Crystal Palace vs. Larnac match thread

just read in the BBC comments that the value of our team is £300M and theirs is £4M - does say something about how we overrate our game - Larnaca defended extremely well, Wharton was looking for spaces that didn't exist - either we had to play with more variety in our approach play or more subtlety and accuracy with the final pass. These European sides play with an accuracy which we don't see so much over here, the way Frederikstad spaced their defenders to stop Munoz, how Mostar could find space breaking with two of their attackers against six of our defenders, and how Larnaca consistently intercepted our final pass and denied us options. We're better away and on the counter ... definite case of first goal wins out there, and you have to fancy us for pens but I'm sure they'll have ample technique too.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think we struggle especially in wet weather?

The first half of 2025 was especially dry, and we had our purple patch then with only 4 defeats.

In September the weather started to deteriorate, and shortly afterwards, so did our form.

It would be interesting if there are any nerds who have kept records of the weather during each match who might be able to work out if results are worse in wet weather?

Part of our problem in Europe this season is that the conference is such a two-bob competition. So many of our games are such a mismatch on paper that the opponents don't even try to make a game of it. I know palace could be better at breaking down stubborn opponents but you see so many international games like this, and they are so often turgid. It's not proper football.
Chelsea didn’t have an issue with it.

Not a great game, but I think we did alright in abysmal conditions against a very solid defensive unit, (only one goal against them through the league matches), who definitely didn't seem too bothered about making it an open game. Their goalie was excellent in the first half when we had our best chances. As for us, I don't think anyone had a bad game, just that nobody could make the difference. Guessand, was for me, our POTM as he was constantly on the move, looking for the ball and trying to create. I thought we saw a lot more from Johnson in the RWB position. On to next week and hopefully a more open game, though I believe Larnaca will play the same way.

I suppose I should give Larnaca credit for how they played. But my thoughts is that yet again it was how Glasner set us up and didn’t have a clue how to change things. One obvious change was seen all the first half with Johnson awful at wing back, unable to take players on or put in a decent cross? Late on Sarr was put in that position but we never had a chance to make that work. We moved the ball so slowly from the back and from side to side without any quickness to open up Larnaca. Surely chucking in the ball quicker, even if the move breaks down would create more chances for us and make Larnaca make mistakes. Think there keeper had one decent shot to save - Awful!

The weather played its part tonight and we just weren't good enough with the chances we had. I think we will nick it in the second leg. Glasner should have gone with SL and JP together upfront with Johnson and Mitchell crossing it.

Roll on next season with a new manager and a couple of new players.

We can't be.
Fiorentina will walk it.
If only. On paper (and at the start of the season) I thought we'd have a decent chance, especially after underperforming in two finals and a semi.

This season has been a disaster for a number of reasons, on and off grass!

Strasbourg, Rayo Vallecano and yourselves I would mark as favourites too.

Fiorentina have heavily rotated and played mostly reserves in Conference games and have only scraped through once some starters have come on as subs. Priority is ensuring safety from relegation but no doubt we'll go full strength if we make the QF onwards. Would love a trip in April down to Selhurst Park if we both make it!

I mean ‘Spring time Eze’ was a thing but was it just him? We definitely have had our ‘purple patch’ collectively in the Spring the past three years. That’s what I am desperately clinging to when we go to Cyprus anyway.

I'm hoping if we can somehow win this poxy tournament of non football the next manager will have the the book on smashing these teams in his back pocket .
Glasner just believes his way is the only way when its been shown 7-8 this season against lower level teams that it is not .

The question now is will they come out of their defensive block at home or will we have another frustrating night ? It wouldn't surprise me if we gave them a spanking in Cyprus even though it looks like their best chance of going through will be if they play for penalties
If we do win it, we’ll be in the Europa League next season, where we should have been this season if not for the Swiss bureaucrats and a certain Greek mobster. We wouldn’t face so many anti-football sides in the Europa League.

It is ironically a competition that’s more suited to Glasnerball because teams actually play the game more and we’d expect to be the counter-attacking side in most fixtures. No coincidence that he’s won it already before.
