How do fans see next season unfolding.

I am from the Willo school of optimism and I think next season is our highest chance of relegation for many years. We must retain Wharton and Sarr and strengthen in defensive midfield as well as find another high-quality attacking option. We have been one of the worst 3 teams in the PL for some time now, though I am sure the additional European games have had an impact on this. The next manager has a really challenging job to do. Things could improve though...Pino could develop into a very influential player, Johnson could rediscover the form of his youth, and Doucoure could return at the standard he achieved pre-injury, but these things are deeply uncertain. Obviously I want us to win the Europa Confernence, but Europe next year will make the PL even more tricky. But I am a glass half-empty guy !
As Willo would say, "we are birds on the same twig". This summer's choices both manager and player wise are crucial. If the club make the wrong choices we will be in the proverbial come next May.

I think the right appointment will see the club continuing to grow its profile and progress as a club.
Players will go and sadly we have to accept that. But, if we maximise the selling price and reinvest shrewdly (as we have done very well when Dougie was dof) we can be even better than we have been this season.
This is why the appointment of our next manager is SO important. For me - He must have experience of the Premier League and know the players he wants to bring in but the club HAS to back him from the get go.

If we play the type of football Bournemouth fans have enjoyed over the last couple of seasons- I will be very happy! 🤞

Can’t see tight arse Parish Lessing his grip on the purse strings - the last transfer window was a total panic buy ( very much unconvinced of the 80m spunked away !)

If we should win, Parish has a whole summer to get better players in - meaning higher transfer fees and higher wages !!! ( just like last summer !!! - and we all know how that went)

Please prove me wrong Mr Parish.
Up the palace.

We've spent a lot in recent times. Have a squad full of internationals. And i wouldn't describe the window as panic buys. (not living up to hype is a different thing) Not sure the need to dig out Parish?

World cup summers are always tricky for recruitment.

We have spent but you cant stop when it comes to recruitment.

Looks like we have 3-5 people out of contract who really should not be getting new offers people like Lerma/Clyne are done they offer nothing now.

Mateta will still need to be sold

Wharton & Munoz will be on on the list for going.

We are already lacking in fair few areas.

I expect we will look at players from the teams being relegated.

Spurs have a higher facility fees figure than Brenrford that has nothing to do with their league position. Just add the two merit columns together and you will arrive at the correct figure for how much you get for each position. I really can't explain it in any simpler way
Right, I see. I think.

Surely though, the facility fee is what it is? Spurs were always likely to get more than us, for instance, so presumably if palace are weighing up the financial benefits of chasing 12th over resting players to try and win in Europe and finishing 16th, they have to factor that in?

In any event, what strikes me remains how relatively little we make from either a higher premier league finish or from Europe compared to the cost of a squad built specifically to chase either.

Even if the benefits of finishing 10th instead of 17th are as great as £19m or so (contrary to the BBC report) that's still only one Canvot. Which is to say, a player you can afford with the money you make from a much higher league finish isn't likely to result in that type of difference on the pitch, and the cost of players likely to make that sort of difference is greater than the reward!

I remain convinced the same is true of Europe. A couple of different articles (including one from the uefa website) say the prize money totals circa £20m for winning either the conference league or the Europa league. As others have said on here, there are extra gate receipts and advertising etc, too. If palace make, say, £1m per game that's still only £7m max if they go all the way to the semis. Maybe we could round it up to £10m overall as I'm not sure exactly what a home game is worth to palace. Either way, that's about £30m max made even if we win the thing. Then, as others have also said, subtract player and staff bonuses, travel and accommodation costs from that. Again, even winning a European competition is worth about one average good player, and that's by our standards.

Our highest finish in the premier league is 10th. Most teams find they drop a few positions in the league if they go deep into Europe, either because of fatigue or from resting players to chase glory.

My original point was that I'd be happy to finish 17th and chase the cups. That's based on glory and excitement rather than finances. Depending on which source we use to do the sums, Europe is either worth a bit (£15m max) more than a higher league finish, or (as you say) there isn't even that much in it.

