Trepidation for the 26/27 Prem season ?

We won’t be top 5 or bottom 5 where we finish in between depends on not selling Sarr or Mateta and how good the manager is. I don’t see too many leaders in the team that’s one of the reasons we must keep Mateta. I would make him our captain.
Mateta is not a leader by any stretch of the imagination. Important though he is.

Neutrals are really getting carried away with putting down our chances this summer. Just lazy, ain't it
I suspect they might have concluded that we have appointed an inexperienced manager, we have a proclivity to lose top players, some of the signings thus far in the 'Window' are perhaps not 'Oven Ready' for the rigours of the PL and of course we are burdened by the additional games in Europe.
Perhaps this is their thinking, I am only engaging in speculation.

Not lazy, just opinions, our league form wasn’t that great last season, new un-heard of gaffer, losing two of the best defenders in the division, European distraction again
To emphasise the points raised I understood we took 19 points from the last 23 games of the season and were the third lowest goalscorers in the league. The European win masked a poor season

We need a considerable improvement this season and with a new manager and a number of new players new to the league we have it all to do.

I concur with these sentiments.

I think our upcoming season is a bit of an unknown. On the one hand we have an untested manager in the Premier League and we have lost a key part of our defence in Maxence Lacroix. Our defence was actually pretty good last season, we just couldn't score and undoubtedly had a poor domestic season.

The pre-season also hasn't been the best, with the team all over the place due to the world cup etc. Add to that a European campaign, this time at a higher level and I can see why some supporters would be a bit apprehensive to say the least.

Then on the other side, I don't believe that we are one of the worst three teams in the league and nine other Premier League teams also have a new manager to bed in and I also believe that our summer business has not been to bad, with little outlay we have some good signings, on paper...

In terms of our new manager, I really like him. I watched his press conference and he looked confident and seem to know what he was talking about.

The Everton game although not season defining is IMHO really important. we need a good start to give us some belief. If we suffer at Everton it will be hard to get rid of the doom and gloom.. Nervy times...

I choose to be optimistic although I really don't know how this is going to turn out. I am really looking forward to this season though...

COYP....

I would not be surprised if Nottm Forest finished 8th and I will be surprised if we end the season as high as 11th.
I don't see Forest as 8th but it's all opinions at the moment. I have us more down in 12th - 15th personally so agree with you there. There are also a load of predictions of Spurs finishing in the top 6 - or higher. I don't see why that would be likely. Although they might finish the season relatively strongly. When you consider it even top half would be good for them. There are a few unknowns this season. A lot of new managers and a lot of new players. We're one of them. Can't see past Arsenal for the title - solid in defence, decent in attack. I can imagine a Liverpool improvement from last season. I had the feeling Salah had become a negative influence in the team.

It didn't just mask it, it caused it.

This season we are not alone in this predicament.

A quarter of the way into the first game of the season and I'm getting more relaxed. Coventry look very open and prone to mistakes

we are toothless in front of goal. Or as Eagles, clueless and Clawless. No talent, no talons.

An inability to score has plagued us. Since at least Last Christmas.

The conclusion that I’ve reached is that the season won’t start properly for us until the transfer window has shut.
At the moment the squad is unsettled with uncertainty around Sarr, Mateta and Munoz, new players arriving, and probably a few still to come in.
After the window is shut we’ll know exactly where we are - who’s gone, who’s here - and that clarity should enable Sage to plan around his available resources without thinking , ‘well he may not be here next week.’

It’s far from ideal , but it seems the same every season.
We are not a major player, and there is the ever present risk of a big club seeking to take one of our key players right up until the last minute of the window.

I have to agree with this, it will take time for the team to gell after a very long winded World Cup where we had the backbone of the team away on international duty. With this and a new manager as well, not ideal and to lose Max our stand out centre back has put us where we are!

This seems to be happening to us on the eve of every season now and it causes us problems!

The problem is that if we lose 2 of our most important players before the window shuts its a long way til January.

There's been rumours for over a year of all three looking to leave, so its not like we haven't had time to prepare. Looks like we've got a back up for Munoz but the other 2? Where are our goals going to come from?

I agree, but that can't be ruled out.
So far as I'm aware we haven't been linked with strikers this window, but we have with other wide forwards.
To lose Mateta and Sarr is to lose 30 plus goals a season from the team which we could ill afford, as well as the thrust and power which they bring to the team.

I remain unconvinced by Larsen as a replacement for Mateta, at least in the current system.
He may do better under a different formation, 'may' being the operative word.

The lack of goalscoring potential in the team ( we were 3rd lowest scorers in the league last year) is why I think the main focus has to be on organising a mean defence capable of obtaining clean sheets.
