Why was so hated? Never quite understood.
He didn't make much impact, but it seemed to go much deeper than that.

I thought it was just that he was rubbish. Also very lightweight. Bambi on ice really caught on. Anybody near him and he was muscled off the ball by their shadow. The breath of the goalie could halt his most powerful shot. I would say he made Sanogo look good, but he didn't so that would be a lie. No one could.
However, Bamford had that little spell at Leeds when he was alright - that actually made it worse for him and us. We disliked him even more as he clearly could have been a lot better than he was. Anybody could have been - except Sanogo.
Benteke really is Messi in comparison to these two.

Kind of more confused now.

No one hated Sanogo (Scorenogoal) and he was even worse.
Bamford felt personal.

They played a totally different system that suited him, not a premiership centre forward.

When we had him on loan he wasn't getting the minutes he thought he deserved. Roy wasn't adapting to using him to his skills (much like Sorloth).

His detriment was going to the press and complaining about it. I can't remember exactly what was said, but something about not wanting to be at Selhurst. After that, he became a villain (I don't mean playing for Aston Villa 🙂 )

Oh, and Sanogo was worse. I don't think I've ever seen someone put on a Palace shirt that was so poor at football.

My memory of him was that we got him as a very young player on loan from Chelsea with potential. But he rubbed a lot of people up the wrong way with how surly he appeared. Having achieved very little in the game at that stage, and as very much unproven, he did not fit in interpersonally. Then he made disparaging public remarks about the club and by inference some of the staff and his teammates.

Perhaps he saw Palace as a massive step down from Chelsea and was not willing to come in the first place. Perhaps he got given assurances which were not how things played out, who knows. But for me the evidence since (baiting Sheff Utd with anti Wilder songs, smug interviews on MOTD, and doubtless more) paints the picture of a bit of a tool.
