Crystal Palace vs. Burnley match thread

30 minutes of pass and move Palace at our best football and 2 lovely goals. Lose a goal against the run of play followed by a second from a clear handball and a third because we can’t defend set pieces. Lord knows what was said at half time but surely it wasn’t “play the second half at walking pace”. They needed a serious bollocking at half time and come out flying to undo the 10 crazy minutes but there was nothing, no movement, no running off the ball. Then the manager who is all about the system abandons it, takes off the players most likely to create something and throws on a bunch of random subs in the hope that we might snatch a point somehow.
A season that carried so much hope looks at best likely to end with us limping to safety. I wish it was over already.
This is my view entirely and I made my opinions known vociferously from my seat, coils of smoke rising from my head.
We conceded 3 awful goals but Burnley should have had another when Flemming shot high over the bar from a good position. The surrendering of possession by Wharton and the subsequent defending left a lot to be desired.

does glasner have any form game plan we ere 2-0 up and we do that. most managers would have us sat back and let them try break us down which would left them open at the back very pardew est 😡
Its not mitigation but given I can't remember the last time we were 2-0 up in a game it's probable the players couldn't remember either and so didnt adapt at all.

Also, I find Glasners frequent touchline arm windmilling (stationary if losing, running if winning) a bit confusing. Not sure if it helps the team.

but my point is that it's a waste having Hendo as a Captain, when captains are now allowed to speak to the Ref and can slow the game down a bit.

Picking the captain is a more interesting question, which I don't know the answer to. Needs to be a regular starter with the coolest head (not Lacroix, Munoz, Wharton). Is Richards captain material maybe?

When a keeper is captain a team is allowed to nominate an outfield player to talk to the ref during the game. I get the impression that lacroix is that man.

After the two yellows guehi would've had a word with the rest of that defence, we have now lost that leadership.

Disgraceful disorganised rubbish. Their goals were just crap and could have easily been avoided. They will still go down with their championship level squad and manager. What does that say about us?
After Macclesfield I was sad. After this, the sadness has turned to anger.
Several managers gone now but our idiot still there
I concur with these sentiments.
It is the model of plausibility that our supporters in the main have turned against Oliver Glasner.

Johnson 35m sicknote Nketiah 25m sicknote Franca 25m Pino 25m Canvot 20m.
120m on players who are either crap and will always be or players who have yet to deliver. Piss poor recruiting.

Johnson the most disappointing so far ,Nketiah might not suit the style but agree a lot of money and looks injury prone ,França not sure what was going on there ,Canvot has made a few really costly errors and has not got away with them ,but he will come good .Pino is at least trying ( maybe a bit to hard ) to make things happen .He should maybe try simpler passes than tricks and flicks .Come to think of it he he’s been average with some of the simpler passes aswell 😞
It’s a shame Doucoure has been out so long ,could have done with him in midfield.Especially peak form Doucoure .

Thanks i didnt know that.
'Nominated player to talk to referee' duly added to the 'things we are crap at this season' list

Indeed, what the f*** has happened to Johnson? I always thought he was a good player. There is no sign that he's going to do well for us.

Well, I don’t think any of us are feeling any better having slept on it overnight!

This result has really really bothered me more than any other- I think it’s the manner in which we threw it away, especially when the players know how important a game this was.

SP better have a bloody good manager lined up for next season to be so reluctant to pull the trigger on Glasner now. It can’t get much worse can it…….oh wait Wolves up next!

I've never rated him. I always thought he was championship standard at best.

when we were linked with him i wrote on here that he was on my list of my five "least favourite" prem players.

But putting that aside i thought it was a very strange signing for us when we play with narrow no.10's.

The worst part for me was the rigidity in the system, and lack of plan B And thats on OG.

First half showed that when a team comes to play our system can work really well.

2nd half showed its frailties.

Not enough movement off the ball, taking both our ball playing CMs off. And sticking with 3 CBs.

