Winning the conference league is worth £19m. As others have said, you might get a bit more exposure and sell a few more shirts, which might make a couple of quid, but you've also got the costs of travel, accommodation etc.

The difference between 10th and 17th in the premier League is about £9m or so.

So in money terms it's better to win the conference league and have a poor domestic season, though Europe provides staggeringly small sums overall compared to the premier league.

The Europa League is worth about £21m if you win it, though if course the real financial gains come from qualifying for the champions league as a result. We surely wouldn't be amongst the favourites to win it, though. Let's say we do really well and get to the last 8. We'd make about £15m. One half decent player, in other words.

If we win in Germany this month then the beauty of it will be a trophy (albeit a Mickey mouse one in my view) and the hope of seeing Palace in actual, meaningful European competition next year, against teams we've actually heard of, from the get-go. Maybe we'll get a big, memorable scalp. What won't be happening is Palace moving into some new world where we can carry a big squad of good players. The sums don't work for that.

Europe = premier league fatigue for anyone outside the big boys. Always has, always will.

Winning a 'Mickey Mouse' European cup would be massive for palace.

This season palace played in a European cup and played against Dynamo Kiev, Fiorentina, Strasbourg, Shakhta Donetsk and as a result are in a final. Those clubs are historically big.

We challenged comparable teams so to call it Mickey Mouse to me is a disrespectful comment.. had we finished 7th, not winning the fa cup, this would be palace's biggest match in history... a shot at europa and what that brings.

It's an evolution, 10 years in the prem and now we are on the verge of a second season in a European cup.

Are you sure? I thought it was between 2-3m per position and the data i have seen for last year was Brentford at 10th receiving £29.1m and Tottenham (17th) £10.7m
 
I am from the Willo school of optimism and I think next season is our highest chance of relegation for many years. We must retain Wharton and Sarr and strengthen in defensive midfield as well as find another high-quality attacking option. We have been one of the worst 3 teams in the PL for some time now, though I am sure the additional European games have had an impact on this. The next manager has a really challenging job to do. Things could improve though...Pino could develop into a very influential player, Johnson could rediscover the form of his youth, and Doucoure could return at the standard he achieved pre-injury, but these things are deeply uncertain. Obviously I want us to win the Europa Confernence, but Europe next year will make the PL even more tricky. But I am a glass half-empty guy !

To me it's Mickey Mouse insofar as (firstly) it didn't exist a couple of years ago and was dreamt up apropos of nothing, meaning there is no heritage at all, and (secondly) the general level of the opposition is as low as it has ever been in a European competition.

As you'll probably remember or know, it used to be that the actual champions of each league made up the entrants for the European cup. The second place teams went into the uefa cup, and the cup winner from each country (back when domestic cups were fiercely fought for) went into the cup winners cup. As we know from painful experience, coming third in the league didn't get you in to Europe. In other words, the standard was very high across all the three competitions.

Now, the bottom of the barrel has been scrapped so deeply I'm surprised it holds liquid at all. The teams you list may have historical fame but they also often have a league one budget and facilities. That's why those famous names are in the same pot as Larneca, Shelbourne and the rest.

Most of all though, the games up until the quarter finals were largely awful, most of which is to do with the opposition being so bus-parkingly shite that Palace (Palace!) is both their mount Everest and their cup final.

I've enjoyed the last couple of rounds but I wouldn't want to be in it again.

It gives totals at the end, spurs (17th) made £127m and Brentford (10th) made £138m. So £11m difference according to that source, rather than £9m as per the BBC one

Spurs have a higher facility fees figure than Brenrford that has nothing to do with their league position. Just add the two merit columns together and you will arrive at the correct figure for how much you get for each position. I really can't explain it in any simpler way
 
Can’t see tight arse Parish Lessing his grip on the purse strings - the last transfer window was a total panic buy ( very much unconvinced of the 80m spunked away !)

If we should win, Parish has a whole summer to get better players in - meaning higher transfer fees and higher wages !!! ( just like last summer !!! - and we all know how that went)

I see it as a Saturday Swap shop some idle bodies will go out and new players in ,the new manager will raid his old club and the relegated sides will be prey for the Eagles as nature intended.

A realistic appraisal.
Conversely and sadly I don’t think Glasner will be taking Johnson, Larsen and Esse with him.
 
A new manager = can mean a complete overhaul in the infrastructure of the club…coaches, back room staff, players, playing systems etc.

As others have commented, hopefully in a couple of weeks our future will be less cloudy!

In the meantime, European success beckons 🙏
