Of course they don’t have to be. They have chosen to be. Nurses, for fairly obvious reasons, must have a command of English to be given a working visa. As does everyone who gets a working visa. Even those applying for family visas must prove they can speak, understand and write basic English. Just not at the same level as those for work.Apparently they have to be in an English speaking country even though they don't speak English.
So where this idea that there are people who don’t speak any English comes from I don’t know. It was true under EU free movement that test free entry existed, but most from the EU have basic English. Some will have it as their second language, and obviously illegals don’t get tested, but everyone else does.
So, apart from stopping the illegals, which everyone wants, what else do you think we can do, that we aren’t already doing?
