An African team to win the World Cup ?

So far no African team has shone, Ivory Coast were very lucky against the Ecuadorians.
Morocco looked good as well; I'd say they are the most likely African team to go deep into the competition this year but saying that some of the results are unpredictable so there might be a 2002 Senegal style performance from someone.

Congo have definitely improved since their last appearance in 1974 when they were called Zaire, premier league players who probably had never been near the country until they were called up helps I suppose 🤣

Talent wise they could but structure wise it would be very difficult and unlikely to happen for the foreseeable future.

You need a league that can afford to keep a lot of the talent rather than it going to Europe and elsewhere.

So the probability of an African country's team winning the world cup is unlikely while Africa remains poor....Personally I'd say Nigeria has the best potential.

And I don't see poverty in Africa changing.....the continent has been given trillions and most of it was wasted due to corruption.

But the physical talent is there to do it.

Does France not count as an African team ?

Yes, but my main point stands. This week a French-african team beat a proper African team. Not fair.

Reminds me of the Romans. Romans using brits to subject the rebels in the Middle East. And then using Middle Easterner soldiers to attack Queen Boudicca.

Every African (and irish) team is now a B team. With the big European football-powers rigging the game.
So, including Brazil & Argentina , the same old ten countries dominate the World Cup.

The ancestral homelands stay crap. Homelands of Zidane, Mbappe, Olise, Harry Kane & Declan Rice. Wharton stays on the sofa while some donkey starts a game in the WC.

Isn’t Wharton simply a northerner by ethnicity?

In answer to the OP yes if they have the referee they had in tonights Czech vs South Africa. I only watched the last 10 minutes but the ref gave a penalty to South Africa for handball which was a joke.

With friends like that...

Turkey are crocked. Germany go from strength to strength.
The likes of Ozil & Gundogan.....wear the germany shirt.
Another great football nation gets short-Changed by FIFA.

Isn't it a good thing? That immigrants integrate and adopt their new nation?

People would be complaining much more if they insisted on representing the country they had left behind.

I hear you. And you do have a valid point.

My point is that the origin-nations are engineered to always fail. Zidane for Algeria being illustrative of a much bigger malaise.

Imagine 11 zahas playing for Ivory Coast, instead of either....... a) spending the WC on the sofa or ......b) playing a constantly weakened national team
