Zrinjski vs. Crystal Palace match thread

I understand but that ship has sailed unfortunately. Whether Glasner has been dealt a bad hand (I’d argue being given two record signings int he front line isn’t bad), who is to blame and so on is now secondary. We need results urgently or we will be at high risk of relegation. So really the only question now is will we stand a better change of getting those results with or without Glasner. I think it’s now clear to absolutely everyone we would be better with somebody new.
That is a big call.

Results will dictate, as they always do.

I recall Glasner asserting that there would be no announcement made before 10 Jan (After the fixture congestion) and that he would inform the players first and the media second. This did not sound like a manager who intended to extend his stay at the club ! Glasner's comments were the catalyst for messages sent to me.
I would imagine that the players would see the writing on the wall.

One of our biggest losses has undoubtedly been Dougie. He wasn't 100% on talent spotting, but his success rate overall was phenomenal. Since he has gone, I don't see one good signing.
Surely the manager is consulted on new players. If not, well then the whole thing becomes totally random, as it is the manager we rely on for results.
Makes me wonder what really happened with Dougie.

I was told Glasner would not work with a DOF. And funnily enough, Hobbs is a Sporting Director.

Is his role markedly different from Dougie’s or is it just a matter of branding?
As far as I'm aware he is a chief scout basically and transfer negotiator. Whereas Dougie had a development role too - buy them young and develop them. An input into development. Hobbs stays in the office. Dougie would be on the training pitch, at the academy and on the road scouting too. That's my reading of it.

I like strand Larsen and in a confident driven palace team he can be immense. That’s Said, the price paid was immense so we can hardly give credit to Hobbs or anyone involved. Money talks.

It seems we miss Dougie massively

It seems if we are to progress in the Conference or the PL we must now rely on individual brilliance to score goals and a radical re-vamp of a creaky defence. We need a Zaha as a temporary Eze replacement for inventiveness. In defence Sosa and Munoz were caught out against quick breaks (a tactic we used to great effect in earlier days) We are now very suspect against breakouts as proved against Burnley and Zrinjski.

Glasner's tactics have been ruthlessly exposed by supposedly inferior teams. The team has no clue as to how best to use the overwhelming possession we now have. We lack leadership and making Henderson captain is a mistake although he is maybe the only candidate.

I have no confidence in Glasner changing his tactics as he seemingly doesn't know how to. But if he doesn't then we are in for more humiliations and a nervy finish.

In Mostar only Sarr could be excused for our lack of skill and effort. Lacroix as centre back should be a leader but he is ineffective and prone to fouls. At least Pinot had efforts on target. There is a terrible lack of movement up front so the balls from the back kept being played sideways. Kamada was a particular culprit. Given time Chiad Riad will come good but we miss Guehi terribly and Parish stands condemned for not finding a suitable replacement when he knew in the summer we would be losing him.

The only consolation is that Glasner's CV is now badly tarnished and he will be lucky to find a better club to feed his need 'for a bigger challenge'

The old saying that 'if things don't change they will stay as they are' sounds very ominous to me.

I think every manager does stuff that seems unfathomable to fans. My concern is more about motivation.

His biggest mistake was announcing that he was leaving. That should have waited until we were safe at least.
You're right and let's add they know a lot more about football and their specific situation(s) than we do.
If there is any upside to our current plight it'll be easier to part company with him than it would have been if he'd had us flying and then gone off and the next manager had been in place during the decline. It might be desperately searching for positives but one might be that the new boss will have a clear idea of what and who needs to be improved/replaced.
Or this is just typical Palace and it's all been ballsed up again but it's sad that a manager who would otherwise have been a legend has seen his reputation so badly damaged.

Clickbait recently linked us with Jaden Philogene - could he do the job? After we've cleared out a few of the wide players we've already got of course.
The trouble with being welded to one tactic is it's sheer predictability - at least with the level of players we can afford or keep. It's often a reason newly promoted teams do reasonably well until everyone has played them once and worked out their weaknesses. In our case Mitchell tries hard but isn't really suited to the role and Munoz has lost something so the whole wing back approach is compromised anyway.

Klopp announced he was leaving in January when Liverpool were top of the league and they finished 3rd. Without any meaningful additions Slot got them to be champions the following season. Palace have had a similar, albeit more dramatic, fall-off

Freedman did sign Nketiah and Franca. The input of the manager on signings is unknown. Obviously Kamada would have been his choice, but the others maybe not so much. You have to buy what is available and affordable, but if you say that you win some and lose some with transfers, we have definitely lost a lot lately.
Moving from a 70/30 to 30/70 success rate, spells doom for a team like Palace. If we survive, there could be a Sunderland/Luton/Palace 2013/14 turnover in the summer. I don't have much confidence with Parish and Hobbs in charge, so we will have to hope that a formation change helps the team and that at least two of the promoted teams are crap

This is true, however Liverpool won 7 out of 10 PL games after he announced his departure.
They also won the 'League Cup' after Klopp informed all and sundry he would be leaving Liverpool.

I don't think we are good enough to dismiss anyone in this competition as 'easy' anymore. They all raise their games when they play us, and when we play at a tempo that a snail would be comfortable with, it plays into their hands.

Virtually every players form has dropped off in a big way, good players don’t become bad players in a few weeks. Everything has gone stale, players, manager, a complete lack of vibrancy. A loss on Sunday to Wolves which I fear is probably going to happen must result in Oliver Glasner being replaced

We will all be indebted to OG for giving us the clubs greatest day, but IMO he’s got to go now.

Yes that’s the trouble with CPFC - always buying players willynilly without a second thought. If only they would wait till the end of the window occasionally.
Maybe not leave it too late to actually submit a bid though.
The Last Turkey in the Shop approach blew up last time.
