet.

There is no doubt that Sage has inherited a difficult situation, with most of the key players involved in our recent success either gone or, for whatever reason, disaffected. I am as bad as the next fan for being ecstatic when we win and full of doom and gloom when we lose.

But there are a couple of things about Sage which are making me uneasy, beyond the lack of progress in shoring us up defensively. My view is that for us to punch above our weight we need great squad spirit, and ideally a consistent team. At the moment Sage, presumably in the interests of establishing his authority, appears to be engaged in a disciplinary battle with his players. We have already had public criticism of McNeill and Guessand, whilst Mateta and Sarr have already made it clear that they don't want to be here. Today Canvot disappeared not only from the team, but from the matchday squad entirely, having been almost an ever-present since Guehi's departure. Whilst Osorio is new, where was he today ? Again gone entirely from the matchday squad, whilst the very unready / immature Gozo was included. Are Canvot and Osorio the latest recipients of Sage's discipline ?

I looked at the bench today and it was unncessarily shorn of players who could possibly make a difference in an attacking sense. Presumably Nketiah is injured along with Mateta, and Sarr's feelings are still smarting, but surely we can't then afford to leave Guessand and Osorio out of the matchday squad. Disciplinary issues or inconsistency, or both, I don't know, but for a squad with lots of new arrivals I get no sense at all of building spirit. Team consistency may take a little longer. But I fear that there are already too many players in the squad who are bubbling with resentment, and I am thinking the ingredients of great spirit and team consistency are already looking extremely unlikely for Sage's Palace. I hope I am proven wrong.

There's no doubt team spirit is certainly difficult to maintain when you lose games and ship as many goals as we are doing.

To state the bleedin' obvious if you want team spirit back, results have to improve.

JSL has found out where the goal is, nothing helps a striker like a few goals, Timber looks like he could be decent, Dacoure back give him 3months

Defence needs work and that takes time but we have some decent players.

Were we likely to win with 10men, probably not but we had some great moments

That was never a red card, I’m pretty sure we would have won this match if this hadn’t happened. We are not getting the rub of the green at the moment. I can accept the defending needs time to settle, but there are a lot of positives to take from the first 4 games.

I’ve never been a one for hiring and firing in an instance and Sage needs time to get a settled side in place. It’s making me wonder what disruption Sarr and Mateta have caused leading up to the start of the season, because we could have well done without all that?

I thought we was well on top when 1 up, needed a second, then we would have won comfortably.
The sending off was a killer.
Missed their second goal as was at the bar.
2nd half, showed loads of heart , Timber never stopped running.
Good finish from Larson.
I thought Fleming looked like a handfull when he came on for them.
Few of ours were exhausted with 10 minutes to go, so had to be replaced.
Thought Benitez looked shaky all game and he just watched the ball hit the crossbar and Fleming score.
Gutting , but showed some spirit to get back to 2-2, kahili should have made it 3-2 and it’s a different game.
Think our effort deserved a point.

Yes the biggest giveaway was Disasi's reaction. He knew he was off. I think it was more in the lazy/mistimed category rather than trying to really cause damage, but nevertheless it was a poor challenge and deserved a red. A big shame as the match could have been very different and playing with 10 men it's very hard to accurately analyse our performance.

That's one hell of a run of games. The management team will need to find solutions soon as too many negative results in there and the pressure will be high! I hope they can find the answers.

You gave us a tough game. I'm delighted to have won it at the end but would have taken a point if it had finished level. It's not fair to suggest the sending off helped us drastically but with one less Palace player on the field it did become more open and we could sense an opportunity.

I think 2 wins from 4 opening games back in the top level is satisfactory for us but you'll have seen earlier our defence certainly needs work on. Not only today but in the games before it. 150 million plus spend during close season and we bring in one or two defensive names to cover an already suspect area of the field and some (Town fans) argue they're already no good or nowhere near enough. Lots of attacking potential though, can't say we're inadequate for striking options.

You'll get your chance at Portman Road later in the season to make amends for earlier and in the meantime can continue on in Europe and make further trails on the continent. That's something a lot of other fans don't have or can only dream about or aspire to be.

Im worried that our defence looks weak. But I am more worried that Wharton one of our best players has looked like our worst player in all our games.

At least maybe we can have our best defender Tomiyaso play, if his knees allows him to play 3 games a week.

But yeah we would not have lost this game 11vs11. It was a close game even 10vs11.

That’s seven key players from our FA Cup winning team about 16 months ago that we are without at present for a variety of reasons.
Even Pep would struggle to deal with that, let alone Sage.

None of those 7 key players have been replaced by players at an equivalent level of with the same Premier League track record.

The team has suffered with a significant degradation in experience and quality.

This is not necessarily to criticise the club as there are reasons why we are without
some of those players which the club had little control over.
Nonetheless, the degradation is the reality the club now faces.

Opinions such as ‘Canvot has a higher ceiling than Guehi,’ and ‘we’ve replaced declining Munoz with a better younger prospect’ are all well and good, but it doesn’t win points or stop the concession of goals.

We should improve.
Players such as Wharton, Mitchell and Richards are better than they showed yesterday.
Sarr and Mateta will transform our attack if they can be reintegrated.

I do foresee a difficult season though because the team is no longer of the same calibre in terms of the quality of the personnel and also in the absence of a discernible structure or organisation.

After the poor run last season I thought that relegation this time round was a very real possibility, and you illustrate accurately why this may well be. Sage inherited a mess, with players leaving, players wanting to leave, lots of different players joining, and fixtures piled up thanks to added Euro competition.
Sorting out this mess will take time, the one luxury Sage doesn't have.
Poor planning from higher up has created this mess, but Sage will be the one to carry the can. It will be the same for any new manager, it looks a lot like West Ham last season. Funny enough they won the Conference Cup too.

Correct. It's similar to Richards being caught out wide on the touchline. Current team shape and organisation looks like nothing more than a game on a school playground. A shambles for which Sage is totally responsible.

He has only managed 70 odd games in his whole career one good season, its not enough, he will fail to keep us up, the other three i mentioned wont

94 games 54 for lyons 40 Lens got both teams to cup finals , pulled Lyons out of relegation , got Lens to 2nd place and won a cup , thats not one good season thats 2 , you would be saying why cant we get him to us to replace glasner , but you didnt spot him like most of us , so your on shaky ground there , he does change formation can see us going 433 , he will turn this round 👍🏻

This game basically turned on the sending off of Disasi. With 11 men, we would have won. Or a draw at the very least. That said, shipping 11 goals in 4 games is relegation fodder. We seriously need to address this and perhaps look to grind out a few clean sheets even at the expense of creating a few more chances. It’s all very well playing a high press and total football but this is the Premier league and you need Man City type players to make that work and we only have Henderson (injured), Wharton (out of form), Sarr (on strike), so little wonder that we are struggling. I also think that Martinez should have done better than to watch the ball hit the crossbar for their third goal.

At least we have a game midweek to try to reset and regather some formation, tactics and a clear idea of how we play moving forward. I personally think we should play a 4 3 3 formation.