Why after 10 mins of the 2nd half, when it was clear Burnely were just going to sit back, didn't we stick Richards or Riad up top? Not pretty, but at least you are giving them something different to think about.

We showed our 'Frailties' 1st half when we conceded 3 goals in 5 minutes.
Our overall performance is cause for deep concern and a defeat against Wolves would be deeply damaging.I am certainly NOT expecting us to win the game.

There were so many things wrong last night and has been mentioned in this thread. One being Richard’s playing on the wrong side of the back 3. For me the problem lies more with our so called defensive two midfielders who last night didn’t help our defenders at all. Burnley sliced through them? I would start Hughes and Lerma for the Wolves game in that position and just perhaps they will be more solid. As for the conference league game start Wharton or Kamada with one of the two mentioned alongside them. It’s not just that being the problem but we need to sort that out before Wolves do a Burnley on us. Better still, get rid of Glasner today and hopefully the new man in will have a 3/4 man midfield?
Kamada can't be fully fit yet after only playing 15 min on Sunday after a lengthy injury so to start him was a big gamble and unnecessary.
Look at Munoz, only just starting to get back to his old self after his injury and he's been playing for the last month.
Whilst the defence looked solid on Sunday, albeit against a poor scum side, Lerma is vulnerable against pace and Richards struggles on the left.

Of the goals conceded, the first was a decent strike - it happens, but we should have shut up shop at that point. Instead we lose the ball cheaply on the 1/2 way line and suddenly Lerma is exposed. Surely Hendo could have done better too. It wasn't a great shot.
The third just sums up our defending all season. A pretty nothing corner really, headed by a guy who is not overly tall, yet it goes in after a comedy deflection off Lerma.
Defend the first ball!!

My plan was to sleep on it before commenting but as my incandescant rage stopped me sleeping, my plan obviously worked as well as the tactics deployed during the second half horror show. Now, my rage is still there but accompanied with a feeling of despair that comes with living with this club in my soul for nearly all of my 70 years. Like so many others i genuinely fear the worst, and yes it will be bad if we go down, because we have become so easy to beat for all the reasons so often alluded to here on this site. I cannot accept that our current squad is really worse than Spurs (especially with so many missing injured), Forest, or for that matter anybody in the lower half of the table. BUT, the issue is structure, tactics, motivation, and, pride. Developing that thought, whilst the sqaud names appear good on paper it's how good they are on the grass that counts and to this end i simply cannot see what roles Johnson and Guessard, for instance, are supposed to be fulfilling. What is their respective actually best position? It'S all so muddled...................just like this post!!! My excuse is that I can't think straight when i'm so sad.

Willo, I agree, that is exactly the type of match we do not win. When the opposition hasn't won for a lengthy period; when their strikers haven't hit the onion bag all season, there is a prescription. Namely, a visit to Selhurst.

As much as I loath Notts forest, the owner has a cut throat ability of sacking managers when there is a bad sign. Parish needs to get rid of Glasner. He’s a palace fan Himself so he must feel The suffer.
Losing to Burnley at home is a result that is end of the road.
To your point Mary Knickers has just punted Dyche.

I woke up this morning, after having this ridiculous football-related dream. That dream turned into a nightmare in under 10 minutes.
Just checking this thread again, in the forlorn hope it didn't actually happen.

Nope : 🙁
That's bad luck. I had the very opposite of a nightmare involving Halle Berry and woke up to find she's making me bacon rolls and is about to nip out to get me some fags so we don't have to stop on our way to the pub this afternoon.

A really bad night in so many ways.
We were rubbish.
The Manager does not care.
Kamada is a lazy player not worthy of one third of his salary.
Pino is waste of space right now.
Johnson is either no good or no good in the system that he is being asked to fit into.
Poor play/passing all over the field.
Wharton wants to leave and I do not blame him.
Munoz is a shadow of his former self - why?
This cannot continue - something has to change.