None of this suggests the club could ever realistically build a squad able to compete well on both fronts, as neither pays enough for that.

I'll tell you what I could see happening next season, us being in the Europa League having won the Conference thingy, playing against some fairly modest opponents but also against some fairly famous and good sides. We will get at least one big, historic win against someone genuinely big. And struggle in some other games. End result: Knocked out in the play off stage, if we even get that far. End result of this end result: Playing league games on Saturdays again, with a squad that is no longer overstretched. This suits everyone. We have some happy memories of our continental exploits but, for us, Europe is over. We can go back to what we know and can afford, which is domestic stability. The warm, familiar embrace of 12th place beckons.

Many of the concerns about our squad size, quality, and depth are related to the extra games Europe imposes, but that's a temporary state of affairs. If we are in the Europa League next year then we should of course give it our best go, but even then surely nobody on here expects us to win it, or to win the FA cup again soon?! Its not like we expect to become a fixture in European football now.

If, this summer, we somehow build a squad capable of being competitive domestically and in Europe we will simply end up with too many players the year after, and the year after that, without even the modest financial gains Europe brings. Overstretching in this way makes little sense. We just need our usual domestic squad to handle another 8 or 10 games, including foreign travel on 4 or 5 occasions, without imploding domestically. Like they did this year. And, we just need them to do it once more, and then not again.

Winning the Europa League brings in double the Conference League ie £40m plus £30m for getting to the Champions League. Many hurdles in the way but some amazing places to visit if the draw comes good.

We are in a position where we could do a “Wolves”. Having survived selling one batch of key players this season it is inevitable that the next batch is about to be sold. So we are in a difficult situation which could lead to relegation.
The appointment of the right manager and coaching staff along with replacement players will help us avoid the drop and until we know the full picture of what we are starting with at the beginning of the season it is difficult to assess.
We are however in the batch of teams that could be relegated. COYP

it's Palace so there are always going to be shaky moments in any season. It will hinge on who we get in as manager, when we get them in, what investment there is for the squad and whether we play in Europe. Assuming we get the right manager in quickly, I'm really optimistic about next season. By that I mean that I'd consider a league finish 10-15 as good if we end up playing in the Europa League. That on its own would be an amazing achievement - European football two seasons running. If we don't qualify for Europe, then I'd like to see us pushing for 8-12th with fewer competitions to focus on.

We will lose key players if we get the right offers, we have to do this to bring in new talent. Mitchell, Wharton, Sarr, Munoz, Lacroix, Kamada - at least two of them won't be with us next season. We also need to get rid of some dead wood - Hughes, Lerma, Clyne, Johnson, Nketia, Sosa and many more just aren't good enough.

Crikey it feels like a number of the doom and gloomers who were saying we were not safe on 43 points are already gearing up for the worst next season.

I am very hopeful for next season with or without Europa League. I still doubt Iraola will come to us. Only if we get Europa League might he come and if he does I would opine that he'd have assurances about improving the quality of the squad. I'm personally doubtful though that he will come to Palace but all credit to our owners for going for him.

I would be more concerned about going to the Europa League with a manager with little experience, say a Robbie Keane (with no disrespect to him). It'd feel like we'd just be trying to muddle through and spend the minimum, which it felt like until the Jan transfer window this season where we panic bought.

And yes I can see two or three going Kamada definitely, Mateta almost certainly and possibly Wharton or Lacroix but the latter two would bring in substantial money. Plus some fringe players to go also. Sure we will sign Guessand and probably for less than the trigger in the loan agreement with Villa plus a few others. Plus I think we've yet to see the best of Pino, Johnson and maybe Doucoure to come back.

No Europa League and I think we will still have a very good first team squad without the European fixture pressure. We are a decent cup team. Take out Macclesfield (the mother of all poor performances) and we've reached the League Cup QF twice in the last two seasons losing to Arsenal away both times and won the FA Cup last season. A decent run in cups and/or league is certainly within the ability of our squad.

And what makes me hopeful is we've sort of been here before. Remember the season where so many first teamers were out of contract? We survived that and can do so again.
