How do fans see next season unfolding.

I have never said this about a new season however I am concerned about 26/27. I look back at our league and domestic cup performance and it has generally been poor, particularly at home where we have previously been strong.

I look at our conference performances and that has been even worse and I think we have been fortunate to make the final and it has only been this which has papered over the cracks of our very average season long form.

I look at who is definitely leaving and likely leaving and the waste of money we have recently made on rushed signings and average loans.

I genuinely see us as relegation prospects next season unless we buy 5 or 6 decent players as I think our midfield and attacking lineup based on current players to be no better than Championship standard. I don’t see Parish buying this many decent players hence my worry.

For what it’s worth my advice is to live in the moment.
Enjoy the fact we’re in a European Final.
We’ve no idea what the manager or the squad will look like come August so pointless fretting about it now

Well i'm always worried about the dreaded drop but that's just me after so mayn years of pain (with limited ups) before this extended run in the loadsamoney league. Seriously though, of course I am hoping for success in Leipzig but the trouble is, that will probably bring a similar season that this one, which has on the whole been very disappointing after the first two months. Also, without winning the Conf. League the short list of possible new trainers might well become very short indeed. One way or another, be it with or without Europe the squad will presumably not be string enough in depth to either meet the demands of Europa League or try to make a push forward in the EPL. Which leads me to wonder how negatively the transfer pot has been emptied after JSL & Johnson. Certainly one big sale must surely be required to balance the scales. As another poster already said, it's also no good just inflating the squad with a few Uche's. First things first, win in Leipzig, get a trainer over the line and review the situation. Hopefully though, not first in August.

I share some of your concerns however I do also think that European football takes it's toll on 'smaller' clubs and league form usually tails off as the squad struggles to cope with the extra football. Clubs who qualify through their league position are usually better prepared but surprise entries like us from a Cup win can find it tough. Add to this the debacle of last summer, we entered the season less prepared than most plus we then lost another star player in January.

Saying all that I'm still happy we got a good taste of Europe with hopefully more to come (despite as a consequence I'd say at least 50% of our games have been atrocious to watch).

The club now has a huge task to prepare for next season - find a new manager, a lot of new recruits with several first teamers likely to leave, all to be done in a World Cup summer which complicates transfer business and shortens pre-season...plus we just love to dilly dally.

Recent recruits JSL and Johnson are so far a big downgrade on other first team players yet we spent huge money on both. JSL I think will end up doing ok but we spent probably 25m too much on him. Johnson I'm yet to see anything from him which shows he'll be a success and I'm not convinced he'll add much even in a new system but we'll obviously have to wait and see on that. I'm also concerned that without Sarr this year god knows where we'd be, and our system currently suits him perfectly, therefore I can see a change in system will also dramatically reduce his impact... But these are all problems for the new manager to contend with.

In short, after a couple of very memorable seasons with hopefully a little more to come... After the huge upcoming off-season, I'll very much be recalibrating my expectations back to 'avoid relegation' for next season.

We have gained just 18 points in our last 21 league games - which is relegation form if it were to run into next year. The only reason we haven't faced a scary relegation battle this season is that we collected 26 points in our first 15 games.

Add to this our recruitment in the last 2 windows:

Summer:
  • Benitez
  • Sosa £2m
  • Pino £21m
  • Canvot £18m
plus Uche on loan

January:
  • Johnson £33.5m
  • Strand-Larsen £45m
plus Guessand on loan.

That's about £120m spent (we got about £90m for our sales)
and what do we have?

  1. A promising youngster in Canvot who may one day be sold for a decent profit.
  2. As for the rest - very underwhelming for the £100m plus we spent on them.
This doesn't bode well for this coming transfer window as I can only see quality players leaving (Wharton, Munoz, Mateta and possibly Sarr) and a real worry about the existing group responsible for new players being able to recognize suitable quality for the Premier League.

Our new manager is likely to have his work cut out keeping us in this league.

After that doom-laden outburst, let's, as Neillo has said, enjoy the moment and let's win another trophy.

Each trophy we win increases our stock value which alone brings in more money , so value of winning is not just the prize money , increases sponsorship and everything that goes with a trophy winner
Exactly, What people also maybe haven't factored in what rewards are there financially from winning the Europa Conference League is a guarantee we go straight into the group phase of the Europa League next season without having to qualify. Thats another guaranteed £20m in gate receipts, prize money, sponsorship etc right there!

I’d take 100 million from City for Wharton, that should get us three good players…….and hopefully not three Johnson’s 🤣
I doubt Parish will let go of Wharton, he has always tried to keep our best players. Eze, Guehi, Olise and Zaha, contract clauses took Eze and Olise out of his control, although he was able to keep Olise for an extra year.
Our midfield is weak beyond Wharton and Kamada, Kamada is out of contract and will leave, leaving Hughes and Lerma, who are past there best along side inexperienced youngsters and Doucoure who is an unknown after being out for ages.

You’re probably right, I do like that about SP, he does try he’s hardest to keep hold of our best players for as long as he possibly can.

I'm always cautious about our chances. I've been around long enough to know that when Palace do well there's disaster just round the corner. So I think we'll be lucky to finish top 2 next season if our European campaign is successful. Don't hate me for this, but I don't think we will win the Premier League. Second is very possible. Would be surprised if we won the FA Cup, but maybe the League Cup.

agreed, but surely by winning competitions you sell more T shirts & merchandise ? the money for that can be massive. Just ask Leicester about the year they won the Prem......there were tw@ts everywhere wearing the shirt.
Even if you are correct and we shift more shirts, plus our general status improves, and all that stuff, I find it hard to imagine that we'd be significantly better off financially as a result of Europe. Even if we find five thousand knobheads who want to buy and wear palace shirts despite (or perhaps because) they've never actually been to Croydon, and we make as much as 50 notes per shirt, that's a quarter of a million quid. It's nothing.

The problem has always been that the financial benefits of taking part in the lesser European competitions, even if you do well, do not touch the sides of the costs of building a squad capable of doing well both in Europe and the league. That's why so many mid table sides have struggled with it.

I don't really mind if palace finish 17th if they have a proper go at the cups at the same time, be that domestic or continental. What's the alternative? Not to even try for a trophy but we finish 11th? Maybe 9th at absolute best?

Does anyone know how much money the club have or will earn from the EU cup run? Does it cover the difference between tenth and seventeenth Premier league place money?

A lot will depend on how well prepared we are for the beginning of the season. Hopefully a new manager will be in very early and can prepare probably for the start. Also if we win silverware in Europe that might help, like this season, and boost our early season form. Let's hope we can pick up form early, cos if we don't we will be in dire trouble. COYP !!

Tough one to answer this.
  1. First off I hope somehow that Kamada decides to stay, and Lerma agrees to a contract extension. I doubt whether JP will change his mind and stay but would be a brilliant thing if he did. Could we lose anyone else? Could Doucoure get back to his best form of 2-3 seasons ago.
  2. Will the club decide to cash in on Wharton if there is a big offer?
  3. I hope the new manager is Andoni Iraola, otherwise perhaps another European manager.
  4. I dont think the new manager will have a huge warchest after the £80m spend in Jan, winning the Euro Conf league would help in that regard.
  5. Hopefully the promoted Championship sides wont have as much to spend as the likes of Leeds and Sunderland and we will go back to the usual 0-1 promoted team staying up.
So many variables to consider right now. If we qualify for Europe again next season can see our league form being affected again.

SP said we make a bit from the Conf League the prize money is worth having. Europa Cup brings in alot more. I think its £2m for each PM place, so ideally we would have won the last few games and be in 6th place, that would be another £20m in the coffers.
