You might like Starmer to do a “Trump”, flourish his Sharpie and sign an executive order on emergency grounds but do you really want a potential dictator in Downing St, as well as in the White House?

Parliament enacts such changes after lengthy debate, amendments and scrutiny in the Lords. It takes time.
okay , so he can have until the next weekend. Things can be done very quickly when he wants them to; how quick were the Southport protesters and hurty words people brought to justice?
I am not sure if you know how much anger is brewing against the government on this subject; perhaps you don’t experience it down there.

I see the archbishop of York is saying that Farage’s plan to deport 600,000 will not solve the problem. I am assuming that due to falling attendance at churches he is hoping to house them in the vacant pews. At least that would get them out of the hotels and presumably the church would pay for their keep and not the taxpayer. The archbishop is a genius!

Try listening to LBC. I tried again today. It’s bl00dy unbearable. No wonder we’re chucking our country down the toilet with so many limp wristed useful idiots around.

Wrong religion.

The law didn’t need changing because of the rioting that followed the misinformation that was spread after the Southport tragedy. It was always illegal. That the judicial system decided to act swiftly and decisively to try to discourage others doesn’t change that.

I know people are angry. The question is not whether they are but why they are and what needs to be done about it. I suspect our answers on both would be different.

I detest populist politicians exploiting situations for their own political advantage when they know full well, like Badenoch, that the Tories dealt with this issue less effectively than the current Government is, or like Farage proposing pie in the sky solutions he knows have no chance whatsoever of succeeding, even if they were ever attempted.

We need to take this out of the political area and develop a cross bench, long term, international strategy with our neighbours that addresses the problems at source. We then need to explain what we are doing and why, rather than trying to apply slicking plasters over a gaping wound. This is a national crisis which deserves to be treated seriously and not as a political football. In the meantime we must cope whilst meeting our obligations and we need to explain that properly.

Now you call it a national crisis - five minutes ago you were telling us it was enhancing and to enjoy it.

The problem is, Wisbech, is that the general public are past the point of listening to words from politicians that are meant to dispel their fears. They can’t protest against potential kiddie fiddlers in their midst, they can’t vent their anger online to get it out of their system, they can’t display the national flag as some form of objection. So what are we left with; Farage. And the real fear? If Farage gets in and he too is thwarted by the liberal left progressives, you wil probably get something far worse that really is far right. The public would accept anything to get rid of the situation so Starmer’s words better translate to actual success or he is toast.

Ain't that the truth!

Our 'unbiased' justice system at work again!

Mr Barrett highlighted that Lord Justice Bean had been a Labour Party member for 28 years, had formerly served as deputy chairman of the Society for Labour Lawyers, and is a former chair of the Fabian Society, a socialist think tank “which advocates in favour of migrants”.
The barrister alleged that in presiding over the case, “Lord Justice Bean erred, in failing to properly consider, or if not fail to consider, fail to properly apply, the test of ‘apparent bias’”.

Even today british justice is held worldwide as the rolls royce standard.

I don’t know how old you are but people being hacked off with politicians isn’t new. I have seen it throughout my 81 years. The big difference today is the existence of social media and its capacity to spread disinformation and propaganda which some then regard as the truth, and the truth as lies. You have only to look at the USA to see the impact of this when it’s exploited to its full potential.

People can, and do, get out and protest. However what they are protesting about is being manipulated. They are being fed hatred. Are there really any more “kiddie fiddlers” these days than in the past or are people just being encouraged to believe there are? Are they really tying flags to lampposts as a sign of patriotism or because they’ve been encouraged to?

Farage is on a personal quest. He has less idea of how to actually solve our systemic problems in the world of 2025 than any of the real politicians. He is a populist trumpet. Blowing the tunes that get headlines in the Mail and winding up the impressionable.

He wouldn’t be thwarted by liberal left progressives or anyone else. He would be thwarted by realism.

What will happen at the next GE I don’t know any more than anyone else, but I worry because I don’t see anything sensible on the horizon. Farage is more than partially responsible for this, being the catalyst for Brexit and its mega stupidity. We need a brave, charismatic leader to emerge to tell us the truth, heal divisions, inspire and lead us. I don’t see one. Yet. I always have hope though.

What a leader of a party that listens to the majority and acts on their concerns. Mmm 🤔

Do people complain, or even notice, if a Judge has belonged to, or served, the Conservative Party? Something I suspect is much more likely in the judiciary than any association with Labour.

Being a Judge is a job. It requires an extremely long education in the law followed by a great deal of experience and then selection by senior Judges. Not politicians.

We will have to see whether this complaint gets anywhere but I instinctively doubt it will. In fact I think Mr Barrett is more likely to be chastised for making malicious complaints which have the capacity to undermine public confidence in our legal system.

Where's Oliver Cromwell when you need him.

The rule of law is by the consent of the people, something the establishment should not forget. That includes judges, how they are appointed and what if any political views they hold.

However unlike the US in this country the establishment has clouded all of this and whilst it is possible to investigate an individual judge the establishment purposely refuses to keep or release data about the judiciary in general.*

Someone mention Tory judges fair enough but we simply don't know and we should. All of the judges should be on an official website with their biographies. The public can then make their own minds up about whether the process that puts them in power is fair.

It won’t happen because the great and the good like to keep that power to themselves. I am not advocating that we elect judges but the system should be scrutinised, they are quick to bang on about diversity of gender and race in the judiciary but you wont here a peep out of them about political bias.

*When a judge is overruled by the Appeals Court it normally means that the judge has made an error in law. In other words they have not done their job properly. Well we all have bad days and one mistake should not cripple a person's career. But what if a judge keeps getting overruled, that indicates they are no good and should be sacked. Try finding information about that, you wont.

What difference would that make other than to undermine confidence in the judiciary?

It’s already being undermined when a barrister gets involved in politics and starts taking pot shots at Judges:-
