Crystal Palace vs. Brighton match thread

We are looking for reasons for not scoring making the odd mistake all the time , they are the fittest squad we have had and maybe the most skillful ,
they wasn't tiring just doing the simple things to save energy , don't listen to Clinton he couldn't run 5 yards without a holiday , all pundits talk about is playing to much , try working and playing you know the real world ,
so stop thinking this lot can't do the work load , I've see enough in this squad to not worry about playing to much , its a adrenaline sport all the time its going well , you have energy to burn , so please all of yous stop saying there tired due to playing 90 mins of football twice a week or even 3 times ,
I ran 10 to 15 miles a day 5 days a week play football and done a 12 hour shift which involved being on my feet , like the other 400 workers that was on site , so enjoy the ride while its happening, we lost to many players due to injurys in the past , enjoy why you can
A friend of mine was at the game with me yesterday.

He's a professional footballer.

I asked him what he thought about the players workload. It used to be said that players would rather play more and train less. But with the intensity of, in particular, Premier League football, it can and will have an effect when playing three games in a week.

As regards the game, it was predictably scrappy.

Mitchell was my MOTM. He had a tricky and speedy opponent in Minteh but I think he came out on top of that duel. Canvot can take confidence from a decent performance. Stepping into this game would not have been easy but he did well. Also good to see Jeff Lerma looking back to something near his best.

I thought we shaded it in terms of chances, but a draw was a fair result.

Brighton had done their homework on us and we didn't get Dani into the game as much as I would have liked.

Hopefully we have some money to spend and targets identified for the January window.

more mental than physical fatigue , surprising how much the body can take before breaking down , but mental fatigue is different , can be brought on by frustration that they get passing wrong , a shoot , a stop , and a tackle , thats when you revert back to basics , instead of trying something difficult

I am in agreement with this assessment of the game and individual performances.

'Hats off' to Canvot who looked assured, deployed on the left when he normally 'Ploughs his furrow' on the right. He has shown real character since that 'Faux Pas' in the Larnaca game.
A stellar performance from Mitchell against the fleet-footed and talented Minteh.
Finally, it appeared our energy levels sagged after about 70 minutes, understandably given we played on Thursday and the demands on the squad are being tested by the fixture schedule.

We commented at the game that he was taking a battering as well, but he battled hard and stood up to it, I think he showed the desire and resilience this team has at the moment

I didn't think we lacked energy, but I think the goalscoring issue is starting to have a psychological effect.

We dont have anyone from midfield chipping in with any open field goals and Munoz isn't quite as effective as last season so far.

The League is as tight as it's ever been and without training ground time Ollie and his staff aren't able to tweak things.

I think this international break is a really important one for the coaches to think about our tactics in the final third...

Also hope that we use our bench more and give the odd player a match off now and then before we do start racking up injuries.

I think this is key and someone OG will be aware off. At present it pretty much only JP and Sarr scoring consistently.

Wharton and Kamada need to find themselves 5 or so a season, Pino 7-10, and the CBs need to chip in a little more regularly too.

Pino never came to us as a goalscoring midfielder.
In 5 full seasons at Villarreal he only scored 17 La Liga goals.
In terms of goalscoring across the team, we have missed quite a few opportunities to hit the back of the net, with Mateta being the prime culprit, but at least we are creating the chances.

Which is a concern as he is one of the few players who are getting the regular goal scoring chances other than set pieces

He has contributed assists, he fits the system, everything looking good but in the position he plays we need the goals too

I think he'll start adding to his Anfield goal as he settles in to the club and country

Pino looks to do most of his work outside the penalty area which means it's very unlikely he'll be in positions to score many goals.
He makes no more than a few runs a game to get on the end of things in the penalty area.
It's not his instinct.

For us to score it needs to be Mateta, Sarr, Nketiah (if selected),Munoz (rarely) or from a set piece or long throw in.

It's not necessarily a problem while we keep clean sheets and are defensively mean.
However, somebody will have to step up in Sarr's absence during Afcon.

It would be beneficial to us if Senegal do not progress into the latter stages of the competition !

A decent point - I thought we looked dead on our feet in the last 20 minutes, particularly going forward.

I thought Mitchell, Canvot and Richards were the standouts - incredibly solid against a dangerous Brighton side.

He's obviously a world-class manager, but I am finding Glasner's unwillingness to use the squad very frustrating - we can't survive this season with him only trusting 13 or 14 players with meaningful minutes.

Both Uche and Esse have been signed presumably with a green light from Glasner, so I really struggle to understand how he doesn't rate them enough for even 20/30 minute cameos when the starters are flagging.

The Kamada stuff is mad to me - he's been one of our best players for over 6 months now, huge performances in the cup run, has just won back to back POTM awards... one quiet performance playing in a position he's never really looked comfortable in, and we're talking about him being 'awful' and not warranting his spot!?

I view him as one of our most important players.

It does feel as though some just want him to fail so they can be proved 'right' in calling him s***.

This is very evident with Mateta, he is letting his frustration get the better of him: that wild hit and hope slash at the ball in the first half totally lacked any kind of composure, culminating in a signalled penalty miss which must have frustrated him even more. He needs to calm down a bit.

No, but looking back I didn't make it clear that his opinion is that the intensity in matches is such that it definitely would impact performance levels.

Palace do have a squad issue I feel. Glasner prefers working with a smaller group, but it's made even smaller if there are a few players that he is reluctant to use.

Glasner sees his players in training and how they respond to the 'Glasner Way'. It would appear that he is not totally enamoured by either Uche and Esse.
