Yeremy Pino

5 Goals and 5 assists (Transfermarkt) in 2410 minutes 33 appearances. Given he had no pre-season, was thrown immediately into 2/3 matches a week with unsettled players and a manager who doesn’t give a s**t I think he has done ok considering it.

Some on here don’t give new players any leeway when they sign. Sorloth was pilloried despite coming midway through the season, having Roy unhappy at his signing and starting only four matches before being assigned to the bench. As I recall it Glen Murray, Andy Johnson, Attilio Lombardo, Julian Speroni and many more had slow stars to their time at Palace.

It is worth noting that the idolised Jordan Ayew’s best figures were 11 goals/assists in two of his seven years at the Club. Let’s hold on and see and support the team.
I agree with this. He wants to be involved and has shown flashes of talent.

I also think that we need to give Johnson some leeway. He has gone from the bloke who got Forest promoted to top scorer at Tottenham, and that has quickly turned into not being wanted at Tottenham, coming to Palace presumably under the impression that Glasner is staying, and has instead been pitched into an environment where the manager and several key players want out amidst a terrible run of form. How's that for confidence-building for a player who is still young ? He must be completely bemused at what has happened to him over the last 6 months. Patience and support are needed.

Ayew was a workhorse and while his stats for goals/assists isnt great that is not what his main game was about his hold up play and helping with defending etc was key for us.

Some players are not cut out for Prem and excel in other leagues (Others need to sometime go away learn craft and then later on do well in Prem)

People trying to defend Pino with but he gets picked for Spain he must be good is rubbish International football is not the same as league football & what has he done so great for Spain nothing.

He has only played 19 times for Spain first time was when he was 18 he is now 23 that is not a good number (I will be fair to say 1 of those years he was injured but still 19 games in 4 years then is poor)

So odd. There are lots of very good players who never amassed 19 caps over their entire career.

International football is different, but the point remains. You dont get picked to play ANY games for a top team like Spain if you are a chump.

Lets not write him off too soon

I'm wondering if we'll see a change of formation whereby Pino will no longer be required to play in the left sided role.
He played in a central attacking midfield role at the weekend and got on the ball more, even if his passing was found wanting.
It could entail a move to a back 4 in a 4231 formation if Glasner can swallow that.

Suspect he'd rather swallow cyanide but you never know.

True. Too many fans look at the transfer fee and forget that there is an individual - just like many of us - behind it.

I think he’s just struggling with the physical aspect of the Prem more than anything. He seems to be cottoning on the the fact the referees let far more go in the Prem than they do in Spain. Certainly seems to be throwing himself to the floor less than he did.

He’s still young and I think he’ll get better - but I would much rather see him on the right wing driving for the byline and fizzing a cross across goal, especially now with JSL in the 6 yard box.

He is technically good and takes up good positions but it's when he gets the ball that he has problems.

Takes a while to get the ball under control and then wayward simple passes or he just gets knocked off the ball too easily.

I thought forest was one of his better games but his end product was still woefull!!

We needed someone in the middle who could pass - not well but better than Lerma and Hughes - given Wharton's suspension.

Pino has played LW but is primarily RW having to play on the left given Sarr is preferred on the right. You have to judge him with that understanding.

I have seen somewhere that Pino was a right winger in Spain. Not sure if that true, but he hasn't had a chance to play there for us.

Whilst Pino had scored a couple of nice goals cutting inside from the inside left position, he's found it very difficult to influence games. Even when he's in a position to put someone in, he very often gets the final ball all wrong.

I think that perhaps many of us may have been guilty of seeing that Pino is small, Spanish, and not overly quick, and just presumed that he's got subtle skills and playmaking abilities to compensate. Its natural to think that giving him freedom to play in the hole is best. Perhaps he actually finds that freedom baffling, or at least so totally different to what he's used to that he's all at sea in his own head.

I'd like to see him playing on the right in a different system. Christ knows we need so much more from him than we are getting at the moment that it's worth a try.

The thing that strikes me though, is that n the past Johnson appears to have done best when playing on the right. It's not obvious that both could play in the same side.

i think every man and his dog, bar one, can see 4-2-3-1 is the best formation, extra attacker, another player in midfield, and only two out of four CDs needed, but we will only see the correct selection once the Austrian A******e has gone.

RW playing LW.

I suspect he would have played in his natural position while Sarr was away, but who would cover LW?

Perhaps something like Sarr or Guessand for the left, Larsen or Nketiah for the centre, and Johnson or Pino for the right? Or, basically one of Larsen or Nketiah will play up top, and then pick two from the other four to fill in around that.

I was looking at some of those daft YouTube videos showing 'Skills and goals' by Pino when he played for Villarreal. From that limited evidence, it's not obvious that he only played on the right at all. There were just as many clips of him playing in the inside left position.

This,
Pino will come good for us or (like so many players in the past) will end up leaving, getting the support he needs and then becomes a World beater elsewhere.
Some fans are not happy unless they have someone to pick on. Before Pino it was Kamada, before that Edouard and so it goes on.
There's no point in calling for everyone to get behind him because the moaners will always moan. They'll keep talking about his faults and complain about him (as if they are top coaches) until either he hits some real form or they find someone else to bitch about.
Good news Yeremy, Kamada is back very soon 🙄

Agreed. Edouard did well for a sloth

Pino will come good as will Johnson.
I'm my opinion it always takes a new player, particularly foreign lads a season to settle in.
We'll see the best of Pino next season and Johnson will improve with time too.
Lad's and lasses let's do what we do best and get behind them.

Yep, Milivojevic and Jedinak had slow starts but went on to be legends
