Glasner to reject a new deal?

I’m under the impression that OG will stay if he feels the club is moving forward. His publicly acknowledged disappointment with our summer recruitment has never boded well for me.

I therefore think that only a major spree this January would resolve this, and I don’t consider that to be likely although I have no insight whatsoever there.

We’re down to 8th in the table as things stand and seem to be falling toward a more likely end placement (having been in the top five briefly).

We won’t get relegated but I’m not hopeful of us finishing in a position that allows us to qualify for the Europa League at least or winning the ECL/FA Cup again.

So barring us miraculously winning the ECL (or FA Cup again), going undefeated for a long period like previously and/or making numerous quality signings in this window, I can’t see Glasner staying.

My prediction is for us to finish slightly above our traditional 12th, having made a couple of signings in January, with OG leaving once the season is done.

Roll on the next chapter after a quite glorious one which may have had the potential for more, but did deliver the one thing most of us had only previously dreamed about and some of us were lucky enough to be at Wembley to witness.

I think the problem is that OGs not willing to commit, makes Parish nervous of making big signings, we have 3 loan spaces left, all should be filled in Jan, it may cost a lot, but won’t leave a large debt if OG walks

Because the end of his contract is coming up and he thinks he can do better its really simple , you cant make him sign a new contract if he doesn't want to . Yes its a paper thin squad everyone knows that , but if he's made his mind up and its only conjecture at this stage he will be going , who knows maybe he's been tapped up . I'm sure he done his homework before joining Palace and knew dam well from Steve's previous history with managrs he wasnt going to break the bank just to keep him happy .
It is the model of plausibility that it will not be necessary for the club to present Glasner with a new contract to sign.
I was interrogated on this subject on Christmas Day !

It's a fine example of the mess football in general has got itself into where a club is nervous about signing players to keep a successful manager happy when he might walk anyway and the players they already have can run their contracts down then leave for nothing and pick up a huge signing on fee. Big/rich/spendthrift clubs can get round it a bit by having too large squads available but we can't do that either.
Is there an answer? If there is it's likely to involve a pretty large gamble.

Classic catch 22. Ollie won’t sign because Steve and the board won’t spend. Steve and the board won’t spend in case Ollie leaves and the next manager might want to set up differently.

Now… with this in said, perhaps Steve and the Selhurst massive could pick the next manager with that in mind and dare I say continue on the path that has seen us with our most glorious period ever.

However, this is Palace we are talking about, the next manager will come in and switch things up to a completely different system, perhaps a Roy style 8-1-1 formation and we can all sleep through the next 4 years of 17th to 12th finishes going out nice and early in the cups so the players can firmly concentrate on the lofty 40 points. Etc etc.

It would be funny if it wasn’t so true 😳

So it's just about his financial package? If so, you don't think the club should break the bank to keep him?

You don't think there are other factors?
The point is that the board could offer the biggest wage in the league, promise him loads of new players in January, build a new stand and anything else. But they can not make OG sign a new contract. He now has all the aces and no one knows what OG has in his mind at this point. So to demand an answer to why we let OG go is ridiculous. The board (as far as we are aware) do not want to let him go, we just don’t control the situation!

With regard to player recruitment for OG, I see it that we still need to get players in the door regardless of whether OG stays or not.
We have discovered a formation and system that clearly works and we recruit players that will fit this system, furthermore if OG decides to leave we then actively find a manager that can work with our system.
I have posted previously that I believe we have a clear DNA and that we should stick to it, and any new manager has to fit in with us and not the other way round.
We have tried changing in the past and it never works. Stick to what you are good at!

It is Glasner's decision apropos a continuation of the 'Project' or whether it is in his interests to seek another challenge.
I am not under the impression that personal financial considerations are pivotal in this respect.

I would agree that I do not think OG is solely motivated by money. So for people to think that we could keep him by offering more money is folly!

Possibly better to buy players - Oliver can work his magic on them. That will give, with the Academy players appearing in December a legacy that (1) will provide strength for the future (2) tempt him to stay for a further year.

The fact that he has said he will wait until mid-Jan and has made all the comments he has made about transfers, tells the story.

He will 100% base his decision on what we do in the first half of the window. It’s so obvious that that is what he is waiting for, and quite frankly it’s fair enough.

We need to show our commitment to him early on in Jan, by strengthening the squad in numbers and quality, and only then would he return the favour by very literally committing to us with a new contract.

Although the billion dollar question is - what is enough to achieve the desired outcome ? (Assuming that anyone we buy / loan has already been pre-approved by OG in terms of quality & attributes)

Where would OG draw the line & sign, comfortable that the clubs ambition matches his own - 1 Player - 3 Players - 5 Players ?
