FA Cup 3rd Round Macclesfield

Glasner is quoted as bemoaning the lack of a dribbler but he has shown no inclination to encourage one.
We lost our best one to Arsenal. The next best possibles (in theory) are Pino and Wharton.

Pino has the best credentials but he is continually bundled off the ball whilst Wharton has the confidence to slow it down and bring it forward but seems to prefer a wall pass, usually in haste. One -touch football is beautiful to watch provided all participants have the requisite ball control skills and anticipation - but they don't and it's not working for us.

I thought criticism of Chris Richards was harsh as it was his first game back after the Caraibo game against Arsenal and he was played out of position. His final long-throw attempt was contemptible when he overstepped the line by some distance.

I also thought Drakes-Thomas played better than most and was perplexed when he was subbed off at half-time when Devenney or particularly Sosa should have gone.

Next up is away to Sunderland, a daunting task - lets hope Senegal are knocked out in the semis and Sarr (who has hardly played at all) is back

But being Palace we could just be the first team to beat them at home - always look on the bright side after a shocking disaster I say 😛
It was more a criticism of Glasner putting him in the middle of the 3 centre backs. Guehi was the obvious choice for that role and it would have been more balanced. Richard’s is a top player but like everyone yesterday including management they were terrible and truly embarrassing. It will take a long time to get over this and sadly we will be reminded about it forever :-(

Best year of my Palace supporting life , can never take away our 2 wins at Wembley also going 19 games unbeaten and Europe , 54 years waiting for a year like that , ok minor blimp at the end , season is not over , it still can finish on a high , to many people want to scream and shout when results are not to there liking and want sackings 22 new players new board the lot , we have had a bad month , not bad 1 month out of 12 , joke about it otherwise your wasting your time supporting Palace because its our DNA , Used that as it seems the in thing 😀

It was awful yesterday, and there is some uncertainty with Ollie's future, but we don't have to get too existential about this. I disagree vehemently with Willo's prediction of bottom seven - we're going to get at least one more player in, then the absentees return and we'll be firing again. It looks like tangible progress is actually happening with the main stand, then we'll know by the end of the month where we stand with Ollie - I don't think he's a fit for Man U, or Spurs, it wud be like Roy at Liverpool. January was always going to be hard, but I really think we're over the worst - back to one game a week and with our fixture overload we have enough games on our plate with the Conference League - so the season is still alive for us. At near our best I think we'd have beaten Fulham, Spurs and Newcastle - we will have to field our strongest sides in Europe from now on though, I think we can make top eight, but the Conference is our best bet to qualify for Europe.

Do we want Europe again next year?
This year it has bit us on the arse for many reasons, and I not convinced we would be ready for next year either!
Personally I would rather not have Europe as I hate the Sunday/Thursday fixtures, and I would rather concentrate on the Premier league and domestic cups.

Get what your saying, but I would like to believe we would be ready this time , you now once bitten twice shy , also will give us higher profile , in theory would get us more investment also higher profile players ,

I agree we haven’t got a good enough squad of good and experienced players to compete. This will be the case until we have increased the stadium’s capacity. As yet I haven't seen a spade in the ground yet. I’m afraid OG hasn’t been able to stem the goals from set pieces or improve the winning of crosses on our set pieces. He and his coaching staff look out of ideas.

Let's sit back and prepare ourselves properly for Champions League.!! That of course is my proposal to our Shareholders who we depend on to fund the whole ride.

We'll just have to finish in the top 5 then and play on Tuesday/Wednesday. 😉😀

Willo is always the bearer of doom and gloom - I still wonder if he's a secret Brighton fan..!! He certainly seems to relish being the "harbinger of gloom"..!!

My view is that yesterday was all on Glasner - poor tactics, poor team selection..!!

Why are we starting with 3 at the back against a non-league side - it seems to me that Glasner is wedded to this system and has no plan B. I agree with you for that reason he will never manage at the "top level"..!!

We should have started with our strongest available XI, with only 4 at the back and looking to go forward and pressurise and kill the game off - and then make changes when we had control of the game.

We will not live this down for years - every time the FA Cup is played - it will be recounted "remember when non-league Macclesfield beat the holders Crystal Palace - - we've got to live with that..!!

If there's one thread of positivity - at least it reduces our fixture burden - focus now has got to the the Europa Conference - which with everyone fit and few additions I believe we can win..!!

So over to you Parish - we need a right back and a CDM next week..!! Get doing the do..!!

Wining the Conference League and Top 8 is still attainable - and would equate to another wonderful season..!!

COYP..!!

Funny talking about Europe, for a team that averages a 12th place finish in the domestic league. In other words, as we have seen, we are totally unequipped for such a venture. Our template thus far is one of Premiership survival, and that's about it, despite winning a domestic cup competition, which is fine and dandy, this season is proving a steep learning curve for anyone who thought we could compete successfully on multiple fronts.

I think I am traumatized by the whole experience yesterday and I can't even bear to turn on the TV! If nothing else, it just goes to prove you can't be successful on the cheap. The whole business model needs revisiting including investment, control and appetite for risk versus steady decline. As ever, being a loyal fan for decades, I will see my therapist, amortize it against tax and continue the pain and suffering.
