Zrinjski vs. Crystal Palace match thread

I only watched the first half and that was woeful.
The rest appears to have been much of the same and I gather that Lacroix is now injured as well.
There is nothing good going on at the moment and I believe that the Manager is the problem.

"As away goals have been abolished in European competition, a goalless draw will not be enough for Palace to qualify for the round of 16 to face either Mainz or a rematch with AEK Larnaca." - The final line from the match report in The Standard 🤣

Palace are just reverting to the mean. We've played some real dross under other managers too...
Everyone has become expectant after finally winning something, but stark reality has a way of making itself known. Occasionally a really good player or two will pass through, and with a bit of luck and proper guidance a team can be formed that may challenge for something. Such was the fate bestowed upon Oliver Glasner, and credit to him, he did guide what was the best Palace team seen in a good while to silverware. Now that the best players from that group have left, and we see the true nature of what is left, so it is pick yourself up and start again time.

Watched the game in a bar - the screen next to our game was showing the Forest match and what a difference, they played with intensity, flair and pushed forward looking for goals - I cannot see them staying below us in the table if they continue like this.
Far removed from what we have become.I very much expect Nottm Forest to finish above us in the table.
We really are in the 'Merde' with no green shoots of recovery visible.

Have you ever seen us play as badly, uncoordinated and solemn 🙁

The ref helped us last night by having the courage of his convictions. Maybe cynical but can anyone see that penalty claim not being successful at anywhere called The Emirates or Anfield?

I have been a fervent supporter since the 60s and have witnessed some abhorrent performances in front of sparse crowds.
That was then in the mists of time - at present our performances and results provide us for NO grounds for optimism in relation to our survival in the PL.
The once well-oiled machine has suffered a major spillage.

There is an argument to sack the manager if we fail to win the next two games, but one has to remember that since our crowning glory of winning two trophies, we have lost Eze and Guehi and had Mateta injured or unavailable for a long period. On top of that, Munoz has been injured and not returned to top form since his return. Lacroix is now injured.
We signed very poor players in the Summer. Uche and Sosa have not impressed, Pino very average, and signing Johnson in January seems to confirm that our recruitment policy is more desperate than calculated.
It seems crazy that we let Guehi go for the £20m only to waste £30m on a player who has shown nothing. Add that to the £30m for Nketiah, £20m for Franca and £20m Esse and it's clear to see why we have fallen so quickly.

We can't blame the manager for the hand he has been dealt.

That's fair enough but he must bear responsibility for not even trying to tweak his tactics even when we currently have players unsuited to them.

I think every manager does stuff that seems unfathomable to fans. My concern is more about motivation.

His biggest mistake was announcing that he was leaving. That should have waited until we were safe at least.

I presume that Glasner had a say in the transfer dealings and if so he takes the blame for some real dross - on the face of it anyway as they might come good in time - that we have purchased.
Guehi and Eze were always going and so I discount them.
Dougie leaving is the key to previous good work to the current desperation buys.
I still think that Esse will come good but the rest can leave as far as I am concerned.

Do you believe that the players had no idea that he was leaving long before the official announcement in January ?
Good question. I don't know.

I understand but that ship has sailed unfortunately. Whether Glasner has been dealt a bad hand (I’d argue being given two record signings int he front line isn’t bad), who is to blame and so on is now secondary. We need results urgently or we will be at high risk of relegation. So really the only question now is will we stand a better change of getting those results with or without Glasner. I think it’s now clear to absolutely everyone we would be better with somebody new.

Freedman did sign Nketiah and Franca. The input of the manager on signings is unknown. Obviously Kamada would have been his choice, but the others maybe not so much. You have to buy what is available and affordable, but if you say that you win some and lose some with transfers, we have definitely lost a lot lately.
