For a club like Palace, the connection between the players and the fans has always been part of the character of the club. Mateta wanted to force a move through to get out the club and get to Milan, you can tell by Glasner's comments pre-Forest and Henderson alluded to it aswell.I'm not joining the pile on against Mateta.
The guy wanted to leave last Summer and has been playing with an injury.
I expect he will have surgery now, but if he is playing in a Palace shirt, then it makes no sense to barrack him. If he scores goals, then everybody should be happy.
I hope he can get fit and finish the season with a flourish. Then we can wave him off with no hard feelings. He is an FA Cup winner.
He has let down the fans who paid their hard earned cash to travel to Forest and watch them play without a striker because someone earning £50k a week refuses to do what is stated in the contract he signed. The club have given him a platform to get his move to Milan, to be in with a chance of playing for France at the world cup and have only ever said "it needs to work for us too".
Marc Guehi has set the standard when it comes to acting professionally and progressing your career. Mateta has been ill-advised, behaved poorly and deserves to be told that by the fans too. He has downed tools for a while and has been using his knee injury as a scapegoat for that. If you're injured, don't play. If you're not injured, buckle up and give it 100%.
Every member of the FA Cup winning squad will always have a place in my heart, it was the best day of my football supporting life. It's just a shame that Mateta has gone about his exit from the club the way he has. Similarly with Glasner. Wouldn't say either of them have been "piled on" but the paying fans of the club are entitled to let them know that we deserve better than that BS.
