Leeds v Crystal Palace Match Thread

Can’t say that wasn’t expected after all the matches we have played this season especially with such a small squad. My annoyance is that we screwed up against KUPS by not putting out a stronger team to automatically put us into the next round. Now we have two extra games in that competition, prem games, FA cup plus a Carabo cup match on Tuesday. If we had won Thursday today wouldn’t have mattered so much and now we go into a most probable defeat on Tuesday. I’m annoyed at this as we should have won on Thursday and taken the hit today - grrrr!

I feel very sorry for all the supporters who made the long and arduous journey to Leeds.
All of them and all of us at home were let down by a team who conceded 4 goals as a result of set-pieces and who lost duels all over the pitch. It was a shambolic performance.

Taking out a £150m loan isn't a risk?

I respect your perspective but politely disagree. He takes educated risks and has steered us to our most successful period in our history. The previous owner took bigger business risks and it ended with us on the edge of liquidation.

Clubs take out large loans all the time it's standard practice.

He takes 0 risks (This new stand should have been completed already and at half the price to much messing about & excuses)

It sounds like Woody is the one who has forced it to progress just like Tex did for the academy.

We win FA Cup And Community Shield and still not willing to risk to try move us forward this sums up SP (The summer window was a complete disgrace & OG knows it as well no excuse for it)

Parish has to manage the club long term, not gamble it all this season. And gamble on what? Maybe we'll win the Conference League, even though we've looked horrible so far?

We're a mid-table club with limited revenue, there's no way we can sustainably be a club that finishes in the top 7, and competing for Europe every season. Glasner is obviously leaving us for a bigger club in 6 months, but before he walks out the door, he demands that SP spend a boat load of money on players for the rest of his last season? To me, that makes no sense financially.

OG hasn't been able to beat Strausburg, Kups, or even minnows Larnaca in the Conference League. I have no confidence at the moment that we can beat a club from North Macedonia or Bosnia in the next stage. Let alone win the entire tournament.

So we've disappointed in the Conference League, and we're headed to another 12th place in the PL, so it makes no sense to splash stupid money around in January. OG wants a bench loaded with starting players, which is why he's leaving for a bigger club. We can't afford it. and he knew that when he signed with us.

It's great that OG led us to the FA Cup, but his constant loud and public complaining this season is getting old for me.

Munoz and Sarr are so key in everything we’re about - literally probably the two players we couldn’t afford to lose and we’ve lost them. That’s the real difference. Will have to pick up scrappy points here and there until they’re back.

I am in agreement.
We have not impressed in Europe, besides we have played 13 games at 'Home' and only emerged victorious in 4 of them in normal time.We beat Millwall on penalties after the match ended 1-1.
Glasner has delivered an FA Cup and Community Shield for us and I am expecting him to leave for 'Pastures new' at the expiration of his contract.

Taking out a loan is still a calculated risk whether others do it or not. Parish has moved us forwards, more than any other owner. So i disagree with your view but each to their own.

Just too many games in too fewer days is the issue here, along with pointless international breaks that have culminated in this bottle neck effect of games. This is really effecting us now with injuries and having a small pool of players, we all knew this train was coming down the track…..
Indeed, it was mentioned by many on here. One doesn't have to have a degree in Hindsight Studies to know that after winning the FA Cup it would mean extra games in one Euro competition or other and investment in the playing squad should have taken precedence. Instead Parish faffs about with UEFA to appease his ego and even wanted to sell our captain at the last moment - imagine the state of play if that would have gone ahead!
The manager suggests investment over saving in a historical year for the club and there's an outcry, all the while driving his favourites into the ground saying he wants to win every game. Unrealistic, and I think he knows it now.

