Crystal Palace vs Newcastle match thread

whew, hod did we win that one

Newcastle are a poor side now they are out of European competition ,for all the discussion about two games a week I think it actually suited them more than most .With nothing to play for they have lost motivation .
It didn't take a lot to put them in their place once we made the subs ,good team juggling from Glasner .

Hope the doomsayers are happy now we have 40 + COYP !

Mateta had the benefit of Wharton and Sarr coming on just before him, Strand Larsen had to play without them and next to no service. I'd agree that the difference between Sarr and Johnson as it stands is extremely marked.
I take the point about Mateta having better options with Wharton and Sarr on as well, but he did bully the Newcastle defence in a way that Strand Larsen could not and definitely gave us impetus at a crucial time. We now have game changers on the bench which has previously not been the case.

He needs to learn the Hughes & Lerma are pull on subs not starters

Johnson is a nowhere man

Munoz is not 100% just yet
Interesting comment. Yes, Mateta, Sarr and Wharton are useful players to bring on halfway through the second half. In that sense the Manager's squad rotation worked. If we'd lost, it wouldn't have looked too clever.

Strand Larsen and particularly Johnson are beginning to look like panic buys, especially for the sums involved. Then again, we were at a very low ebb and at least Strand Larsen provides energy and, more important, just the kick in the pants Mateta needed with all that A.C. Milan distraction. Stick around, J.P.

Nothing to do with being a doomsayer. If you achieve less than 40 points you run the risk of creating your own bit of doom.

42 points pretty much secures our lower mid table position. Every Palace fan should be happy and breathe a collective sigh of relief that the shenanigans of our manager and Mateta have not unduly impacted our league survival.

The Conference is the remaining challenge and then the wait to see who is joining us as manager what style of football he plays and which players stick with us.

Interesting 4 or so months ahead.

Let's all laugh at Newcastle nah. nah, nah....

We didn't deserve to win that but as it's them I will happily take it. They are one of those teams that always seem to get dodgy decisions against us. Also I don't like Howe.

OG got lucky, it's not often we put on a lot of subs and change the game.

We done lad COYP

Back from birthday celebrations so I have no idea what happened in the game but what a great result

Beat West Ham (and while we are at it win the game in hand against City) and we'll be looking good in the league again

Just cannot understanding the starting selection today, clearly and thank goodness the subs changed the game and big thank you to them for securing all three points. The selections bugs me, as the three points today were more important to the club and yet it seems OG preference is for the European games to boost his own cv?
Err, didn't we both🤔

we were slating him early on this season for not rotating players, now he does still gets slated. Makes a change for us to have decent players to bring on to try and change a game.

Mateta contract expires in June 2027. He is paid 50% of what Larsen gets, so £60k/wk compared to £120k/wk. Larsen cost us just under £50m. ( Johnson is on £110k/wk).
Larsen cost £48m. Mateta cost £9m. (Johnson £35m).
After today's game, our transfer policies and actions need to be thoroughly scrutinised.

I know 40 points is seen as the benchmark for survival but the reality is its lower than that .Looking at the table and fixtures its likely this season will be much like 80% of seasons when 38 would be enough
Even 36 is good enough more times than not (60%) though that number is certainly squeaky bum time .

Suffice to say I was happy when we got to 38 but am glad all over that we can all celebrate as one in whatever the rest of the season brings .

Have a drink on me

COYP!
