Wolves vs. Crystal Palace match thread

This thread is a perfect example of higher standards creating higher expectations.

This was always likely to be a tricky game, with Wolves being right up for it. We rode our luck a bit and won.

We have lost some real quality from this club and we still keep churning out results. Irreplaceable players like Eze and Olise, not to mention Doucoure and we are 4th.

Mateta will go in and out of form, but he needs back up. We keep creating chances, which is the main thing.
Great post, its just a few keyboard fans whose opinion is garbage anyway.

I don't recall us ever being 4th with Eze, Olise and Doucoure playing regularly for us. It's a team game, that is our strength, everyone knows their role in the team. Players will have off days, where their performance isn't up to their usual standard, but I doubt other teams like playing against us, as the teamspirit is so high.
I think its 3 defeats out of 20 games so far this season. That is just incredible. Some folk need to have a word with themselves if that isnt good enough for them!

I like this post because it is balanced and appreciates the nuance.

Like the idea of a poll but I don’t think you have to choose 1 or the other entirely. Horses for courses and all that, and in the games leading up to the international break the answer to the question Kamada vs Hughes seems to have been… Lerma, which I certainly wasn’t calling for at the time.
Good point - Lerma can be in the poll too!

Moaning seems to become more prevalent as you become more successful. A symptom of higher expectation.

If you have been a Palace fan for 50+ years like myself, then you should have a better perspective, but it's an emotional sport. I used to shout at ceefax if I wasn't at an away game.

Still do shout at the scores Hrolf. Sky Sports anyway. Not as much these days but it still happens.

If you go to this website it gives this seasons player stats, https://fbref.com/en/comps/9/stats/Premier-League-Stats
It basically says Kamada runs about more, Hughes is better at tackling, and Lerma is in the middle, the most disappointing thing is between all four, Wharton as well, is no goals.

Whatever the merits or de-merits of our performance the fact remains we should have slaughtered a doomed, winless Wolves.

A better guide to our progress will be at Strasbourg and home to a revitalised United on Sunday.

Win them both and I will start to believe we can go better than last season and can adapt to the loss of Eze's goals. One things is for sure, we need more goals from our midfield to compensate for his departure.

An intriguing 7 days await.
A far better guide to our success this season is 5-5-2 in the league so far and only lost 3 games in 20. No game is a guaranteed win Wolves or anyone else. We had to work hard yesterday but our strengths showed and we deserved the win. Another 3 points. Enjoy and appreciate it!

Guehi and Wharton Munoz absolute mustard today. As someone else has said, Mateta and Sarr out of form at the moment which is a worry given they’re our two most likely to score.

Not even being my usual anti Kamada self when I say he was absolutely trash today. Like the Kamada of old. Losing possession. Misplaced passes. Face like a box of frogs all game. With Hughes on the bench I’m seriously starting to wonder if he has dodgy photos of Glasner.
Sorry Palace were not good enough for you yesterday. There are only 3 teams better than us though, have you noticed? Which one are you going to choose? Please shut the door quietly on your way out. You are a fan who is not just off form you smell bad too!

What's the latest on Doucoure Hrolf, is it time's up? I hope to god not.

Thanks, obviously take any stats with a pinch of salt but agree on all counts.

In terms of progressing the ball forward - carries with the ball and runs without it Kamada and Wharton are well above Lerma and Hughes, though interesting Kamada is bottom for passing (which was part of the frustration many had with him yesterday). It probably doesn’t do justice to quite how incisive Wharton’s passes are.

No 10 fair enough, I don’t have the source of the stats so can’t break it down, but there’s a reason he is even considered there and Hughes is not. No discredit to Hughes, they are different types of players, it is like comparing Munoz and Mitchell.

Yes he is more of an AM, even when playing CM, and I can’t agree that Kamada doesn’t at least attempt more dribbles there than Hughes, even if you are critical of him and believe they often fail.

He didn’t have a great game yesterday and I wanted him subbed off on the hour, because I thought we were being overpowered physically and in the air… but instead of that (or taking off one of the other slighter players like Pino or Wharton though they were otherwise playing well) Glasner took off our big striker and brought on the less physically imposing Nketiah. We scored two in nine minutes and Kamada, Wharton and Pino were all involved in both.

So yeah, no offence intended but, I trust Glasner’s judgement over yours and mine - we’re 4th and by the time we face Arsenal we will most likely have gone a calendar year without being knocked out of a cup, while Kamada has been pretty consistently in the team for most of that.

Fair enough, but JPM gets tested on here more than DK, but DK is nowhere near as good

And you.

Thankfully Standby Palace has arrived to tell everyone the truth, and inform Becky to close down the entire board

His house must be complete silence all of the time, I am surprised he's in such a foul mood with everybody given our fabulous form. Personally I'm in a great mood about our direction.

Don't know.

It's gone a bit quiet, but his return was meant to be in the new year.
