How far can we go?

On a positive note about this: I'm starting to believe that Devenny can just about cover wing backs and maybe wide and centre midfield/attack and do a reasonable job. It also looks like Nketiah can offer cover across the front line and do a good job. So it's not as bleak as it could have been.
The next leap forward is if we could develop Esse and Kphora to take that step forward.

And Riad coming back into first team training in October to add centre back cover along with Canvot

Though we don't have a great record of getting the seriously injured back to full strength (Eze being an exception) this would be a great time to put that right so we have more options at the back before the January window opens

Ill be surprised if Riad was match fit this calendar year and Canvot has to be next season/cups.

But no-one has mentioned Uche in forward play. Back up AM, CF and LW and 1st choice for cup games.

Getting much better. Riad and Doucoure suffered really bad injuries, but we hardly missed Wharton, Sarr and Nketiah.

Updated today.

How do Liverpool have a perfect 100 score when they were just beaten by some team?
Well they've also got Aston Villa just behind us despite having a terrible start to the season and they list Al Hilal and Al Nassr as being in the same "top 100 teams in the world" so I'd get up, go into the kitchen and get yourself a pinch of salt.

How far can we go?
With or without glazier?
Don't go near a betting site any time soon if you don't want to be worried as they rarely if ever get things wrong.
My point?
4 of the big 5 have now opened a book on Man Utd to have a new manager in place by Jan 1st....and you won't be getting rich by backing the favourite, our very own Mr Glazier.
Amirom is now 1/5 next manager to lose his job which effectively means he's toast, as everyone knows and expects within the next week.
Also Fabrizio has tonight broken the story on his X account on the Man Utd hierarchy already identifying their one and only target with a £250m war chest to kick off the Utd revolution.
His initials are the same as Own Goal.
When Fab speaks, we listen.
So let's enjoy it while it lasts.

Wind Up Merchant.

For me, it's a race to get to 40 points with the ultimate goal of achieving more points than the previous year. We have made fantastic start.

We know anything can and will happen, so for now, just enjoy the ride.

Question is - come December if we are top 7 do we invest short term to keep that dream alive? Get some loan signings in? What a problem to have.

Thats as far as I'm willing to think at this point. Top half and still in Europe would be my aim. Then as you said the window could be interesting.

We of course have made a positive and encouraging start but I am not allowing my emotions to run amok. The season is in its infancy and our prospects could be hindered by injuries, particularly to key personnel.I am cautiously optimistic but my optimism is tempered with reality.

Reading this thread I think the central point to take is the fan inertia. We have lived decades with mediocrity and low expectation. It is a good thing. It stops us being entitled Newcastle fans. However, at some moment a new reality may catch up.

We have always said that we have the biggest unchallenged local fan base in the country (about 4m catchment population). We have always been the biggest club... in potential. The US investors certainly see that. Are we finally seeing that potential.

Injuries, excessive games and squad depth may be our issue as may the loss of Guehi. However, I am not buying this mantra about our squad being as thin as it is. The critics see the 2nd XI and despair at the lack of names they recognize. That doesn't mean they cannot play a part. They are all trained within the same intense Glasner method and should slot right in if one of the usual starters gets crock.

And why is it all about who we might lose. We have Riad and Doucoure to return to match fit at stages of the season, new players to further bed-in and possibly newer players to arrive in January. We may even see cameos from the ever-improving Academy.

Cups are a crap shoot, but no reason not to believe in a top 6 finish.

Will you predict any wins then?