With Kamada, Munoz, and Sarr all out for at least a month the next 6 or 7 games are going to be very challenging. If Hughes was injured and Mateta on painkillers for his knee, we are going to be lucky to get any points at all now for some time to come.
Truth is we have only ever had about 12 players this season who are up to premier standard and about 4 more who can manage a 20 minute hold at the end of games.
For some reason, the board seem to have overlooked the need to have a larger group of quality players to deal with the extra games our sudden success has brought.
Unfortunately, the whole ridiculous Europa / Conference fiasco seemed to be a major issue in the summer, along with Textor's departure and Johnson's arrival, which all overloaded Parish.
The new stand has taken up an excessive amount of time, all being dumped on Parish who had lost his business director (who has now returned ) and of course Dougie.
Truth is, we are going to be really up against it over the next 6 weeks. I am struggling to see exactly how we are going to manage this. Yesterday' game a bit like the Shelbourne game both have confirmed what many of us have been saying re squad size. It is now upon us. We will be fire fighting and it is not looking pretty.
I dont even want to consider the outcome if we fail to recruit at least three quality premier ready players in January. The mood can change so quickly. Very evident now in the posts here. I am really hoping Parish performs as never before to help arrest a clear crisis.

I saw a look between Glasner and Guehi just after Guehi had had his head treated after the collision with Calvin-Lewis. It was one of resigned worry. I am praying that Glasner can somehow reassemble our 'squad' in preparation for Arsenal. It is a mammoth task.

Players win matches, teams win cups and squads win league titles.
Maybe it is time to prioritise the competitions (Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Conference) where we have a chance of achieving something. Rather than throwing those opportunities away in the vain hope if everything goes right we just might sneak a top 7 place.

Any team that loses 3 of it's key players will struggle (Sarr, Kamada, Munoz) and it hasn't helped that JPM's form has fallen off a cliff (injury or sulking?).

It was a poor effort last night by the team and I don't know what Glasner can do to fix it, whilst these guys are out. Still that's is why he gets the big bucks.

We have no chance whatsoever of winning the Carabao Cup given we are at Arsenal on Tuesday.Even if by sheer fluke we emerge victorious we will not prevail over the remaining teams.
I have expressed privately, and perhaps on HOL, that we have reached our summit and we are on that slippery slope towards a camp well south of the pinnacle.

Mateta, Sarr and Munoz are in the top three in our scoring table, Mateta has been quite dreadful, only scoring 1 goal in his last 14 games in 'Open Play' and the other two are unavailable.
I believe a priority is acquiring a backup to Munoz in January, possibly on Loan, as Clyne cannot perform that role and Sosa looks 'All at Sea' when asked to play out on the right. The wing-backs are very important in the 'Glasner Way' and we have no thrust all down the right with Munoz missing.
A few days prior to Munoz's injury I was opining to a gentleman words to the effect that we would 'Up the creek without a paddle' if he was unavailable.

Bit like the Tory Party?

I thought we were ok in the 1st half. Needed to take one of our chances but in general we played some nice stuff.

We came undone with their set pieces. Leeds have some very big physical players and took advantage of that. Ampadu posses a very effective long throw (not just long but a powerful flat trajectory) that caused us huge issues. This was made all the worse by leaving Wharton to mark DCL. This wasn’t by chance, it was clearly planned as he picked him up on every single long throw in the first half…Talk about a mis-match! Wharton then just let his man get away unmarked, for both first half goals he stumbled round in a daze and left DCL in acres of space. The rest of Whartons game was superb so it’s very disappointing that he was culpable for the goals that changed the game.

Second half we again started brightly but another set piece brought the third goal and we were cooked.

Uche looked bright when he came on and I was pleased to see Thomas-Drakes get another appearance.

JPM looked a bit flat but he was continually fouled and the ref gave him nothing. Eddie was ineffective and both him and Devenny were out paced by their huge defenders, which was a surprise. As others have already commented, the loss of Munoz and Sarr is huge for us.

Devenny took a good penalty but he should’ve put us in with a shout of a point, that header against the post was a shocking miss.

All in all undone by workrate, physicality and poor defending at set pieces. Let’s hope we can get a result at the Emirates in two days time.
