Crystal Palace vs Man Utd match thread

Glasner has a press conference tomorrow in advance of the Burnley game.
I suspect he will row back on his comments and look forward with positivity.
That's his nature by and large, partucularly when preparing the team for games.
He doesn't like to look to make excuses before games to give the players an out.
He'll probably say the comments were borne out of the disappointment of the defeats, even if we all know that there is an underlying tension about the squad depth.

I suspect you are right.

In reality, investment HAS been made, 17m option to buy for Uche, and £12m for Esse. Not big money, but plenty of other prem wingers were signed by other clubs for less.

Obviously not the right fit for OG, so we've essentially 2 forwards down.

That being said, if we could score open goals, and JP scored some of his 1-on-1's we'd have won both games this week.

That's the irony of this whole thing hey, in a way. If JP finished two of those one-on-ones and Sarr/Wharton had put the ball into an empty net...suddenly we're looking red hot and everyone's happy.

Glasner was always likely to leave in the summer. He is ambitious and wants to manage at a higher level. Our lack of recruitment gives him an excuse and plants the “blame “ for his decision to leave at Parish’s door. He had been our most successful manager ever so will leave with our blessing provided he doesn’t totally screw up the next few months. He is tactically astute and sets up his team to take advantage of the weaknesses he detects in our opponents. However, he has failed to utilise the resources at his disposal in a long term approach to a busy season and those players he prefers are now running on empty while the others are neither match fit nor ready to take their place. He has also failed to prioritise despite saying we do t have the squad to compete in 4 competitions. Those errors are on him not Parish. I’d have been happier if he’d acknowledged some of the blame in his post match interview rather than blaming Parish et al.

100% agree, Well said.

Problem for me is we don’t take many chances. We go 2-0 Saturday we don’t lose. Not many goals are scored against our actual system in open play. It’s set pieces which hurt us mainly.
It is the set pieces and what makes it frustrating is that on both of the last two games they have been generously given free kicks
Two 1-1 draws and the mood would be greatly enhanced all round

Some matches feel very Important in shaping a season I feel Ollie speaking up was exactly the right time to arrest the slide that we are on this is a pivotal moment.

Maybe making sure the message hits home before the January window ?

Although playing devils advocate - if your SP, how do u play it, buy the players OG wants in the January window & then see him leave in the summer anyway?

Steve surely has to use it as a lever, some kind of an if I buy a) b) c) then I want you to commit to another season ?

I think you make a number of good, valid points.

To me it boils down to this ;

If I was a coach that preferred working with smaller squads then my main concern would be that all the players in that squad would be of quality and capable of playing within my chosen style.

So with that in mind, do you think that the squad has sufficient quality to be as competitive as it needs to be this season ? I don't.

certainly not in Glasners eyes it doesn't.

What we need is competition for places. Someone Glasner can put in instead of another in order to rest another without dropping the standard. Too many players in our first 11 are 'irreplaceable' in Glasners eyes and all this means is that the 'stars' get run into the ground - especially when fighting on so many fronts where rotation is a necessity, not a luxury.

We've only got Hughes, Lerma and maybe Sosa(when fit) who he trusts in a starting lineup. all others are 10 min subs, some not even that.

I think you can add Devenny & Canvot to that list, however I take your point and agree with you.

I have never heard so much rubbish in my life we have players good enough on the bench ,

we have lost 3 lge games 2 cup games since March haven't checked ,
will you lot stop finding reasons to fail its getting boring , we are a different club to old , yes we need couple of signings to give him a bigger choice but will he take it mmm ,

today he said he trusted them he done a gut reaction to losing when we should have won again , why do you lot find it hard to understand , I have faith jump in the water is lovely felling 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅💪💪💪💪

This was put to him at today’s presser. He basically said that’s not how it works. He gives his advice to the board on what might be possible and what types of players would help. He avoided any mention of his contract in his answer. Pretty clear he’s leaving.
