Shearer has long been the worst of pundits when it comes to defending the modern form of diving. Call it 'initiating contact' or whatever you like, it's cheating by throwing yourself to the floor in the pretence something has happened to you. It's a c**** trick, and England has become it's home, both at club and national team level.

I was fascinated by the Embolo sending off in the other game. Quite clearly an act of shameless cheating. When called out for it the player was outraged and devastated, but not at his own behaviour and it's consequences for the team. He seemed genuinely to feel the victim of an unbelievable miscarriage of justice.

That's the state of modern footballers. This form of cheating is so hardwired into them that they can't even see it as wrong.

I find it really hard to care if England win when I see Kane diving around everywhere, rolling around holding his head. What a c***.

Still, it's no wonder he does it. He's never known any different and never, ever, been called out for it. And he won't all the time dickheads like Shearer are left unchallenged on TV.

Absolutely. The expression "entitled to go down" should be limited to more social occasions.
Footballers are hardwired to "look for an advantage" (cheat) nick a few feet for a throw and have an inability to put the ball down in the right place for a free kick or a corner - I'll put this down an inch away from where I'm supposed to then over hit it by 5 yards.
A lot of the exaggeration (diving) is excused as a way of bringing things to VARs attention which is a bit ironic but referees have been less easily conned up to now in this World Cup.

Tuchel singled Bellingham out as one of the few starters that was any good, I was surprised he was quite so peeved.. but he gave it all on Saturday, and he wears his emotions on his sleeve. sometimes good and sometimes bad.

Our general issues are that we have no imagination or movement, and we play a brand of safety-first football which is as dull as unbuttered toast. Henderson and Rice are solid in the main, but offer no forward momentum. Passes into bellingham or kane, invariably come straight back. No pass and move, no 1-2's and very few players attempting anything for fear of losing the ball. Our plan-A is get it wide to players wholly incapable of an end product.

Kane has mentioned 'hero moments' on a few occasions now as if it's a way to win tournament football. Yes you need some, but only when you are in a hole. We are always in a hole.

Positives are that we kept them pretty quiet and are defending OK as a solid unit, especially when our backs are against the wall - and we know at Palace how important that is in tournament football.
Tuchels Subs almost always affect the game. Richards and Spence both came on and injected some energy and momentum, we looked a better team after the break (just), and we are finding a way to win.

Argentina is a 'watershed' moment. Win, and the 'cant beat the 1st decent side we face' argument is off our back. Lose and there's been no real improvement over Southgate (in fact to this point, GS's results and performances were better).

Can't agree on Richards 'injecting some energy' though. I didn't even know he was in the squad! (I'm assuming you meant 'Rogers'?).

I share your concerns about the pairing of Rice and Anderson.
The question for debate is whether it would be in England'as interests to only play 1 of these players and have a more creative force in the 'Engine room' next to him.

Don't you get caught up in misnaming people, I'm assuming he means ANDERSON, as one Henderson is our GK & the other Henderson has a broken arm.

My comment was based on a Rice and Anderson pairing.
I even mentioned Henderson (Not Anderson) in my reply !! Now corrected.
I have had a 'Senior moment' and given my age (73) such moments are appearing with increasing frequency !!

Remember Rattin, the Argentine centre-back sent off in the defeat by England in 1966?

Died recently, aged 89.

Apart from his physicality, actually a very good defender.

Sir Alf Ramsey referred to them, very unforunately, as 'animals'.

FIFA allowing them to wear black armband, denied France the same, is it to provoke us?
