Crystal Palace vs Newcastle match thread

Just cannot understanding the starting selection today, clearly and thank goodness the subs changed the game and big thank you to them for securing all three points. The selections bugs me, as the three points today were more important to the club and yet it seems OG preference is for the European games to boost his own cv?
In fairness, how it worked out looks like decent squad management. However, had we lost, it would not have done. Sums up management really

He needs to learn the Hughes & Lerma are pull on subs not starters

Johnson is a nowhere man

Munoz is not 100% just yet

The quality gap between Mateta and Strand Larson and between Sarr and Johnson is even greater than the price gap - just in opposite directions.
Mateta had the benefit of Wharton and Sarr coming on just before him, Strand Larsen had to play without them and next to no service. I'd agree that the difference between Sarr and Johnson as it stands is extremely marked.

I'm happy for Hughes to start but it needs either Kamada or Wharton with him. Lerma can't pass and doesn't have the best first touch. His strength is breaking up play. That is both of their strengths really. However, Hughes can pick the occasional pass and is the cleverer and busier player.

I'll take the win. A game only noteworthy because we managed to win after going behind. A rarity.
It kind of showed up the limits of our squad.

Mathematically safe? Don't know, but I think can relax.

I had a play about with the Premier League predictor:

I picked us to lose every game, Spurs, West Ham and Leeds to win every game, unless playing eachother (draw) and had us relegated on 39 points in 18th, 17th place was on 41 points.

Therefore a win today and we are well and truly safe.
We are safe.

Interesting dilemma. We are playing on a Sunday lunchtime instead of Saturday at 3pm. Half the players are, once again, playing a second game in two and a half days, the other half aren't in our first choice XI. Predictably, we look not at our best. The subs bench includes three or four players who would make us better than those who are playing. They aren't injured, but are not playing as the focus is elsewhere. Despite all this, folk are expected to pay good money to watch it anyway.

The reason for this wholly unsatisfactory state of affairs? Playing in Europe.

Why is playing in Europe such a priority? Because if it goes well, we can win a trophy and, critically, get to do it all again next year, repeating all of the above!

Equally cursed and blessed.

Yeah because we've been that great in the league any other season we haven't been in Europe. But to answer your question it helps us attract better players.

Sarr is currently one of the best in the league. Johnson, currently, one of the worst. We need, need, need and need to give Sarr a new contract.
That's not to say Johnson can never come good, but time is getting shorter.

Spurs mates of mine now messaging how they are trying to look at the possible positives of rebuilding in the Championship. How the mighty have fallen.

Biggest capacity ground ever in the second tier?

West Ham or Spuds, I don’t care which to be honest as long as one goes down.
I've seen and maybe contributed to mentions of new places to visit for the Cockerell! Just wish they had some bubbles to accompany them

Anyone still upset with the ref?
Thought he had a good game
Obvious shirt pull but often not given.
Hope it sets a new standard for argy-bargy in the box that has become a joke.

Got to admit we were fortunate to get the points as overall we were pretty poor.
