We've played a loan fee plus wages so he clearly will be a starter when he gets up to speed.

Richards at the centre of 3 CBs is not ideal, as Saturday showed, so he is not the answer.

Disasi in the centre means we have plenty of options either side. Canvot played on the left after MG left, so he can play either side, as can Tomiyasu. Richards is more suited to the right but has played left before. Add in Lerma and Mingueza. We have choices

We sold Jemide who played all pre season and last pre season. I rated him, left footed too. One of the best young prospects in the league. Fee was probably an old Mars bar.
Our judgement should come into question: Jake O'Brien, always looked absolutely fine. Sold for one million. We're now trying to get him for 40mil apparently.
Imray, clearly faster and more suited to wingback than our crocks. Five mil to Wrexham. Watch him either be championship player of the season or get bought by Liverpool.
Our buys of Johnson and Strand-Larsen - no explanation required.
Failure to recognise Sarr should have been renewed last season.
Selling Lacroix. Which we've already seen exactly as expected.
Failing to sort the Mateta situation. Letting it fester - which it has.

What will we do next and who's in control? We're like a team who has five year olds randomly guessing transfers for no real reason other than spending money. And our negotiations are at best amateurish. I've seen better negotiators when I use the automated checkout in the supermarket.

You have you view, which expressed regularly. Our transfer policy, may not be to your liking, but it has brought together a team, that won 3 trophies recently. PSR and UEFA regulations now play a big part in the transfer policy of clubs, if you get it wrong, you have to sell all your best players, as has happened to Villa and Newcastle.
Only the top 6 clubs can spend at random, due to the revenue they generate and pinch the other clubs best players. Its not a level playing field and is moving towards a European Super League, faster than people think. Palace to get any success is outperforming their standing by some way.

Agree completely. To get near to the 'big' clubs you need a huge stadium (+60k) with corporate facilities and then fill it each week. That and somehow manage to market the club far and wide to rake in more merchandise and commercial revenue. Manure, Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal have had large stadiums and wide commercial appeal for decades. Man City and Chelsea broke into the top 6 only because it was before all the revenue rules came in (and they broke the rules afterwards too anyway). Everton, Newcastle, Leeds and others missed out due to their decline in the late 90s. It has been about luck, timing and a bit of corruption that has cemented the big clubs finances/positions. If things had happened in a different decade it would have been a different story. No point us moaning about it now, we have to deal with how it is. And for a club like Palace that means a slow incremental build up of statue and reputation (until they remove the financial rules and the billionaires take over again). Until then success wont happen overnight. There may be the odd fluke like Leicester winning the league and Palace winning the FA Cup along the way. As long as the players put the effort in I am happy. They seem to have got it right the last couple of years. Getting rid of anyone who has the wrong attitude or wants away (Mateta can do one).

It just shows that if massive clubs like Villa and Newcastle can’t compete now, what chance have the rest of us got.
I think the super league has already started, they might as well re-brand the champions league ‘The European Super League’ now

Villa, Everton and Toon have not been canny. They’re not as big as their rivals and not as big as their fans think.

Competing for top tier players rather than developing them is a mugs game unless you win. Football is a business now. 😭

We got rubbish money for some decent talents - in my opinion. I could be proven entirely wrong. I also didn't think the fee was enough for Lacroix. Mainly to do with his value for us. Also I think the fees were far too much for, rather than Johnson as much, more Strand-Larsen. Looked like we were forced into it - by our own ineptitude and unpreparedness frankly.
I don't think many would disagree with me particularly.
Our transfer policy is not fully related to how well we've done. We managed to get together a half decent first 11 but, for reasons you describe along with reasons I describe, we haven't retained it.
Particularly, our early seasons in the Premier League cannot be attributed to transfer policy. Most of the time our cheapest players kept us up through a lot more grit and determination than I'm seeing from the current squad.

But of course I'll agree it's our best time. But of course, we could do a hell of a lot better. Some of our drama was entirely foreseeable. Yet, somehow we didn't see it coming. Most of the time the players said what was happening. I remember being so annoyed hearing about Eze talking to Arteta dying to leave. How ridiculous really was that, for instance? The Guehi transfer - he made a few comments we failed to notice. Mateta - come on need I say anything? Now Sarr. Maybe we've sorted it? Do we have a history of sorting it? Ask yourself.
I think it's right and proper to question our transfer policy. We seem now to have not noticed what we so obviously need. I hope we address it, I really do. But I have little faith in our current methods.
Is it that hard to find the best players in the Championship? Has Esse put us off? I'd stick with that kind of policy. Seemed our best results.

Championship has been good in parts but clearly clubs are not selling players readily. And we’ve done well buying abroad at points- Munoz? Doucoure? Lacroix?

We haven’t got great outcomes from PL of late. Was Townsend the last? No Henderson! Perhaps Sarr counts

I realise they often do charge quite highly - but it's still not crazy Strand-Larsen high for someone equivalent. I presume they wised up to nasty Premier League sides poaching their talent. Henderson's a funny one, I really thought it was too much and I was wrong.
Sarr, we seemed to chase for years. Eventually we caught up with him. Can we keep him?
Where did we buy Cabaye from? Was it abroad or Newcastle. That might be a decent example. With Munoz, that was a good one, a good price - we got what we wanted and it looks like we'll actually gain. So we do get it right sometimes. We might even make a dent in the Johnson losses.

Joachim Andersen and Jefferson Lerma would be two others I'd say were successful signings.

I read the Nathan Ferguson medical notes. It said he had a glossy coat, good teeth and a healthy tail. There were some concerns about his front paws but not unusual apparently and offset by a good muzzle.

I am beginning to suspect the medic wasn’t full qualified …
