The acid test of this deal is how much first team minutes he gets.

In my head, Richards/Canvot/Chadi/Tomiyasu should be ahead of him in the pecking order when fit and assuming in the right form / headspace.

Tomiyasu would be a good centre back in the middle of a three. In a back four then it is two from those four.

We also have Lerma, Mingueza and even Ozoh who have played there before. Granted in all cases this is not their most settled position.

So where does Disasi fit in?

From the form he showed at west ham and at the club previous to joining chelsea i would say that he'd be ahead of most of them players. We wouldn't pay his big wages if he wasn't coming to play most weeks.

I am sure you are right.

One thing it does suggest is that we are likely to stick with three at the back, otherwise three from Richards/Canvot/Chadi/Tomiyasu will not be playing if Disasi is a shoe in.

Obviously it all depends on how he actually plays, but I think we can assume we're getting him in purely because we see him as a starter. Whether he can actually play in the middle of a back 3 who knows. But from what I've seen/read he's a bit more vocal and a 'presence' at the back... Again, whether that's enough as I think we need a real leader and organiser back there but we'll see I guess!

He’s an option. A loan. It’s insurance.
 
The peòple who see Disasi as a bit part player better inform Sage.
He was quite categoric in his pre match press conference that the club wanted a centre back who was both a leader and one with experience of lots of Premier League games.
Whether people rate Disasi or not , he's the centre back the club has ended up with and he's likely to be heavily involved this season.

That’s right, I can’t believe anyone would think that Riad would be ahead of Disasi in any pecking order.
 
Can he bring leadership and quality to the HUGE void left by Max?

Time will tell - but I think this deal makes a lot of sense. Chelsea have a strange mentality towards big price signings (£45 million quid in this instance). I wonder if they decide Max ‘isn’t all that’ and sit him in the reserves for 2 years and give him the odd loan hear and there - would we all have forgotten what a brilliant player he was?

West Ham were much better when he played for them, the fans wanted to make the deal permanent (okay now that he’s coming to us some of them will say he was rubbish), but most importantly Nuno wanted to sign him. I think he has shown over the course of his career that he knows a good player.

I think this will be a really good signing for us.

Looks as though it is.
If he comes I really hope he shows some dominance in the air -for some reason our defenders are reluctant to attack the ball. Maybe something to do with the preoccupation over possession but sometimes we just need to get it clear.
