Wilfried Zaha

No bad idea in my opinion. He was our hero back then but that was then. Agree with everything has said about he would sulk and would give off entitlement vibes and this would affect the team, who for the last few seasons seem really together. We cant afford to risk upsetting this..

Yes, he was magnificent. But the time to let him go was when the club did. Move on.

Got us promoted then kept us up single handedly for years. To call him ‘toxic’ is a bit strong imo. And how do you know the Americans were fed up with his attitude?

Complete nonsense.

We have achieved more without him compared to with him.

He did not single hand get us promoted the whole team did and he was part of it. (Glenn Murray that season scored 30 goals)

The guy is toxic as I said before look at all the clubs he has gone to and all of them wanted him gone in a small amount of time (ex Palace managers have even hinted he was very difficult)

The Americans have not signed hm so again there is the evidence and did you even see what he did over there he was getting into fights and moaning at his own players a lot.

People need to wake up and see reality when it comes to Wilf (The guy did have talent which a large % he wasted but he was always very overrated as well)

Let people remember more of the good times and leave it be we was awful towards the end spending more time sitting on the floor complaining all the time and that has not changed since he left.

Agreed.
It must, though, be galling for Wilf that:
  • having basically kept us in the PL almost single-handedly
  • having come close to winning the FA Cup in 2016
  • having turned down the club's offer to go after Champions League football in Turkey
he's missed out on the club's finest ever days at Wembley (twice) and Leipzig.

He's seen players he played with (and probably viewed as inferior) pick up the medals.

I still don't want him back because the club has moved on and I doubt Sage would want him after the Lyon incidents.

Sky says he's just using the facilities to train alone whilst he searches for a new club. No plan to re-sign him.

I love the guy and a club legend but it wouldn't make any sense. We've moved on and so has the league. Hope he finds a decent club though.

Most influential player in the last 20 years and possibly in our history and you come out with that garbage. ‘Overated’. Are you kidding? And Murray wouldn’t have scored half that many goals without Wilf. You really are ‘Grumpy’ aren’t you. Shameful.

No , why
He does not have the pace anymore
He will not last a full 90
He will deter Ty from pressing forward
He will blame others
He will spit dummy at training
He will unbalance the training & changing room

His contract didn’t get renewed in USA , why - because of the above

We already have Mateta, Strand Larsen, Nketiah, Sarr, Pino, Guessand, McNeil and Franca competing for 3 forward positions. Feel as the though the midfield, CB and LB are the areas we need to strengthen.

I was never particularly happy with how he left the club and it had been going on for years, with the transfer request the day before the season began a particular low point.

He was amazing for us but his constant tantrums were annoying and led to him being targeted more.

I don't think we need him anymore, don't think he really improves us and feel as though our success has been built on team spirit and togetherness, not strops.

I assume he is only training with us and hope it goes no further. Doubt he'd even be cheap.

The guy is a legend for our club but I agree with so many others. He is individually minded, his own biggest fan. Experienced older players need to come in, lead and be team players, wilf is not one and was rarely that.
Add to that I have not heard him praising the club since he left, supporting our success, again that is due to a selfish mindset. Dont get me wrong I loved the guy playing for us and wish him the best but a massive no

Why do we always do this with Wilf...

We obviously are not going to re-sign Wilf and I don't think he would come back if he was asked. He knows where he is at. He is more than entitled to come and use the facilities.

The negative posts he gets are beyond me... Selfish, tantrums etc.. Who cares. He was and is an absolute Legend for this club. Its hard to find a Palace player who has had a bigger impact at this club than Wilf. We would not be in the position we are in today if it were not for him, he was literally our star player for so many years. He's Palace through and through FFS...

Thank you Wilf, all the best... Always..

That fat c*** and the Austrian traitor probably want him at Forest after watching the video.
Agent Zaha your mission if you choose to accept it is to f*** Glasner's wife from Nottingham to the Austrian alps and back then lace Marinakis's lunch dinner and tea with ozempic and with luck after a week or two he'll completely disappear.
Over to you legend.

Just seen a video of Sage talking about managing Lyon. He wasn't too complimentary about Wilf so I would be surprised if he wants him now. 3.20 Mins in

I wonder if he'd be welcome at the training ground next week when the squad is back?

It is such a shame that (and for once the Hol are all on the same page) his attitude is whats holding him back.

I doubt we would have let him train if the manager wasn't okay with him being there.

The dislike for Zaha on these forums will always remain a mystery to me.

I can’t prove it, but it’s extremely unlikely that we would have been promoted without his contribution ( think of the play offs and final alone) and it’s also extremely unlikely that we would have remained in the Premier League without him.
There was an extremely long run of games when we could not win a game without him.

But leaving that aside , in my 60 years of following Palace Zaha remains the player who could get me off my seat more than any other Palace player.
I’m not suggesting he didn’t have some flaws in his game, but you know a player is special when you feel the level of anticipation in the crowd when Zaha received the ball.
He’d be pinned in by the touchline with three opposing defenders but drop a shoulder, roll his foot over the ball and then emerge clear of the defenders.
That’s my abiding memory of him, not the surly temperamental figure depicted by some on here.
Yes, he probably stayed a season too long , but should that taint his overall legacy?
And by the way, why shouldn’t the club allow him to use the training facilities in the summer.
There’s no chance of the club signing him again, and I hope he gets fixed up with a decent club if he elects to continue playing.

I’m pretty sure the reason Wilfried Zaha didn’t sign for palace or Leicester previously was due to tax rules that meant if he returned to work in England within a certain timescale he would have to pay tax on all his foreign income.

Essentially if he comes back to work in the UK everything he earned on turkey and the US would be taxable.

AI tells me this:

Essentially, can’t see Zaha playing again in England.

UK Tax Residency and Anti-Avoidance
    • The 5-Year Rule: Moving back to the UK too quickly after working abroad triggers anti-avoidance measures designed to catch individuals who temporarily shift tax jurisdictions.

Wilfried Zaha will face massive tax penalties if he returns to live and work in the UK before completing five full consecutive tax years abroad

Good post. I reckon his temperament was formed in large measure by being surrounded by very average players and being fouled all the time. The pressure on him to keep us every season must have been immense.

Delusional.

Murray scores 30 goals yet you still try to claim Wilf as the super star and by the way Murray also got 6 assists that season with Wilf having only 7 and lets not forget Bolazie he had 7 assists as well.

It's called seeing the world how it really is not through rose tinted specs.

You could say we would have gone up automatic if it wasn't for Holloway who almost cost us be promoted at all.

Disagree just look at what has been achieved as soon as he left I believe he was holding us back.

The whole stat about couldnt win without him is BS if you look at it it was the same when he played we was getting poor results so looking at it balanced way it was close to a 50/50.
