Who feels let down again

Ok....so after a bright start at Everton we ended up losing to our bogey team.

And last night when City upped their game we couldn't go with them.

But there were positives from both matches.

This start was entirely predictable. New manager, new players, and a disjointed pre season due to the World Cup.

If I feel any sense of being let down it's over Lacroix being allowed to leave without a definite replacement lined up.

Leeds away will be tough if we can't match their intensity, but I think there are points to be had at Fulham and home to Ipswich.

Agree, there has been some nice attacking play from us in the first two games, much better than anything we saw in pre-season, so to some extent we are seeing progression. I also like what I am seeing from the new players, they look reallly promising.
We obviously have a problem in defence and for me it's Canvot, he's just a kid and acts and plays like a kid. Hopefully, Disaisi in the middle and Richards out to the right will make us more solid and a bit more intimidating at the same time.
One positive is that it's happened early so we have plenty of time to put it right. Another is that difficult times can create a strong bond in a group of players and as long as they keep working harder for each other and don't let their heads drop we should be ok. Though they will need the fans to stay behind them for this to happen.

Our next 3 PL games are Fulham,Ipswich and Leeds.I cannot see us winning any of them, in actual fact it is the model of plausibility that we could be defeated in each of these games.I am far from confident we will defeat Middlesbrough in the League Cup.

We get in to Europe again with a decent team then we sell our best CB who still had a decent contract ,players seem unhappy and want to leave will sell some good promising young players and buy very average players ,we swap BJ with a worse player with massive loss of money ,HF call it a day like them or not they did bring the atmosphere to the ground.
What the hell is Parish and co playing at no wonder OG never renewed his contract he knew what was coming !

2 games ago we were winning a European trophy, just after that the vast majority of our team went to the world cup, our coach snaked off to shittier climes, unsettled our declining wing back and maybe a few others, we look to have done a very good bit of business in khalaili. Hopefully next couple of days we see a proper cb and cm come in and we can see what Mr sage is all about

During our earlier spell in the EPL we hardly ever sold our players, the various managers had to put together a team made up of judicious purchases and loans (and a couple of duffers) with the brief from Parish that Premiership survival is paramount. Seems reasonable. To cut a long story short it worked, worked so well in fact the through sheer hard work, luck, and smart scouting from then Director of Football Dougie Freedman we ended up with a half decent team. So decent in fact that it won a few trophies under a manager who wasn't keen on hanging around too long. Oh well. Naturally in the big money shark world other clubs became alerted to our players, Parish saw the opportunity to cash in, and here we are, back were we started. Enjoy the ride.

For the time being, yes. It's telling that only now that we have won a bit of silverware other clubs take notice. It didn't happen before, it's indicative of where we are in the food chain. The remaining player of special quality is Wharton, it would be grim if we were to lose him, Mr Sage would have nothing to work with.

We cant afford to pay Guehi, Lacrouix or Eze 200k+ a week. Wharton will go for the same reason no matter how successful Palace become. It would probably have helped if Sage had started in January like Glasner did to get him bedded in rather than now when the club are in transition. The only saving grace is that a lot of other clubs are in the same position. Any number of the usual mid table teams could join West Ham next year if things go Spursy. The Europa league at least will be a nice distration until February. And at least we wont get laughed at if we go down like Spurs will.

And they have already spent over 200m this window on 2 centre midfielders. Granted Bouaddi didn't play last night. But its good context for the bed wetters, took them €230m to assemble their midfield vs our €21m (Wharton + Kamada free)

You are absolutely right there, and it only strengthens the point I was making. Completely different ball-park to our's.

Perhaps I missed a zero off my valuation 😂 In reality I forgot for a moment just how inflated the market has become. Even one of their midfielders comes to half of that total!

Agreed. It's getting the right fee if a player is sold and how we use the proceeds to fill the gaps. We have signed several new players ths summer mostly for low fees, but its too early to work out whether they wll be any good and/or wll be a starter or squad player. Agreed. It's how the transfer sales are used to fill the gaps. We have signed several new players ths summer mostly for low fees, but its too early to work out whether they wll be any good and/or wll be a starter or squad player. I dont think we should sell to Forest unless EM drops his lawsuit.

Maybe there's something to continuity and stability in the squad. Something we're not able to provide. Ever really.
Every Palace team I can ever think of during my time, has been brought down by contriving to lose players. Usually cheaply, poorly and often against the wishes of the fans - more or less in their entirety. I've never got over Sansom. Although I have got over Wright.

I feel let down by Parish, which is not a thing easy for me to say, because of what i think he has done for the club, at the moment i fear he has took an unnecessary risk in appointing Sage. he might turn out ok, but to go from our No1 Target, Iraola to Sage is mystifying, bypassing Frank, Dyche, McKenna, Parker, even Southgate. i hope Sage is an inspirational signing, but i fear he wont be, fingers crossed.

Err…Iraola chose Liverpool over us. Doh! Frank failed once he stepped out of his comfort zone. The fact Brentford got better after he left is telling. Southgate simply is not a good coach and the others you mention have zero track record of any top league success except for Dyche. What on earth was the question if he’s the answer? Awful football. We are better than that. Have faith.

I for one am happy with our choice of manager. The list of others is, as you say, championship level at best.

I too have no issue with our new manager - our attacking play before the first goal went in, was good & there were decent passages of play thereafter.
We generally are poor starters & nobody will convince me that we will have inferior players than more than enough teams when the window closes to be at least comfortable again this season even if there is the odd change after today. As someone said on another post recently, Parish, for all his faults does react in adversity in the market.
