Labour Party politics

Mandelson's position became untenable, only after incriminating Epstein files were going to be made public.
Mandelson knew these documents existed, and you can bet Starmer did. Putting the precautionary approach of "innocent until proved guilty", to one side, this has got to critically damage Starmer. If it weren't for other hot news topics keeping this from the front pages, Starmer would be packing his bags. (just my opinion)
And the gut-wrenching stuff, is that Mandelson's connections/activities were known about before he was gifted the dream job of Ambassador to the USA. I also reckon Mandelson got a hefty pay-off and final salary pension. Mandelson should probably be in jail.
For what?

I want the Labour leadership to stop lying about being centralist....because they aren't really......and to start being honest about their politics and represent their base.

I've said it for years, parties should represent their party members who work for them....not monied interests and 'focus groups'.

The real Labour party is far closer to the likes of Steely (said without malice) and Corbyn and at the moment it's found itself caught inbetween political worlds pleasing no one......and thus it's completely unsuited to governing.

Authenticity above half truths and lies.

Starmer represents the dishonesty stain hanging over the Labour party. They can't win anything while that remains.
Labour's base is collapsing for this reason.

The Tories can't attract flies.

Could the next general election produce a Reform government with the Lib Dems as HM Opposition?

If I was going to guess, firstly I can't see Starmer staying as leader before any general election was called.

I think Labour would go with a female PM.....someone half bangable like Bridget Phillipson.

I could see Labour calling for an early election with her before worsening economic news down the pipe.

That's how I think they are going to play it. At the moment it just looks very bleak for them.

With Reform......I'm getting the impression that Farage is trying to recreate the Tory party and is expecting a flood of Tory MPs in the last year of a Labour government....expect that flood of Tory MPs once Labour call the election.

I agree with you, the Tory party have dithered and buried their head in the sand and are heading for wipe out.

Their only hope is that Labour, LibDems and the Greens join together to defeat Reform, which would mean that Farage would have to keep the Tories alive in a pack to maximise the vote.

We have 2 news stories on the BBC web-page this week, about a racist murder from 30 years ago in SouthEast London. So i guess its difficult to prioritise trivial stuff like the Peter Mandelson story ? or the unimportant 7/7 bombings ?

i suppose the BBC editors know best ?

anyhooo......Labour Party Politics. The gift that never stops giving.

This Labour Party doesn't have any politics. It's more a series of sound bites, firstly condemning Tories for everything that's wrong, then blaming the people for thinking wrong, then protesting wrong and it will move on to how Farage and Reform are wrong.
What they've forgotten is that they need to do something that isn't wrong themselves.
There has never been worse than this in government.
Sunak, Johnson, Truss, Cameron have all been made to look far more competent that Starmer.
He has some choices: wait for his own party to oust him.
Cause a war and hope everyone will get behind that - won't work but don't put it past him.
Throw dirt at everyone until no one is electable - we're nearly at that stage but Starmer is also throwing dirt at literally everyone - the electorate too.
Cross fingers that someone like Trump!? can fix the world economy and we all feel good whilst he basks in the sunshine.
Say and do next to nothing for three to four years. Give some tax giveaways and NHS pay rises and call an election. The buy off. Won't work.

I'd say Labour themselves will get rid. It's what nutter they put in that will be funny.

Why aren't they being treated in rich Arab states?

They aren't European and have no place here.
Can't criticize Israel as the US say they cant.

That is really p1ssing off their base.

So...

Vague promises of recognizing Palestine as a nation (won't happen).

And taking in a token number of sick children.

On which Stirling, note words emboldened. A relative handful of sick kids who might die but for our intervention. Some compassion, no?

And how do you know the rich Arab world isn't pitching in? Just because it hasn't been widely reported.

The Today Program stuffed with the Tommy Robinson march and Mandelson and little else.

Don't criticize what you haven't experienced. You will turn into Mary Whitehouse!

Yes, why wouldn't it be.

They have more than enough resources and these are their children.

Not ours.

This is what I've always said it would be.

FFS, you've got a short memory.

Yes - is it too soon to look back on the Truss premiership as a golden age?

Labour never had a chance.

A spending party with no money to spend.
A party for the people who care more about someone else's people.
A leadership made up of inadequate politicians desperately wanting to look moderate while their background is Marxist.
A PM who is as dislikable as any in living memory.

Let's just have an election next week.

I doubt there are any real Marxists in the current Labour crowd. It is a word regularly bandied about on here, but it is wrong. Diluted from concentrate socialists more like.

Starmer annoys you, but compared to the slew of rubbish dished up by the Tories...

Perhaps not likeable, but May was the last PM with any integrity and a desire to serve the public rather than herself. She was a victim of being dealt a shocking hand and with an impossible task of having to force the Genie back in the bottle.

She was a terrible leader. It became obvious very quickly that a section of the Tory party would not support Brexit even though they had stood on that platform. Boris for once did the right thing and kicked them out. May should have done that in her tenure.

You say she wanted to serve the public and yet she put party unity before country. She dragged out Brexit rather than tackling her own party malcontents.

There is an acute child poverty problem in the UK particularly from the tory austerity years which was the subject of UN criticism, and further reports from them that the UK has failed to act over a long period.

This is the type of thing a labour government should be about imo.

🙁

A singularly revisionist and partial re-telling of history.

You clearly forget (a fact the Tories have spent years seeking to smother) that the Conservative Parliamentary Party was - along with the majority of educated Brits - vociferously Remain, including her. That was her Poison Chalice.

To have done what you suggest would have required culling the intelligent members of her party and replacing them with the seriously dumb ERG types - an act that would have certainly led to a rapid decline in administration, economy etc. May would not commit to such an act of such obvious vandalism. It would have represented a clear breach of her duty. But guess what happened next?

To claim Boris ever did the "right" thing..!

You complain about revisionism and then write that!

As for complaining about the perceived outcomes of a democratic direction informed by the majority of the country.

Tut tut.

PPS......May is up there with Cameron and Sunak with responsibility for destroying the Tory party.

No wonder you like her.
