Mateta

Indeed, whist exciting, there isn't any point getting carried away with the fact that we are 4th.

We are only 3 points above 10th.

And Leeds won't be?

Their performances against Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool suggest we're in for a real scrap LESS than 48 hours after our KUPs game? I have more confidence in getting something out of City than out of Leeds.
I got an impression (warning Stattos are about) that Leeds are a bit lightweight,Ollie will have a plan.

City were too over confident against Leeds imo, City know they need to win against us to keep in touch with Arsenal, Chelsea are clueless and Liverpool have lost the plot.

JP wants £150k a week, after tonight he's avin a laugh
Mateta's form has dipped alarmingly.Commentators have been uttering that he has not fully recovered from a knee issue but he was fit enough for Glasner to start him today and he lasted until the 77th minute.
The commentator alerted the viewers to a statistic I have mentioned on HOL more than once - Mateta scoring only 1 goal from 'Open Play' in his last 13 games. Make that 14 after tonight's debacle. The commentator must have taken a peek at HOL😛😀

Mateta’s form is pretty poor but he does give his all and clearly wants to win. That said Uche has a similar personality when he’s on the pitch. Eddie is probably a more natural goal scorer than either of them but lacks a spark at times. Of the three of them Uche is more worthy of a starting place at the moment.

Was watching one of those Tiffo videos and it showed how before Glasner, JPM played with his back to goal but didn't have much success. Glasner changed it where be had the crosses coming in and balls through the middle which equated to his impressive form.

Without wingers and CM who can play it though to him he has reverted back to 'back to goal.'

Having been at the Leeds match, the lack of crosses, both in the air and on the ground to JPM killed us really.

Mateta is 6ft 4in but aerial prowess is not his strength.
A former coach of his in France asserted that he is better with his feet than his head.

Uche can play as a 10 which would allow Nketiah to play as the striker if the decision to drop Mateta was made.

Both 2 bob though ain’t they?
Nketia isn’t big enough to lead the line and his finishing isn’t any better than mateta.
Uche is only a footballer because he’s big and strong, need to have more than that to be a number 10.

Disagree. As an out-and-out finisher, he's the best we've got. Unfortunately, he lacks in other areas, making JP the better overall option. However my patience has also waned. Uche deserves a start. What more can he do that score and win a penalty in one and a half games?

Uche isn’t a 10 though is he? Either a central striker or on the bench.
Disagree that nketia is a decent out and out finisher, he never has been. Poor record in a good arsenal team (apart from a couple of games against a shocking sheff Utd), I appreciate a lot of the minutes were from the bench, but he was only on the bench as he wasn’t good enough to start.
He went on loan a few years ago at Leeds in the championship, I remember he wasn’t a success there either. We was striped on the price /wages for Eddie.
Uche is basically on ‘sale or return’ like a crap set of encyclopaedias.
We need to get last seasons mateta back on form, or get a couple in, or on loan.

I'm not suggesting Uche plays 10. I think he should come in for JP.
The general consensus among football people I know and speak to, including a lot of Arsenal fans, is that in terms of out and out finishing, Nketiah delivers. But it's the rest of his game that's lacking.

However agree - last season's Mateta would be nice 🙂 Reality is though, we're not seeing it. So we can bang our heads against the wall trying to refind his form, or we can try something else.

That seems to be an assumption made because he does not contribute much in other respects, However as I pointed out in another thread
"Since Nketiah joined, he has scored 5 goals from an xG of 7.6 in the league. Over the same time period, Mateta has 21 from 23.7"
pretty unimpressive
