Crystal Palace vs. Zirinjski Mostar match thread

We made hard work of beating a very poor but stubborn team. Two bits of quality made the difference.

We must be more clinical. We don’t seem to be using Munoz as we did and this ball through the middle thing is a bit weird.

As I predicted, Guessand is a player.

Obviously no sustained demand for increased capacity at Selhurst
That won’t apply to season tickets. The problem is the cost of single games and TV coverage. Some fans don’t care much for European games. It’s not just us.

I think we’re getting a bit more European savvy now, we’ve learnt a few lessons on our journey so far. We’re playing against some horrible niggly cheating play acting poor sides, but tonight we didn’t let them rattle us and plodded on with the job. Not a classic, but job done

Since he has returned from injury Munoz has not reached his best form yet. Doing the basic's fine but the maveric stuff that set's him aside from most players has not been on show. I feel this maybe down to team orders but it is not helping the supply line to the front players. The victory though was deserved - patient and unspectacular and the game only got going in the last 10-15 when Zirinjski tried to get the goal back.

I think as a team last night it was a 7 , we actually looked like a team for most parts ,
Pleased for Canvot some good carry and defending , Sarr was well off awful header and 1 on 1 , Munoz still coming back think after utd game he should be better , all in all I stopped hiding very early in the game happier COYP

Indeed a deserved victory against a limited team but once again our build-up play was far too pedestrian and in general it was easy for the visitors to shuffle across and to limit our opportunities to create.Their 'Game plan' was to defend deep and hope to capitalise by a set-piece or a mistake.
Apropos our thrust from wide areas, Munoz has ineffective since his return from injury and in the first half Mitchell must have passed the ball backwards at least 8 times.
In to the next round, but the performance last night was uninspiring.I think I nodded off on occasions !!

I think Glasner said after the game that he has our wing backs sitting deeper in the last few games so we don't get caught in turnovers etc... it would explain why Munoz isint getting as far up as he once did.

But it didn't work did it we found a way to get round it hence 2-0 , its not about how wonderful our football is it about results and that's the bottom line

Just what you need, deep WBs and narrow wingers, against a team that are 38 divisions below us in world football, Tactical mastermind, Jeeez.

We won our last two games but the overall performance was dire in both cases.
Can't agree that last night was dire. Not brilliant but we looked more like a team and the players seemed to know what the plan was.

The opposition were duly set up in Roy mode, which is never that easy to break down.

We should have scored the 2nd goal a lot earlier with the chances we had.

IMO, overall it was a step in the right direction.

Of course we advanced into the next round, but I was not enamoured by a performance against a limited team. Ponderous build-up, passing the ball from side to side amongst our central defenders, wing-backs offering no threat whatsoever and they are supposed to deliver the width in the system. All very uninspiring and soporific.

I think it was an expected demonstration of a 1D style of play only slightly adapted for the opposition.

There's a wolrd of difference between the opposition last night and teams we face in the PL. Playing the exact same way is somewhat of an exposure of the manager's limitations.

What I hoped for did occur though - that was enough to see us through. If we face slightly more capable opponents, who the manager's tactics are better suited for, we may see us looking a bit more effective.

Our gameplan was still quite evidently focussed upon 'Glasner's way' and not particularly tailored for the opposition.

It was a comfortable win with the players barely breaking a sweat. One of the female pundits made a good point about Palace having to get more comfortable dominating possession in Europe. There were times when Lacroix and others tried to hit passes over the top or to JSL that were never on, thus conceding possession. It's not great from a spectator's point of view, but sometimes patience is needed.
