Crystal Palace vs. Larnac match thread

The weather played its part tonight and we just weren't good enough with the chances we had. I think we will nick it in the second leg. Glasner should have gone with SL and JP together upfront with Johnson and Mitchell crossing it.

Roll on next season with a new manager and a couple of new players.
I'm afraid that Tyrick, as great a defender as he is, cannot cross a ball to save his life.

Leeds will attack us which means they will leave gaps in behind. This will give us opportunities, whether we take them or not who knows. They definitely won’t play with all 10 behind the ball though.
I wouldn't bank on it. They have only won once away and will probably be happy with a point here and a win or two more at home to see them safe

Totally agree ... in a 4-3-3 system he is totally reliable, but a fish out of water in Glasner's set up. In fact it became clear quite early on that the system was never going to make enough chances to get a decent lead to take to Cyprus. Did Glasner learn nothing from the previous match against this team? I suspect the answer is that he can only coach one system, so the players cannot adapt when that system has already been sussed out by analysts and coaches alike. You could se this all night long that unless they made a mistake, we were never going to get enough chances to convert. Bloody awful watch, so predictable!

Sometimes I wish we would just take a shot outside the box. Anything can happen.
They do. High, wide and not very handsome. The funniest part of the game came early on when we were attacking down the right and Wharton, just outside the box, was yelling for a cutback as if he was Morgan Rogers. It finally came to him and he, predictably, pulled it well wide

I do find it hard people on here think a team that plays 11 defenders deep in very poor weather conditions is easy to breakdown , wind and rain is one of the great natural levellers in sport , it makes better teams struggle and lesser teams defend alot easier .

Soon as that ball leaves the floor your risking it , and today's ball is a balloon , just look at the ball when the corners was being taken it was moving before being kicked , was hoping for 2-0 but was happy for a draw in them conditions , Not sure if the 2nd leg will be played in Cyprus or Greece but I don't expect the same conditions ,

I listened to the radio as don't have TNT at home , but son kept me updated as well , was getting annoyed with Ambrose , Alright for him to talk about shooting he was a one off , not everyone one was as good as him from 35 yards , And kept changing his tune saying weather conditions are bad then started making statements that works in good conditions , that will teach him to support Spurs 🤣

We didn't have a clue how to use the players available

There seems to be degree of delusion about our European ‘adventure. ‘

The standard of football and our performances in general terms have been dire.

The only things we have learned have been pretty negative i.e we struggle to put away teams who play at a level way below the hallowed Premier League and none of our players have enhanced their reputations with their performances in the competition.

It’s a Micky Mouse competition that even a poor West Ham team managed to win, and I wonder if I’m alone in disliking the Thursday and Sunday routine which would be repeated next season if we manage to somehow win the damn thing.

You think Glasner would have learnt by now.

You don’t need to play 3 centre backs against teams with no forwards.

In Munoz’s absence it’s not a crime to play with a back 4 which would actually suit Mitchell and Clyne.
Enough of the experiments of Devenny, Sosa, Sarr and Johnson at RWB; it doesn’t work.

It’s also not a crime to play with two up top for certain games or for spells during games.
Larsen had one chance all evening when an early ball was played into him which enabled him to turn and shoot. Otherwise zilch.
Enough of players taking corners and free kicks which either fail to clear the first man or sail over everybody’s heads.
No width, no stretching of the play, no pressing, no pace (other than Sarr), no purpose.
Rant over.

Absolutely spot on analysis.. Couldn't agree more.

When I saw the line up I thought "he's at it again" - shoehorning players to suit his one and only style.
Larnarca were good and their goalie did his job, when we had the ball there was scant movement ahead, it was all very static. As I say, little energy. Poor effort.
I look forward to Glasner leaving.

Very little evidence on show of Glasner’s “experience” in Europe.

I would hazard a guess that Paddy could have steered us to a more exciting game and certainly no worse a result.

Glasner was presumably kept on despite his numerous interview gaffs to ensure continuity. Well if it’s continuity of that sort of play then there won’t be many takers for it. Terrible game.

Yeah got to say Johnson RWB got me , but I have yet to see a good game were there's cold driving rain winds hitting 45 , from what my son told me we done more than enough to win the game , just didn't gamble enough on running at the keeper when there is a chance of a cross coming in , since Eze went nobody seems to have a shot in them , myself with the wind have a go from 25 / 30 and forwards keep running in on the follow up just in case , looked at weather next week alot more like football weather , we're ever its played its

Not sure if mentioned already but all of their players were over 30 years old. I know I'm clutching at straws here but I believe they play on Monday before us again on Thursday. Hopefully they'll be a bit more knackered when we play them at theirs.

Larnaca are a truly awful team to watch. If everyone set up and played like that there wouldn’t be any football worth watching. I hope we get the job done over there just to show them that their negative boring approach doesn’t win you anything.

That was tactically baffling and disappointing to say the least.

When they sit in, we seam to completely freeze. Passing the ball slowly across the back line, over and over again. There are no real runs up top, no crossed from deep.

Biggest disappointment was Glasner. I just dont understand:

Why it took until 77th min to make the first sub
Why that sub was a like-for-like (and Larsson was doing fine given what he had to work with)
Pino gets brought on in the 87th min
How it warranted playing 3 CBs for the whole of that game

The rigidity is starting to blow my mind. And granted we didn't have tonnes of options, but why not stick JP on with Larsson. Why not take a CB off and put on Hughes or Pino. Just something.

Good post.

We now have pace in our team but seem afraid to use it. A few times last night Johnson put crosses into the box and they were causing Larnaca trouble. You would have thought that OG would be screaming at the players for more like that.

As you say JLS was doing fine dining on morsels. Gussand continues to impress me but the tactics were wrong last night.

Just have a bloody go.

It’s doesn’t take much tactics to have a go, that’s the frustrating thing about the team, too much sideways safe passing, we look laboured with no zip or intensity.
Most other premier league teams would’ve wiped the floor with that lot, even spurs 🤣 they’re an awful team, but they do know how to park the bus and time waste, I’ll give them that
